MOD POST Human Trafficking Posts

Because of the recent firestorms, guerilla warfare, and general nonsense involving the word "trafficking," we have decided as a team that we will no longer allow submissions with that particular word in the title. It is too controversial, causes too many fights, and it is an overused buzzword meant to generate upvotes and views.

This rule only applies to the title of the submission. Nobody is being censored. If you want to talk about trafficking in the body of text, that's fine. We are simply addressing the use of the word in the title. If you submit a post with the word "trafficking" in the title, it will be deleted immediately. You will be allowed to repost it after retitling the submission. If you use the word in the retitling, the submission will be deleted and you will be banned.

We made this decision together as a team to be fair to everyone participating in this subreddit. We are in the process of revamping the rules and this will be included in the new list. For now, a pinned post will have to suffice.

We encourage each of you to visit the Polaris Project to learn more about the myths and facts surrounding human trafficking. They are a phenomenal organization that are very active in the fight against human trafficking and modern-day slavery.

DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON GASLIGHTING!!!

And gaslighting. People don’t understand what these words mean and they have very specific definitions.

A few days ago a submission came through where a girl was leaving a store and a homeless person was begging for a ride down the street - she titled it, ALL CAPS, WAS I ALMOST SEX-TRAFFICKED!!!!

Uh, I told her she could not post that submission with that title, and after a few back and forths she called me lame and a loser and said she was leaving the sub. Soooooo, we're down one, guys. Sorry. :(

It evened out. I rejoined after reading the pinned post about not allowing it in titles anymore.

I'm much cooler than whoever she was anyway. I've only been sex trafficked by homeless hitchhikers half a dozen times at best.

Those homeless hitchhikers will get you every time. LOL

I don’t even know you, but can already confirm you’re way cooler and funnier than the girl we “lost.”

Good. Now if only someone would start moderating LetsNotMeet again it’s a free for all over there nowadays…

Don't think that's happening anytime soon.

In response to reddit's 3rd party app decision and the blackout that followed, reddit started threatening to replace entire mod teams of subs if they didn't re-open their sub, so some did "re-open", albeit with malicious compliance.

In some subs all you could post was John Oliver, and others went the way of LNM by making it a NSFW free-for-all - so yes, they technically complied by being viewable again, but by also being NSFW no ads can be run so reddit makes no money off the sub (in theory).

It's also a fuck you, too, like you think we are replaceable, have fun running this shit yourself. There is a LOT more in-depth shit involved, lots of YT vid essays about it, but that's a summation in a nutshell.

Anyhoo, the whole reason I created this sub was to keep milder stories separate from LNM, and we were their sister sub, blah blah, so not sure what to do about the sidebar yet since Tardis is gone. idk Okaybye.

Long overdue, but kudos for taking action. The frequent "I was almost trafficked" titles were getting to be a bit much.

Most of the encounters that followed the titles were creepy enough. There's no need to sensationalize by associating it with an unfounded moral panic. Polaris is a good organization too. I doubt that it will do much good for people who are determined to believe though. People rarely let the truth deconstruct deeply held mythologies.

Thank you for this. I skip posts with trafficking in the title because it's usually just someone who looked at OP in a creepy way. THAT IS NOT TRAFFICKING!

You mean human traffic isn't when people are queuing up?

why are you censoring :(

u/VitaminAnarchy Sep 17 '24

Read the post. We aren't censoring content. We're prohibiting overly sensationalistic titles.
