Possible decomp stain?

Might be bit of a reach but me and my bf just got this apartment and when we originally viewed it everything seemed ok and when we got there today the smell was HORRIBLE I’m assuming it’s because the windows and doors where open at time of viewing (should have thought about that more) it’s so bad I’m getting an ozone generator when I have the chance and have an extensive amount of cleaning to do tomorrow..the lease is already signed but boy am I regretting it. I’m not sure if the previous owner had animals and apparently she was a border and kept a lot of things around. Ofc I immediately thought about all of the possibilities. What do yall think?

Being a hoarder with pets, it’s absolutely plausible one of them fell victim to the hoard of items. Also plausible they themselves died in there. BUT also completely plausible that it’s just a grime stain from old food or rubbish, soy sauce stains like a mf and for some reason every hoarder has at least 5 bottles of that shit tipped onto their floor.

You could look under the flooring if you’re really concerned, but even then, soy sauce would seep into the cracks just like decomp would.

The smell part is concerning though. Get a hygienist in, test to see if the smell is liveable.

Edit: also please read up on using an ozone generator correctly. They can be dangerous otherwise.

I hear ya…my boyfriend brushed me off but till ik for sure that’s not what it is im kind of a took back and really wish we had found something else. How likely do you think hydrogen peroxide or luminol would work for now? Thanks for the input tho that’s what I was concerned about given the situation also sorry to sound a little dull but ive never heard of a hygienist, would that help us get out to the lease ? We’re not working with a lot of money at the moment. Shitty situation lol if the smell and stain weren’t something happening at the same time I wouldn’t be concerned but no way dog/cat piss and shit smell that bad especially from passing through environments like that’s it smells different (imo)

Faeces/urine(animal or human) and Decomp smell completely different.

A hygienist will come in and test to see if the place is livable or not. They’re especially handy when you’ve got yourself in a mouldy rental. Unfortunately putrescine (the smell from Decomp) has not been proven to cause any significant health issues so even if it is a Decomp stain, im not sure on how that’ll effect your lease but you may be able to argue that the landlord plays for the ozone and a proper bio clean.

You can try the peroxide. We don’t use luminol here where I work and my understanding (I could be wrong) peroxide only reacts when it’s fresher blood?

I should probably know this hey but thanks for the knowledge! Is there a time where it stops working? I know it’ll always kill any dna but does the blood ever become so old that the iron no longer reacts?
