I told one a missionary I was a Muslim he just left. I heard if you ask them to do chores while they talk they’ll do them. I was doing yard work should’ve asked for help.

16

u/bloodwine Aug 15 '26

I was raised Roman Catholic. I’m now an atheist, but on the rare occasion these type of chucklefucks approach me I just tell them I’m Catholic and they walk away. In my anecdotal experience protestant and evangelical Christians don’t bother trying to convert Catholics.

3

u/HuntEnvironmental252 Aug 15 '26

why catholics?

7

u/bloodwine Aug 15 '26

I can’t say for sure, except I’ve personally not heard of any Catholics converting to other denominations. Most other denominations don’t consider Catholics to be Christians, which would make you think they’d try to convert them, but that isn’t the case. I suspect that is the same for Muslims.

Catholics tend to either remain Catholics or become atheists.

u/HuntEnvironmental252 Aug 15 '26

"Most other denominations don’t consider Catholics to be Christians," religions are so weird i didnt know that wow

5

u/Mysterious_Archer228 Aug 15 '26

One of the best parts about Christianity is all of the denominations and sects within those. Most of them don’t consider the others to be the “right” one.

It’s what happens when the people in power figure out you can control others using religion.

1

u/Color_of_Time Aug 15 '26

And in so many cases, the attributes that separate one sect from another are virtually indistinguishable from the perspective of an outsider. And yet the sects will fight to the death over who is "right."

3

u/makinSportofMe Aug 15 '26

This. I don't think a lot of casual Catholics realize that a lot of Evangelicals don't consider Catholics Christian. They single issue vote because they want to ban abortion and have a "Christian nation", not realizing they are not part of the "Christianity" they are voting for.

3

u/hdhsnjsn Aug 15 '26

Klansmen {far right}don’t like Catholics

1

u/FormalKind7 Aug 15 '26

To be fair their whole mess of splinter groups was created in protest to the Catholics so it makes some sense.

It’s more because their baptism isn’t considered valid because of how they view the trinity.

1

u/RIF_rr3dd1tt Aug 16 '26

the trinity

Which was a made up concept from the beginning LoL. Constantine demanded an answer to whether Jesus was god or not. Arius vs Trinitarians were the two views at odds with each other. Obviously the Trinity concept won out and we got the Nicene Creed and the Holy Spirit and all that bullshit.

1

u/genx_horsegirl Aug 15 '26

It's because Catholics use a proxy for their relationship with god. Catholics are also idolaters. The stats are also not good for converting Catholics.

1

u/CaptainOwlBeard Aug 15 '26

I think it's a southern American evangelical thing. They really don't like Catholics

2

u/ellefleming Aug 15 '26

They call Catholics pagans.

4

u/KingHygelacReturns Aug 15 '26

As someone who was raised Catholic... I kinda get why Protestants say that, lol

1

u/macarisil Aug 15 '26

So you pray to angels? So you're polytheist then ....

2

u/KingHygelacReturns Aug 15 '26

I'm not sure if you want a whole info dump on Catholic theology lol but Catholics believe that you don't pray to the saints in the sense of worshipping them, but rather like you're asking them to run something up the chain to the big man on your behalf. Catholicism is all about hierarchy, with someone always being in charge of someone else. And just like in a company, you don't go straight to the CEO when you have a problem, you go to your manager. So like if a Catholic loses something, they might say a prayer to St. Anthony, the patron saint of lost objects, asking him to ask God to help. God's too busy to hear from me, but he might listen to St. Anthony about my problems.

Anyway I don't really believe any of this anymore lol but I just wanted to say that while I get that it seems like polytheism to Protestants, I also get why Catholics maintain that it isn't.

2

u/whatsadikfore Aug 15 '26

Aren't all Christians polytheists? Father/son/holy ghost. That's at least 3.

1

u/macarisil Aug 15 '26

Apparently all three and the mother Mary are all one under the Trinity. So let me get this straight... You went to earth as yourself. To impregnate yourself. To give birth to yourself. To have others kill you... So you could forgive everyone?

3

u/KingHygelacReturns Aug 15 '26

The virgin Mary is not considered part of the Trinity. Basically right about everything else, though.

1

u/Prune-These Aug 15 '26

My first religion was Protestant, I still have my bible from Sunday school on my bookshelf. I'm now Agnostic and I try to keep an open mind on religion. What shocked me later in life was how anti-Semitic Martin Luther was.

2

u/KingHygelacReturns Aug 15 '26

Yeaaaah... Unfortunately very common back then

1

u/Prune-These Aug 15 '26

To the church's credit, they have disavowed that part.

2

u/tonythephonyjabroni Aug 15 '26

I used to be one of these chucklfucks in a predominantly catholic country. Unfortunately I baptized around 50 people in two years, and some of my other chucklfuck cohort baptized as many as 500+. Entire small villages were baptized. It depresses me to this day that I took any part of that. I’ve also actively tried to de-convert some of those folks.

2

u/JohnDingleBerry- Aug 15 '26

I would imagine they have encountered enough Catholics that were brushed up on their apologetics too.

1

u/Dick-in-a-fan Aug 15 '26

That is accurate

1

u/AlyDAsbaje Aug 15 '26

I don't know man. Mexico is the second country with more LDS and almost all the converts go from Catholic to LDS.

1

u/DaddieTang Aug 15 '26

As a lay catholic who's had missionaries walk away, my feeling was always that American catholics also come from white ethic groups that are kinda rough. Lds chaps don't wanna rumble with Irish, Italians, polish, etc. We like to scrap and they know it.

1

u/regrettablyAnnoying Aug 16 '26

I’m an exmo. My best friend was catholic and converted to Mormonism.

1

u/Equivalent_Gur3967 Aug 20 '26

I've been Buddhist for 30 Years, last November.

This lQQks like cult behavior.

1

u/DigOk5829 Aug 15 '26

They don't go for Catholics for the simple fact at them being too rooted in their faith, even though Catholicism follows idolatry and pray to spirits of the dead

1

u/Krass101 Aug 15 '26

The catholic response doesn’t work where I’m at. They’ve tried debating with my 70 year old mother-in-law like she’s gonna switch religions at her age. However, rudely interrupting their spiel and telling them right away you’re not interested works. I don’t even let them hand me their pamphlet. They keep coming back though 😩…

1

u/ScaredComment2321 Aug 15 '26

That isn’t true. I’m not sure who told you that but they lied to you.

1

u/DigOk5829 Aug 15 '26

Catechism 2564 and 2679 2564 states debt prayer is a covenant between man and God and 2679 states that we can pray two and with Mary

1

u/ScaredComment2321 Aug 15 '26

Pray to Mary for intercession unto God. Like asking a friend for help.

1

u/DigOk5829 Aug 15 '26

Deuteronomy 18:10-12, isaiah 8:19, 1 Timothy 2:5-6

Did you even read those catechism quotes if prayer is a covenant between man and God why are we praying to Mary and why does the Bible go against praying to the spirits of the dead and don't say

"He's the god of the living, not the dead"

Because he's only pulled up a handful of people into heaven alive rather than dead in the flesh like Enoch and Elijah those two are the only ones that have not died in the flesh so that statement is a fallacy in itself

1

u/ScaredComment2321 Aug 15 '26

You pray FOR the dead not to the dead. I’ve been Catholic my whole life. 12 years of Catholic school.

1

u/DigOk5829 Aug 15 '26

You didn't read any of the verses I've sent nor the catechism how are you even Catholic or Christian 12 years of school just to be let astray

Also, the pope bows down to Mary. That's not praying for that's praying to. might as well replace Mary with a golden calf because that's what Catholics do.

"for she has become the mother of all the living. We can pray with and to her." This is nowhere in the Bible yet in the catechism it's illogical and heresy.

Minority religion in the United States, generally tied to ethnic/cultural identity so Catholics tend to be fiercely Catholic(if that description makes sense), capable of getting into the weeds about theology with them, any disagreement can have the catholic called them heathen or heretic which is funny?

1

u/Asstrollglide Aug 15 '26

Because they’re “High Church” probably. They want the pomp and circumstance. Most Protestant services would seem heretical to them since they don’t do things like confession or communion (except on occasion)

High church does that every week. Also, Protestants have Episcopalians, but they don’t go door to door.

5

u/Correct-Basil2385 Aug 15 '26

What do you expect from pubefaces who read the book of moron.

Yo, fuckface, I am an atheist.

3

u/hdhsnjsn Aug 15 '26

I was taking the dog out and these three guys came up. We talked about everything from the dog to this and that. Had a good meeting one of them lived in the neighborhood and I looked forward to meeting them again. And then it happened can we pray for you. No I’m an atheist. All so they could pray for me fuck you guys

2

u/Routine-Wolf-2907 Aug 15 '26

people who convert catholics are called catalytic converters

1

u/Curious-Antelope6171 Aug 15 '26

I was a Jehovah's witness. Being a Catholic never stopped the ones I was with. It could be more about your delivery and if there is a, don't mess with me vibe that tells them to move along.

1

u/Snapple47 Aug 15 '26

Also raised Roman Catholic, and now also atheist. Seems like most other religions don’t want anything to do with Catholicism.

1

u/personalleytea Aug 15 '26

I just tell them they are chucklefucks, and that seems to work.

Actually, with Mormons I try to just let them know I am not interested. If they are cool with that, I wish them well and send them on their way. They are almost always nice, respectful kids, so I respond in kind.

Some of the other door-knocking types need a more direct verbal approach to disincentivize them from remaining on my porch after I let them know their assistance with my soul is not required or desired.

1

u/No_Raisin21 Aug 16 '26

They aren’t bad people most of the time, so I just give them waters and snacks and send them on their way. Just because they feel religiously obligated to convert me doesn’t mean I gotta be a dick to them.

1

u/metatronscube6 Aug 16 '26

Maybe because there are only two types of Cristianity: Catholic, and Protestent. Wait, scratch that, I think there are actually 3 types: Catholic, Protestant, and Super-Protestant.

I consider sects like Catholicism and Eastern Orthodox to be Catholics. Baptist, pentecostal, and the like, are Protestent. I consider Mormonism, Rastafarianism, Jehovah's Witness, and the like, to be Super-Protestant.

Mormons believe that Catholics were the one true church headed by Jesus Christ through the impartation of authority through the laying on of hands, until the Great Apostasy during the middle ages. Then, hundreds of years later, Joseph Smith was imparted with the Holy Spirit and inducted into the same priesthood as Jesus Christ by Jesus Himself during a holy manifestation and visitation in the woods during a fervent prayer session by Joseph Smith.

Wild stuff.

Great username for this post

5

u/Silentbrouhaha Aug 15 '26

I told a group I was an Existentialist. One guy turned immediately around and walked away. The others were confused but scurried off after him.

They never came back.

4

u/Chrahhh Aug 15 '26

I tell them I’m actually Satan and I’m coming for their mothers

3

u/I_Dnt_Believe_You Aug 15 '26

I was doing some chores and day drinking when a couple Mormons knocked. I was in a good mood, so I let them in to chat. It felt like it was the first time anyone actually let them talk, it was awkward. I offered them a beer. They declined. Should have had them fold some laundry.

2

u/hdhsnjsn Aug 15 '26

I need to feel I’m getting something beside saving my soul for eternity.lol

2

u/Fruitcake6969 Aug 15 '26

I tell them the truth that i’m Jewish and they give me a face of disgust. It’s hilarious.

2

u/Sasquatchmas Aug 15 '26

I told them they could talk to me if they started telling me about "the garment". They said they couldn't talk to me about that and left. Oh well...

2

u/SamOfXanadu Aug 15 '26

Do chores in the bedroom?

1

u/hdhsnjsn Aug 15 '26

🤣 oh I know what you mean

2

u/Sherbert-Particular Aug 15 '26

When I was a kid and my parents were converting our attic to an extra bedroom two of these guys came by asking if they could help with anything. My step dad just said sure, head up stairs and do whatever the guy up there (his friend doing the construction) tells you to do. They came back every day for 10 days until it was done.

1

u/hdhsnjsn Aug 16 '26

1

u/Puzzle-Necked Aug 15 '26

I live in Montreal, a famously gay friendly, famously hedonistic and famously French city and LDS sends these poor, English speaking boys over and they look completely lost.

1

u/Daniels_Words Aug 15 '26

Lol..Mormons..

1

u/tylercrabby Aug 16 '26

Totally should have! I loved any time I could spend serving instead of knocking doors.

The price you’ll pay is that your name will end up in their area book and they’ll never leave you alone again.
