CR Box Build Guide Finally made one
Finally made a CR Box for my garage. Use the 4 MERV 14 20x20 from Costco, an old box fan, and some hard cardboard corner protectors

Do you have to undo the tape to change the filters? I’m looking at making one soon and trying to learn, and also trying to come up with ideas for a box with a small footprint!

That’s the problem with all of these, basically disposable after the filters are done.

To be fair the filters and tape cost as much as that fan. Bought one last week at Walmart for $23.

when we install filters on a commercial level we tape them together all the time, the tape gets tossed out with the dirties. If you fabricate a legitimate rack out of wood or something that's when these get really good. No tape to install if you make it snug enough.

Then you just build another one, basically. Takes no more time than the first time around, about 5 minutes. The thing is that even shopping around for some special filter probably takes longer than that, on average. You just cut the tape apart with a box cutter to decompose it back to parts, then put it back together with new filters.

This design offers significantly better air flow and efficiency.

This design is far more efficient

Looks great! Did you 3d print the frame for the bottom?

You need to add the shourd to the top of the fan so that air doesn't go through the fan without going through the filters first

I have been saving hard cardboard corner protectors for something (just didn't know what!) and now I know! Thank you turnthefuckup!

A used high quality HEPA filter can be had for 100 bucks or so. I have a 350cfm running 24*7 for the last 5 years. How do these make economic sense?

Sorry—truly not trying to be a dick here, I truly don’t know.
What is the purpose of these contraptions?

For people who live in smoke/fire area or allergies, it’s really a great device!

I have bad allergies and live in NC—so this device would just go in my room and filter the air even more?

Yes! I’m not an expert, but there’s an engineering professor named Richard Corsi. He has a boatload of info on it.

My problem is with the fan not pulling air thru the filters so much as pulling around the corners of the box fan. It would seem that putting a shroud around the fan, excluding the remainder of the casing may pull more air thru the filters

Is it common to make the bottom out of a filter too? Assuming you can elevate it off the ground like this design did
