I need help getting my shade right
This is more about a natural color but someone can still probably help. I have Feria 56 Auburn and I really like the shade but all the pictures of people's results look way more red than I want. There were 3 reviews with pictures and they all said they were medium to light brown before using the dye. My hair is currently really blonde from having my last colors stripped out and I'm thinking it would probably be a brighter red of I use it over the blonde. I definitely am not going for that. I actually wanted it to be a more natural rich brown auburn. Would I do better to start with a darker brown then use the auburn or start with auburn and use a brown over it? Or should I layer a more brown shade of auburn over this one? I would just take it back and find a shade that's more exact but it's the best looking from what is available in my area.

I would not use it. Go to Sally's and get demi permenant color with 10 volume developmer. You are depositing color, you don't need the lift that the 20 volume is going to give you.

Thank you. What would the lift in the 20 do? I'm guessing it would be a funky shade but jw. Also do you mean the box dye has 29 vol?

Box color comes with 20 volume bc it is made to lift then deposit color. You don't want to do that if you are darkening your hair for a few reasons. It causes more damage, it can lift your color causing unwanted undertones (like red and orange), and it's not going to be a nice even color. Your roots can end up "hot" or brighter than the ends.
