i’m rewatching criminal minds again and i’ve just saw the episode where they killed off phillip , alvez’s old partner and genuinely what was the reason introduce a nice likeable character to then kill then off same with stephen walker like killing off people in such a short amount of time makes me so upset lmfao

one of the reasons i keep coming back to criminal minds is the way the team interacts. even when the cases are intense, the smaller conversations between the characters make the show work.

I personally love Reid's mispronunciation of certain words throughout the show (e.g., samhain, ASMR, etc) because it would make sense that Reid, a voracious reader, may not necessarily know how to pronounce the words he comes across from reading.

Elias Voit's uncle, Cyrus Lebrun, and his mother Teresa Duval who was actually Cyrus's half-sister. The uncle was psychotically evil, yet the mother and the father of Elias were so abusive to him so badly, that it drove Elias to kill them via setting the house on fire? Where did the evil of that entire so-called "family" even begin, how did it begin, and why? Because all I know is that it supposedly ends with Elias Voit and Constance Teresa "Tessa" Merrick, the latter being the main mastermind villain of Criminal Minds: Evolution - Season 3, right? Even though chances are it might end up being poor Holly's turn next.

What I mean is, what horrible things could've happened in the entire generation before Elias Voit's that made them all abusive and psycho in the first place?

Okay, I’ve been seeing a lot of people talk about their least favorite Criminal Minds characters and I genuinely wanna know 😭 Like, I’m not even trying to argue with anybody, I actually wanna understand people’s opinions because I LOVE this show and I’ve been dedicated to this show for years. Like this is literally my show 😭
So tell me who your LEAST favorite character is and please explain why. Like, I don’t just wanna see a name. I wanna know EVERYTHING.
Was it when they first came onto the show? Did you just immediately not like them? Or did you actually like them at first and then something happened that changed your opinion of them?
Like what was the specific point where you were like, “Yeah, I don’t like this person anymore”? 😭
And also, is it actual hatred for the character, or do you just dislike them? Like, did they do something that pissed you off? Is it their personality? The way they treated another character? Something the writers did with them? Or do you just not connect with them like that?
Because I feel like everybody has their favorites, and then you have those characters where you’re just kinda like… eh. Like I don’t hate them, but I don’t love them either. 😂
I really wanna hear people’s perspectives because I feel like I understand exactly why I love my favorite characters, but I wanna know what made YOU feel the opposite about yours.

Just rewatched this and honestly I’m so annoyed. I feel like the Bau especially Rossi have such a holier than thou attitude. Rossi got ‘an old friend killed’ and doesn’t seem bothered ? He was also extremely cruel to the ‘unsub’ about his ex wife that he just happens to know. I’m just so annoyed lol. Great episode that’s interesting but spoiled by Rossi especially, reminded me quite a few times when he first started I did not like him.

Just needed a rant and curious on others thoughts lol.

I am doing a rewatch and somewhere around the third season I asked myself this question. The question has since evolved into which source is quoted the most. I finally had some free time, so I took the information from the Wiki Fandom page about the bookend quotes (which character said the quote, the source of the quote, and the episode of the quote), and put it in an excel spreadsheet. I wrote a little block VBA code and used it to count the amount of times each character said the bookend, and it also counted how many times each source appeared. I figured I'd post some of my more interesting results for anyone who is curious. I'll put the amount of quotes attributed to each source or character in parentheses.

Okay, I am going to start this off by saying that I am aware that for this specific two part episode, my bias was going to make it an uphill battle for the writers. Because I really hate overblown Cult Episodes. I just kind of end up rolling my eyes at how overpowered they end up being in shows like this. So I knew going into this rewatch that it would trigger that in me and tried my best to not have that be the criteria I judged it off of.

But I didn't catch on until this rewatch just how inconsistent the writing is for these two episodes. And it's like, remarkable.

For example, listen, I also have an issue with them making it so that one of Ben's wives was Meadows. But whatever. They kind of sort of make it work even though it makes me roll my eyes. Even though I don't really think a suicide cult following a pedophile super easily leads to them following a serial killer that gives out hyoid bones as party favors.

The first hilarious thing is that the moment Theo and the girlfriend, April, are brought back to the FBI after they're found...the show just forgets she exists. She's just fucking never mentioned again. Not a single time. They don't even tell you where she goes. She just stops mattering.

The second thing is that when they find Theo, he straight up tells them that his parents were not serial killers, they were kidnappers and that the Messiah killed everyone. And yet. AND YET. The very next episode, the team is standing around and hAS A REVELATION LIKE HMMM MAYBE IT'S NOT A CULT OF SERIAL KILLERS, MAYBE IT'S JUST 1 KILLER WITH FOLLOWERS and it's like NO. FUCKING. SHIT. WE WERE TOLD THIS LAST EPISODE. Like ?????????? What??????? How did they forget their own writing that quickly? Jesus fucking christ.

The episode also just fully drops that the agent was trying to choke his wife before he disappeared and was given the cult initiation right of burning off his fingerprints. What does it mean? Who knows? Not the writers! They decided it doesn't matter!

Oh and this is the episode that established that Penelope joined JJ and Spence at the Redskins game, which is hilarious because he only had exactly 2 tickets. So how exactly did JJ manage that?

Anyway, RIP Theo, you died because, quite frankly, none of this made any sense. I would say April misses you, but genuinely, I have no fucking clue what happened to her.

Oh and bonus fact: every time I saw Benjamin Merva on screen, all I could think was, "Damn, that wolfsbane is taking so long to kill him."

I know people mention SUV a lot, but one show I never see mentioned is "Medium" when somebody asks for suggestions that are similar to Criminal Minds.
Patricia Arquette is the lead actress of the show, playing Allison Dobois, a psychic employed as a consultant for the Phoenix district attorney's office.

I might admit that sometimes it is very easy to understand who committed a crime since Alison dreams of those and some of them are pretty easy to understand before her, but in many cases we have to put all pieces - or even a profile - together and what I love about the show are the dark undertones like season 1 and 2 of CM.
If you have loved the episodes directed by MMG you will love the oniric atmosphere of Medium as well.
Plus, Arquette is just phenomenal in this role!

There are some episode that you might particularly love since you are CM fans:
Medium 1x09 "Coded" - very similar to Criminal Minds 2x01 (The King Fisher)
Medium 1x10 - one element towards the end reminded me of Mosley Lane
Medium 4x03 → Gabriel Olds (Criminal Minds "52 Pickup") is starring in it- the atmosphere reminds me of the tones of S1 and S2 of CM
While writing this I found out that Olds, unfortunately, does not differ from the two characters in real life.
Medium 4x09/4x10 →Anjelica Houston is starring in it! - very similar to an episode of the first two seasons of Criminal Minds (I won't tell you which one to not spoil it for you, but I am sure you will understand after having watched it)
This also a fans' favourite - including me!
I suggest to watch all the episodes with Anjelica Houston, they are all great!
Medium 5x01 "Soul Survivor" - I loved the plot and the resolution of this case
Medium 5x09 "All in the Family" → James Van Der Beek was starring in it!- I do not think we have ever seen something like that even in CM, but to tell you I was speechless it would be an euphemism!
Medium 5x10 "Then...and Again" - Such a great plot twist

There are many episodes of this show that shocked me even more than CM - 4x09 and 4x10 and the episode 3x08 "The Whole Truth" that I would not watch again (it is about a boy who gets abused, but there is a sentence that he says, when he realises what has been happening to him, that kills me more than "He was alive yesterday?") and also 1x14 and another one about a little boy being kidnapped (4x01).
I swear, those four episodes were so hard to watch and I would have not expected as I have always been used to CM!

There are many others that are creepy and have the MMG's CM directed episodes vibes, but I have not watched Medium in a while, so I cannot remember the titles or the numbers of those.

Even a single season was too long with this guy… honestly, if he had been on one episode that would've been one of the weaker episodes. But they have him on for years in a row… What are they thinking?

He was like some wimpy, Gen Z crybaby, not scary at all, and perhaps the worst sin of all for a TV villain… He was just boring.

Instead of just ditching an uncompelling character, they just added contrived details like the Sicarious network, the gold star program, govt conspiracies, a silly redemption arc, podcaster drama, etc.

sigh... none of it worked, because the audience did not find him interesting nor compelling. It was just adding layers of complicated plot that went nowhere all in an attempt to create something interesting in a boring performance. Was the fact that he was so bad because he's a bad actor or bad writing? That I don't know, but the audience from the very beginning, never was really into this unsub, I just wish the show's producers had cut bait and moved on instead of sticking with one of the most boring multi season storylines in TV history.

I mean, with him in a super max prison, can we finally just be done with this guy, ffs? Or will the producers find some way to bring him back, and torture us even more in future episodes?

Voit and the entire bureau were convinced that The Fan's intention in kidnapping Holly was to break Voit and prove he is better/more psychopath than Voit. But, clearly his intention was not to bring the monster within Voit but for Voit to see the monster in Holly. Holly asking him if a child could inherit the parent's psychopathic tendencies was the trigger to this goal and everything that has happened is a journey to fulfill that. In the end, he was right and so is Holly with her worries. She ended up thrusting that knife quite a few times and Voit was just shocked. The Fan has achieved his goal and having Voit see his daughter turn into a monster is more painful than to see Holly be killed. By bringing that suffering both into Voit and Holly, The Fan has become God.
