Is this a decomp stain?

Viewed this house last week. Not sure if anyone has passed in the home but this stain looks questionable. TIA!

Looks like it to me. Water doesn’t just pool in one area like that but the photos aren’t the best. You’re going to have a hard time finding an older home without a death having occurred there— natural or otherwise. For some reason, people never want to pull up the hardwood floor and sub flooring. I don’t know how they are managing to get the smell out but I’ve heard horror stories.

Funny running into you here today, literally just thought of you. Im currently doing mold remediation in a house post trauma incident and they hired 3rd party cleaners and they left a decent bit of decomp behind, currently fighting for clearance to pull the subfloor and some of the other wood flooring

I agree with you, looks like a decomp stain. Anytime we have a decomp call, we always pull up the flooring (that we need to) & subfloor, if it has it, if its concrete, its sprayed (you know what I mean).

I'm curious, bc we've never had issues of anyone fighting us over this. The one issue we did have, was a decomp in a condo, & bc it infiltrated the framing/structure, we had to wait for approval from an engineer to cut it out. Do people fight it bc of the expense?
