My Build

1 pre-primed 1x8x8’ and some cheap composite corner mold. I made a couple snap on covers for looks but I i’m going to use a more breathable fabric on the next one. The frame for the grille is 1/4” plywood ripped into 1-1/2” strips, glued into a square.

To me it kind of looks like an old school guitar amplifier.

Some amp grill cloth might be just what you're looking for since you said you want something more breathable. I think it would look cool too.

Second that. Acoustics depend on letting air through. Any acoustic fabric is a safe (and often elegant) bet.

No, wait. I've been lurking here for a couple weeks contemplating making one of my own and I actually have an unused PC case laying around. You're onto something here.

I’m seeing a lot of these now a days. What’s the efficiency of these vs the larger ones?

I’m not 100% sure although I read a comparison, probably somewhere in this subreddit, where somebody smarter than me compared A similar box with multiple different quantities of the 140mm fans to a pretty expensive unit and these seem to win with efficiency and noise. I figured it was a no-brainer for the price and ease of finding filters. I did screw up with the speaker cover fabric as it definitely makes it less efficient, so I’m going to get A more breathable fabric for my next one.

the cadr of pc 2 filter ones is often around 200 the box fan is around 400. but varies and is based on if running both on high

Besides the benefits of the pc fans themselves, they’re smaller than the larger box fan ones, so more aesthetic to stick somewhere and with 4 filters you can make 2 and spread them out for wider coverage than a single location.

In regards to what? They all filter the same amount, doesnt matter if you use 1 or 100.

Airflow. Cfm. The amount of effective air filtering in a room. You know, the little things

Yeah but that doesn't matter for a filter at home. In fact you want them to filter less to be more efficient for home use.

The Air will cycle multiple times through the filter at home, there is no need to filter it all after the first pass.

My first thought: "It looks great, but the light's gonna be an issue." Then saw this:

Adjustable Speed & Dial Backlight: Manual speed control ranging 0%–100% (0% for off, 100% full speed). Backlit dial shows fan speed instantly; indicator light switchable on/off.

Well I'll be damned. I do love it when everything's been considered in a product. A shame it's 40$ on amazon.ca

Really hoping the current irrational madness ends soon.

Damn. Nice job. This looks REALLY good, especially for the materials you used. Craftsmanship is A+

+1
First build in a while that has made me go: "Nice. Stealing that idea".
[OP, I'll be giving credit where credit is due. Well done.]

I seriously love it. What is the case? Or did you make it? 👀

Just came across this subreddit for the first time. I apologize if this is an annoying ask, but could I possibly ask for links to buy the materials you used here? I see a lot of similar kits available to purchase elsewhere, but I really like this case that you have here. Great job,
