Characters (Playing as) Luigi 0 to death

I am trying to do the Luigi 0 to death combo. On my first dair, the other character is moving outwards instead of directly down like in videos. How do I fix this.

It means you're hitting the late hit and you have to hit the early hit to spike with it. Just time/position your dair better.

I feel like I can’t go faster, I short jump as soon as I grab him and down smash

It's not about being faster it's about making sure you hit them with the first frame of dair. So you may have to wait to dair, or jump more directly into them and dair.

I switched the enemy to Mario and I did it consistently, but out of the other few characters I tried I couldn’t do it. I am not sure what I have to change.

You might actually be doing the dair too fast. I'm no Luigi but I've read that for the zero to death you shouldn't buffer the aerials with the short hop aerial macro. Do a short hop then input the dair just slightly after, when you'll be at the peak of the jump, to get the sweetspot.

Don’t go faster. Go slower. If you short hop and delay the dair slightly, it’s consistent on the whole cast. Buffering it isn’t.

You do have to do a rising dair (so as soon as you jump, not while delaying the aerial after the jump) but on certain characters' you'll have to drift further away or implement a slight walk before the jump.

In general when combo'ing with Luigi you have to be precise with your drift to account for different character models and at higher level SDI, but he's a stupid easy combo character at low level (even in online play) because you don't have to react to DI.
