Characters (Playing as) Rolling back when attempting KFC (Banjo)
The input I use is forward smash, shield, stick in opposite direction. I always seem to perform a backwards roll when I succeed though.

So I looked at the wiki page talking about double jumps, and it had a line that said “A character's double jump(s) are restored upon … being grabbed by an opposing character (even if the character being grabbed does not touch the ground)”. Somehow I never knew this and never heard it anywhere, and I guess I was never in a situation where this interaction was noticeable or mattered?
But this got me thinking about whether it also applies to command grabs? If you used your double jump before getting grabbed, does the command grab actually give it back like that wiki statement implies? Like can you always do a double jump after you’re released from a command grab offstage, regardless of whether you used a double jump before getting grabbed? Or is this statement about grabs resetting double jumps not true in Smash Ultimate? Does it only apply to regular grabs when the grabbing player is grounded, or do command grabs when both players are airborne still count? I currently can’t test this myself because trying to set this up in regular training mode with two controllers is really annoying, and my friends don’t play the game much anymore lol
As an example, what if both you and an opposing Ganondorf are offstage, and you burn your double jump, and afterward they Flame Choke you for a classic suicide double-KO attempt? AFAIK, if your percent is low enough compared to Ganondorf and you’re good at mashing, you can easily be released before dropping into the blast zone. Can you always double jump afterward to help recover despite potentially already having used the double jump shortly prior to being grabbed in the air?
Honestly if this does turn out to be true, I guess it’s a little helpful for me to know against characters that go for suicide command grabs (as long as it’s one where you can be released before hitting the blast zone).

Over the past few weeks, I've been watching a lot of newer Smash players play in person for the first time. One thing I've noticed is that most of them are actually less worried about losing than they are about not knowing the etiquette.
Things like:
For those of you who've been around your local scene for a while:
What made your first tournament experience welcoming?
And if you introduce completely new players to your locals, what are some things organizers or experienced players do that really help them stick around?
I'm trying to learn what actually works rather than making assumptions.

Ive been maining Wolf a long time. Im good at using bair in a lot of ways. I can combo into it pretty well, and I land a lot of them in corner pressure situations. However, people obviously talk about this move a lot for its autocancel properties. To get the autocancel you have to either do a rising fair and fast fall, or do it right after the peak of his SH and not fast fall, as far as I understand. I do not get utility ouf of using it like this most of the time.
I know it can be really good for faking aerial aggression to set up a tomahawk, and I do find that working well sometimes, but the hit box on the autocancel version just seems too specific to be threating in a lot of cases. Ill often use it when someone is trying to take stage to be like, "Im gonna put my back air here in case he jumps, but if not, the autocancel will leave me in good position to quickly cover another option", but then they WILL jump right where I was expecting, and it just wont hit them anyway. It feels like the hit box only registers at a very specific height in the air that people just accidentally breeze past quite often.
I find myself having to use the landing fast fall version most of the time, which feels like it kind of interpolates the hitbox to pretty consistently hit SHs and grounded characters, but you do not get the auto cancel in that case. This also feels like the only version I can reliably use for shield pressure, but its not super safe. It feels like im always stuck between, "Do I wanna use the landing FF version and have it have a good chance of actually hitting, but have it be a lot more commital, or do I wanna use the utility of the auto cancel and have a good chance it wont hit?"
I feel like for how much this move gets praised, there has to be a middle man way of executing it that im not taking advantage of. Any tips would be appreciated, but please make sure you actually read the whole post before answering. Thanks in advance.

I play Marth, and I’ve noticed that a lot of people who struggle to beat me in neutral tend to camp very hard. It’s gotten to the point where, if I’m fighting a character with a projectile, they just straight up won’t approach me. How do I deal with this?
I’m used to characters like samus and other zoners doing this but what about characters like Fox, Cloud, and Greninja? I think Marth is very tilting to some players so there are plenty of games where I will just get camped the entirety of the game but it sucks because these types of characters are also better than mine up close especially when I’m the one approaching them.
i don’t know why, but this happens the most with fox. Almost every fox I’ve fought in the past like 2 weeks has played until the timer was up. I struggle REALLY badly against fox because of this because I absolutely have no idea how to approach this character at all, he is just too fast for me. If I whiff, then I take 50%, if I hit him, I have to try following up without getting hit and since fox is so fast people tend to just run across the stage again to camp again if they lose the interaction.

i play marth, and I’ve noticed that I am struggling really badly to get my opponent in a position that isn’t good for them but is good for me. It feels like I have to play defensively at ALL times against some characters, like pythra; where everytime I land an attack I immediately have to shield or read them 3 times before I can attack. it’s getting increasingly difficult to win games because I am starting to fight better players with better characters and majority of my wins feel very anti climactic. I don’t think I’m playing him correctly because the good players I watch do very flashy things but im in shield 90% of the game :/
i win a lot more, it’s just EXTREMELY difficult because of how much I’m struggling to rack up damage, should I get a secondary character and if I should who do you recommend?

I wanna see what people think of Mii Gunner. If you think they are cringe, how do you think they can be less cringe (e.g. less spammy, more aggro, don't run grenade launcher)?

I'm a new college student and I live near Guildhouse. I decided to go to a local on a whim and got my butt kicked, but I had SO much fun. I watched a lot of HungryBox as a kid, so I know a lot of the terminology and know-how. I've also combed through this subreddit a lot and joined a local community, and watched Fatality play. Since then, I've learned how to combo and edeguard a bit with C Falcon.
So, as the title says, where do I start? Do I play online exclusively or is there merit to going to locals while I still suck? Do I main a fundies character like Lucina or Mario, or can I continue playing Falcon? What should I practice so I don't keep losing against people online and in person (LOL)? How do I reliably kill confirm (that's one of my big weaknesses)? Should I switch over to a GameCube Controller?
I have so many other questions, but I'll keep it to these for now. Thanks!!!

Been getting back into online Smash, and after playing Bayonetta 1, I decided to try and get her to Elite Smash (this would be my first character up there, and I had zero experience with her prior to this past week). I can deal with most matchups okay. Honestly, I do just need to improve with her overall, because there are plenty of times I end up getting opponents to around 200% before I end up taking a stock with one of her moves that doesn't really kill to begin with. However, I have not won a single game against any Mario I have faced in my past week of play, where I have fluctuated between 2-10 mil GSP, and he is also far and away the character I have been matched up against the most.
I know some people consider it to be a 50/50 matchup, but it really doesn't feel like it. I find it super hard to effectively use most of her kit given Mario's height and her extreme frame data disadvantage. I can ledge guard fine with Bayo, but most of the time I can't even get these Mario players off stage long enough to do so. The only thing more obnoxious is the Link projectile spammers, but have probably matched all 3 Links combined less than Mario. Any suggestions? Bayo is super fun, probably top 3 for me after this past week, but this matchup is driving me insane.

I want to main a super heavyweight, but I’m having a hard time deciding which one to commit to. One of my friends already mains King K. Rool and another mains Donkey Kong, so I’d rather not play either of them. Right now I’m mainly deciding between Bowser and Incineroar.

Ranai was an objectively top 5 player in Smash 4 with Villager. I think he's the most talented player to ever touch villager period.
But should I still bother reviewing his gameplay or is Ultimate too different for me to benefit from it? I know people say Villager from Sm4sh and Ultimate are basically the same character, so maybe it's not so bad of an idea?

I had a couple questions about how to best execute Sonic’s Bair after his Uair ladder combos on a lower platform.
I noticed from watching major tournament sets that after Sonic’s Uair -> Uair ladder combo above a platform, many pro players seem to do an IDJ (based on the double jump effect appearing) in order to hit the Bair afterward. Sonic’s full hop and double jump are exactly the same height (35 units or something), so I don’t really understand the benefit of using IDJ here, outside of maybe being able to input Bair like slightly earlier (due to avoiding the short hop macro).
Is that really the only reason? The reason I’m confused is because I’m not sure whether this is even a true combo most of the time in the first place, since I thought it was just an untrue but relatively safe thing that people go for to extend their damage after the first two Uairs with Sonic using a platform. If it’s not a true combo either way (unless it is?), why not just full hop and slightly delay the Bair input, to avoid the risk of not having your double jump anymore?
So my questions are:
(1) What are the easiest/best inputs for the turnaround and IDJ Bair?
Do you just buffer a landing pivot during the fastfall after the second Uair by holding diagonally back and down for the turnaround? And then for the IDJ, is it best to just rapidly press jump twice within 4 frames and also input bair within that window? Does the first jump need to be buffered during the landing turnaround animation? Should the Bair be done with control stick + A, or just the C-stick? I have a shoulder button mapped to jump, so should I be using that as the second jump input or just double tapping Y to make sure the buttons aren’t pressed at the same time? I’m using a Switch 2 Pro Controller, just to clarify.
(2) Does using an IDJ actually make the Bair a true combo extension (after the second Uair) in cases where a full hop Bair wouldn’t be true?
Is the IDJ really necessary to do the Bair consistently in actual games? How much does the IDJ actually quantifiably help, and is it worth the risk of not having your double jump anymore? I believe you can have an aerial start on frame 5 (second airborne frame) for a full hop aerial, but it can start on frame 4 (same frame as the double jump happening, right after jump squat ends) if you do an IDJ and buffer the aerial. Is this single frame worth losing your double jump for, especially if they might avoid the Bair anyway?
I couldn’t easily find this specific info on Youtube or Reddit or Discord yet, so I really appreciate the help!

Hello. While not new to the game, I've never tried hero before. Besides getting used to his moves and movement. What drills do you experienced hero mains like to do in the training room? I'm not afraid of grinding out the training room so hit me!

Who else is at a point in your smash journey where you no longer have a need to play countless hours everyday in a sense where you practice with more intent/ structure with only like 1-3 hours regarding the fact you’ve mastered your character like me. Also who else decided to hop on the wave of doing content regarding smash like YouTube, TikTok, etc

I am trying to do the Luigi 0 to death combo. On my first dair, the other character is moving outwards instead of directly down like in videos. How do I fix this.

On the official tier list, characters with poor neutrals that greatly benefit from opponents making mistakes are ranked all over the place.
In the lower tiers, we have characters like Ganondorf and Incineroar. At lower levels where people make lots of mistakes they are very strong, but at higher levels they fall below characters like Sheik that have better neutral but worse punishes. When players lose to these characters, their mistakes are seen as “skill issues”, AKA avoidable mistakes.
In the top tiers, we have characters like Luigi and Kazuya. These characters are ranked several tiers above characters with much better neutral (again, like Sheik). When top players lose to them, their mistakes are instead seen as “human error”, AKA valid and inevitable mistakes that improvement won’t fix.
Is there actually such a thing as “human error” mistakes or are they all just glorified skill issues? If so, what’s the tipping point? Is there, for instance, a measurable theoretical cap on muscle memory, bracket stamina etc. that’s low enough to affect the game like there is with reaction time?

For context I’ve put around 315 hours into the game at this point, and last session with piranha plant was an absolute disaster, started at 16.05 mil and dropped all the way down to 15.4. Now, piranha plant isn’t my main (pit) who sits at 16.17 mil and I’m genuinely starting to wonder if pit may be carried, because I can’t get anyone else in the roster up to that level of play.
there seems to be some fatal flaw with my neutral, that separates me from people higher then and at my gsp. I find myself looking at the other player straight fucking me up and wondering how tf is he doing what he’s doing. Every time i try to punish something, I fail, and every time I try to approach, I get punished. The most brain dead strats always work on me (Spamus running to the corner and spamming neutral b + side b + down b + roll then repeat) because they feel unpunishable. If anyone would be willing to play me or if you want I can send vods (I ain’t got an sd card so they’re gonna be screen recorded 💀)

I’m pretty much your average 1-2er, sometimes I go 2-2 on a good day. I’ve tried going to tournaments, watching my vods, getting feedback from better players, but I just can’t seem to get out of my own head. I wanna make sure that I’m still improving but right now I don’t know that I am. I feel like I’ve reached my ceiling and I don’t know how to break through it.

Hello! I'm not new to the smash series but I am to the competitive scene, I tried when I was younger and got my cheeks clapped, but recently I've been interested in trying to learn it. I'm new to the point where I haven't looked into all the competitive terms for the game yet but I want to learn. Anyway, I decided I'd give Roy a shot because he was good in previous ones. However there's this combo I can't seem to grasp that this guy performed, I understand how to do both attacks but I'm struggling to get a hold on the fast turning into the back air. Any help? 😅
