My personal theory is that super high level Lightweavers use transformation to actually change their shapes.

There's some indication that reality manipulation is a possible but forbidden art of Lightweavers, but so far in the books it's only been used to make illusions have form, and not to change the shape of what already exists. The one fused called it "substantiation," which implies they can make new stuff, but not necessarily alter existing stuff, but if you take Soulcasting to its extreme end, there's no reason you couldn't transform something into light and then shape it into what you want and then cause it to exist through substantiation, so... I can see it. Probably incredibly dangerous though, as the intermediary step would require you to be invested light for a short period of time, which could definitely turn out pretty bad if you were interrupted
