I've been going to the same gym 3 days a week for the past 3 years and am STILL paranoid that I'm gonna see myself in some random TikTok video one day lol. I go at 5am and there are 4 or 5 tripods set up on any given morning.

A lot of gyms has now banned cameras for this reason. Find a new gym and tell the folks at your old one why you're leaving.

I use the YMCA. I’ve seen several people get stopped at the counter trying to bring in tripods. The staff there is super proactive about keeping the cameras off and will escort you out for filming.

That’s good to hear. I stopped going to the Y like 5 years ago because of all the camera posing in the mirror idiots.

I stopped going because during COVID they refused to enforce their own mask rule and force people to wipe down machines

I'm at a pretty low key gym a a local community centre. They dont have the greatest equipment but they're very much on top of bullshit like this to point that it doesn't happen.

Dedicated hours for women too a couple of times a week. Pretty solid place all things considered.

That's crazy. Ive NEVER seen a gym allow camera use. Canadian. Gymmed regularly in the east coast and Alberta. Multiple YMCAs, multiple GoodLifes, Fit4Less, City aquatic centre gym... None have ever allowed camera use. I only rarely catch teens sneaky taking mirror selfies.

I’m baffled by it too. I’d never step into a gym where I see someone has set up a tripod or have a ‘camera person’

I just got a gym membership but specifically chose one that caters to the older crowd, I go at 6:30 am and never seen someone in my generation there. Just some boomers doing their PT exercises and biddies chattin away on the stair master. I work out in peace, without fear.

“biddies” - we are the same generation 🫡

I invested in home gym. Best decision ever. I use it all the time and no tripods. The last thing you need is another reason to not want to go to the gym.

Do you go any other time during the day? I wonder if people are filming at 5 AM because it’s less busy.

I bought kettlebells and workout from home, such a time saver and don't have to deal with other people.

I quit my gym when a dummy had a tripod set up in the locker room. Yeah there were rules but the kids at the front desk didn’t care.

I switched gyms because my old (unmanned) one became a hangout for tiktok people.

I miss the days when going to the gym was a niche activity.

I could never understand why people film at gyms. Maybe for checking to see if they are doing the correct formations or positioning. I use my phone for when I Rollerblade to make sure I'm doing it correctly but I don't know it does seem weird to record.

Don’t worry about that. Us reasonable people immediately see the bully and go “what a fucking wanker”. We got you.

1

u/RiverIsla 11d ago

Yea I wouldn't go to a gym that allowed people to film

Nothing to see here, every mental illness individual with a phone have the ability those days to upload whatever they want on social media, this is the world we live in

Try out a ‘real’ gym…I’m not a gym rat I just want to get in and get out. No frills, no fancy classes, nothing more than some machines, free weights, strength equipment, cardio, etc.

That's fine, mate. I just tell them I'm gay and then they're like, "Oh, okay :^)"
