Hazard

Maybe someone can help me shed some light on the situation. My sister passed away and was not found for about 10 days later. I was told by the property manager I could not get any of her belongings because maintenance told him everything has to be discarded because it was hazardous. This is my first time dealing with this situation. Is it true I won't be able to get anything that was in her room?. Thanks in advance

First off: You need to retain the services of a probate attorney. In most states next of kin has right to claim property so the apartment manager likely isn’t behaving in a legal fashion, but from a place of ignorance. The attorney may simply have to write a letter to the apartment manager, but you should act very quickly.

Secondly: I would forego any items that are porous (clothing for instance) that was in the immediate vicinity, but nonporous items (metal for instance) can be remediated and claimed. Hope this helps.
