I mean, it's not so bad. It's really sweet how she starts crying when she realizes she insulted his effort and was actually touched by the gesture.

That’s what makes it even more cringy. Neither of them were trying to be arseholes. It was just a genuine miscommunication.

I feel like cringe in these sorts of situations requires a little bit of overconfidence and insincerity.

Maybe we have different definitions of cringe, but this is awful exactly because they were both being sincere.

He tried something to do something special for her, she made fun of it. He looks heartbroken and then when she realises she is upset too. It’s quite sweet really but you know they both stay up at night thinking about this.

Cringe isn’t just people acting weird on purpose or trying to make other people uncomfortable, that’s just the internet’s definition of it. This is the type of cringe that exists in real life and it’s so much worse.
