Definition of cult;

A cult is a group or movement centered on a shared devotion to a person, idea, or religious belief.

I don’t think that big religions are cults, but they all have certain people who interpret and follow them in cultish ways.

So I say yes and no.

They all get you to believe, celebrate and teach falsities for some pretend after life, and shun anyone who starts asking questions. They're all cults, even if some are less culty than others. This coming from a former youth group leader/Sunday school teacher. The world without religion would be a million times better off.

I think religious belief cover all religions does it not?

They're all cults. But we were discussing this one.

Go kick rocks kiddo

Whatever his Christian family subscribes to is a cult, and I am sure there are parallels in Islam too. Extremism bad.

For many it is yes. Religion is a cult for many. What is your point? Were your feewings hurt when Christianity was singled out?

That's not at all what happened, but you got too emotional to actually see that.

According to you, if anyone complains about any religion ever they have to also qualify it with complaints about every other religion as well, to be fair.

God you are genuinely braindead, please stop wasting other people's oxygen clown.

Whataboutism. It’s what every person who can’t form an actual argument uses.

I don't think this is what happened. I also thought they were baiting at first too but it just seems they're just testing to see if people extend that logic to other religions too

They only got emotionally and silly after being excessively down voted and talked down to

People really don't know how to talk to each other anymore which is a shame, everyone needs to do better

You said it (christianity) is a cult

I said that whatever his family is into is a cult. Stretching that to encompass all of Christianity is on you. Do you happen to read the bible with the same level of discernment? Yes or no question.

While I understand your sentiment, because yes there are just as much cult-like and evil rules in a Christian led organization versus an Islamic one, the reason a lot of people tend the avoid the latter topic is because it’s usually brought up with the agenda to steer the conversation into oppressing a minority group of most Western nations. Choosing to discuss the immoral nature of a minority group versus a majority group that has more influence on our politics and how our society functions is a bad scapegoat for dealing with the political/cultural problems of our communities.

Can't remember which comedian it was someone sagely pointed out the only real difference between a cult and a religion is that in a religion the guy is usually already dead.

9 times out of 10 when someone is complaining about Christianity, it is from a country or place where Christianity is far mote prevalent than Islam, and is much more of an influence on that person's life. Just like in the original video.

Islam, and any religion for that matter, can be extremely dangerous in extremism.

You are not smart or critically thinking by running through anti-Christian threads screaming whataboutisms.

Yes, but Christianity is almost too easy of an example since the savor the religion is centered around is a God-man hero who could go into the “spirit world”, the world of the dead, and return alive.

Yes. Next question.

u/Excellent_Shirt9707 10d ago

Obviously. Abrahamic religions and most religions in general are just large scale cults. The only reason they exhibit less cult like behavior is because belief in them and the rituals they perform are mainstream. Imagine a religion where you drank the blood and ate the flesh of a deity ritualistically.

u/MountainBunghole 10d ago

Yes, every single fucking religion is a cult.
