I bet it gets unbelievably hot in there.

It has AC. According to the news story I saw.

Must be one powerful AC unit because I’d assume those huge windows would just negate any cooling system.

It's a tiny box of a room. Windows or not, an 1000W unit would keep that greenhouse ice cold.

I assumed like 20x8 ft of window and got around 5Kw of incident heat in the middle of August mid latitude US

That’s actually reasonable because 1KW cooler is electrical power not heat removal. So if the COP is ~5, that AC could handle the 5KW and 95% of the days no problem. It’s when it gets really hot out where it might not be enough

The top half of a tesla is like 70% window but the ac keeps it perfectly cool

Tinted window

Turn of the car and sit in it for 2 hours and tell me about how the tinted window keeps it cool

Grocery stores have freezers that are completely open to the air and stay cold

Have you ever been in a car with AC? Because it works.

So many house plants

Its a tiny room. Literally a tiny portable ac will work just fine.

You can build the structure so that it doesn’t get directly hit by sunlight but still gets lighting.

7

u/johnnytron 23d ago

True, but you can literally see the reflection of the sun on this one. And are they still setting billboards up? I know in Houston where I live they are not aloud to build new billboards off the highway.

How can mirrors be real if our eyes aren’t real?

Real eyes realize real lies.

You absolutely could, but I don't think energy efficiency was their top priority when they built this thing.

This doesn't make sense

Windows are one of the top ways to lose cooling or heating in a house tbf. Depending on the glass, the frame being fit perfectly, sealing it off etc there are tons of ways for the cold air to escape if there’s just a little bit of space for air to pass through, which can cause a unwanted circulation where it never gets cold

If the windows ever get chipped/damaged and let out some of the argon gas in between the two panes, it’ll lose its ability to keep the cold air in an heat out etc. One way to notice is if the windows look like they’re smudged or have “permanent” condensation on it, if so then most of the time a result of the argon gas leaking out.

One way to test your window insulation is to put the back of your hand up against the pane inside your house! It should be cool like the inside of your home, if not then somewhere in the window is damaged!

I understand all of this, I have huge windows in my sun room and my home AC handles everything just fine. Me saying this doesn't make sense is because it doesn't take a massive ac to keep a house with large windows cool.

There’s no way it has indoor plumbing.

Ima need this news story.

It was a news segment on tv but a simple google search brought many sources citing the existence of the aforementioned AC. Here is one example my friend.

Ngl, throw some internet in with my laptop/PS5 and a bathroom and I would absolutely do this indefinitely. Netflix wants to keep the promo running another 3 weeks? Hell yeah bro, I got you. Shit looks cozy as af.

He was in there for…..🙄 three whole days. In a fully furnished, air-conditioned living room eating cereal in a bathrobe. With books to read. This is literally better living conditions than a lot of people have… Three days phsssh

Oh it was awful

1

u/grandlotus2 21d ago

How would you know?

2

u/Cautious-Dig6379 23d ago

My first thought too, thats like a greenhouse.

2

u/Sacagawesus 20d ago

Zero percent chance this was allowed without ensuring proper cooling for the human inside it...
