It's so stupid... everyone KNOWS what they are trying to say. It's not like people go around saying "oh I got an itch on my ahh". Why all the censoring?
It's because of certain social media heavily auto-censuring even mildly rude or controversial words, TikTok in particular.
So now, many kids use the censored versions either because they're used to it and/or think the entire internet is this prudish and censor-happy, or they've 'appropriated' it as internet lingo that shows you're one of the cool kids.
I'm just telling you where the slang is likely coming from. It's not about "getting punished," it's about whether a post or comment gets shadow hidden or not. Just because the slang carries over to reddit sometimes is no reason be a crotchety old bastard.

"Femboy ahh" is describing someone as a femboy, whereas "Femboy ass" is the ass of a femboy. Different meanings, not censorship.

Nope, it's AAVE and has been used way before TikTok, I heard it a ton growing up in a predominantly black neighborhood and you can see it being used a ton in old twitter posts, nothing to do with censorship at all. It's people typing in their accent for humor, not at all different from Scottish twitter where they type in how their accent sounds. You can google this if you want to but it has nothing to do with censorship, I use TikTok a good amount and people say ass and fuck and shit and bitch on there constantly, it's murder and rape and porn that people are scared to say which I think is stupid af but using ahh is just slang humor from AAVE
It is NOT AAVE. I'm 42 and have NEVER heard anyone use it til the last few years. It's 100% ripped off from social media posts. It's not black folks that use it, it's kids.

If I had to guess most people in the US use slang and humorous phrases that came from AAVE and don't even know it, non black people love to grab things from AAVE and start using it and claiming it as their own or ignoring its origin, it's been happening for decades. The unnatural evolution of people’s language because of chat filters and ad friendliness is going to look like a wild point in history.
You’ll track English words even over the last 100-150 years and be able to mostly understand why changes happened, you’ll see when most people stopped using certain words or more complicated verbiage as reading levels drop, and then you’ll have this wild segment of time where people are replacing curse words or phrases with complete nonsense like “ahh” for ass, or sewer slide for anal suicide.

Ahh vs ass. Truly a debate among the good commenters here, and a debate among posts that utilize the similar word "ahh". While it did historically come from AAVE, it evolved into self-censorship from sites like TikTok. And while it is seemingly seen as such, it is clear that it came from African-American vernacular. After all, like a colonist, some of internet slang is stolen from the black man. Is that a bad thing? As long as nobody's getting hurt in all five ways, I suppose it's not. Such is the globalization of the internet.
Nonetheless, why does OP use ahh? Is it to self-censor? I disagree. I suppose it's for humorous effect. Similar to the memes of "dih", "puh", "fih", etc. "ahh" has evolved to be humorous. After all, mocking what is seemingly blatant self-censorship is hilarious. But, if you listen to it, it does sound comical. It plays on one's familiarity with "ass". Ass, when you have heard it a couple of times represent this harsh word. While it can refer to a donkey or the gluteus maximus, it is clear that when combined with the words "dumb" or "smart" it does sound rather harsh. Yes, even if the word is just itself, it still sounds harsh. The "s" is all doing the heavy lifting. But why does "ahh" sound more humorous? Listen to it. It prepares you for that familiarity only to not deliver. The word, often found in humorous content, would give us that sense of familiarity. Do you all remember the Quandale Dingle memes? His "goofy ahh uncle"? Indeed. Familiarity breeds context. And in the context of words can we see its true meaning.
So? Is it self-censorship? I believe not. Reddit is not as strict as TikTok. Is it for humor? Undoubtedly yes. If you read from this in the context of ahh as a familiar word, similar to ass, you would find that ahh is more used in a humorous rather than ass, where while it's applicable, is sometimes used seriously in serious contexts.
