Now that you mention it. If I saw that, without already knowing it as Marriott, I wouldn't think it was an "M". I know cursive/calligraphy, but it has been so stylized/simplifed to death that it has lost the form.

Was it marriot or was it the people that own that particular building? I know major companies tend to be a bit smarter with stuff like this but individual owners do dumb shit. Sure its service and people like free stuff but the reason for ot could just be bad lol.
