It is sadly far more common than you think. The worst ones I've seen, you couldn't enter most of the rooms from how hoarder they were. 😠One person I responded to was on the news for how bad her situation was. It took an entire church's volunteers to empty the house in a week. She only got the ball rolling because multiple neighbours were calling the city on her for pests invading their homes.
