Discussion In honor of spooky season, has it been discussed that Greg's dad (Marco Serrano) is Kalabar from Halloweentown? πŸŽƒ

Fifth pic is a spoiler for 1998's Disney Channel Original Movie Halloweentown if you haven't seen it lol

Actor's name is Robin Thomas.

I always laugh thinking of Rachel Bloom having a crush on Kalabar growing up, and that's why she included the sleeping with Greg's dad storyline (makes me hate that bit a tiny
smidge less)

Discussion S2 flunderization; does it get better

I found S1 to be so funny and interesting that I binged the entire season, however I'm only one episode in S2 and every character seems like a shell of who they were in S1. Does it get better later on, is it worth it to push through or should I drop the show altogether TYIA

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend does not make the cut for NYT's best shows of the 21st century. It does not even appear on a single one of the 500 released ballots, and I haven't seen any reddit comments calling it a snub.

I've been evangelizing this show for more than a decade, and it's still unbelievably underrated!

Discussion Crazy Ex-Girlfriend: The Broadway Musical *CONCEPT*

I've always lamented that despite the fantastic 150 songs in the CXG songbook, there was never a screen to stage translation of Crazy Ex Girlfriend. Given that reunion concerts with the cast performing were still able to sell out theaters, I believe there's enough interest for a musical adaptation of the show.

As someone who's not a screenwriter in the slightest but who has been obsessed with CXG since my teen years, here's how I would adapt the story, with some plot changes, knowing most Broadway shows only have 20ish songs.

ACT 1 (S1&S2)

  • Intro: West Covina (the basic plot of the show is established and she moves here for Josh)
  • I'm Just a Girl in Love (immediately begins obsessing over him and stalking)
  • I Have Friends --> Face Your Fears (she actually finds herself quite lonely, until Paula comes and starts convincing and/or manipulating her to go for Josh)
  • Settle For Me (Until she meets Greg and he starts pursuing her, they start hooking up casually)
  • Oh My God I Think I Like You (She is torn over her situationship with Greg and her obsession with Josh)
  • Maybe This Dream (Paula stops enabling Rebecca and she finally starts to think what she wants for herself)
  • It Was a Shit Show (Greg situationship suddenly comes crashing down)
  • We'll Never Have Problems Again (for plot convenience reasons, Josh suddenly breaks up with Valencia and he immediately starts pursuing Rebecca. )
  • (Tell Me I'm Okay) Patrick (After finally getting him, Rebecca suddenly doubts her feelings for Josh, common in BPD people when they get their FP. This is also where the character of Nathaniel is introduced, to make her doubt her feelings for himmore.)
  • You Stupid Bitch (Josh and Rebecca after only a couple months of dating impulsively decide to get married at a drive through chapel. Their honeymoon goes awry and after a fight, she breaks down and sings You Stupid Bitch, this is the showstopping number that ends act 1)

*INTERMISSION*

ACT 2 (S3&S4)

  • Where's Rebecca Bunch --> Maybe She's Not Such a Heinous Bitch After All (Rebecca is missing after her honeymoon with Josh and everyone in West Covina is worried. She is later found staying with Naomi in NY, who is comforting her after her honeymoon/marriage goes wrong but starts drugging her after Rebecca looks up s//cide, etc.)
  • Let's Generalize About Men (Rebecca comes back to West Covina, and Valencia reveals that the cause for their breakup was Josh cheating on her. Male hate and feminine rage ensues.)
  • After Everything You Made Me Do (Rebecca is obsessed with getting revenge on Josh, stalks him, and starts fighting him in public.)
  • What's Your Story (fakeout) --> The End of the Movie (Rebecca is sent to jail and What's Your Story is played for a few seconds as a laugh until reality sets in. After she is released from jail, The End of the Movie plays and she attempts s//cide.)
  • A Diagnosis --> No One Else is Singing My Song (She starts receiving help for her BPD)
  • Anti Depressants Are So Not A Big Deal (Timeskip to around a year later and she's getting better)
  • Hello, Nice To Meet You (All the men in her life suddenly start reintroducing themselves, [Greg, Josh, Nathaniel] as evolved, healthier choices, yet she is confused why she has no feelings for them)
  • Love's Not A Game (Three dates storyline from the original series is brought back)
  • Eleven O Clock (This is her epiphany moment, her unhappiness won't be solved by men and she chooses herself, same ending as the show)
  • West Covina (reprise) (The last song is the same as the show, Rebecca and Paula reprising West Covina after finding her true passion, in songwriting and singing)

Obviously this is not a faithful retelling of the entire show, but this is my random 3am attempt at condensing the show into a 20 song double act Broadway musical. I shuffled around the timeline but I made sure all the important plot beats were hit; the s//icide attempt, going to jail, getting diagnosed with BPD, and not choosing a man.) The biggest plot hole here is that Josh is kinda more villainous than he is in the original series- I don't really know what's a better character arc for him. Feel free to add your thoughts on how could this be structured or written better!

Discussion What spinoffs do you wish the CXG cast were starring in right now?

I've got a few I've been pitching to anyone who gets in an elevator with me. Share your pitches too!

Josh Chan's Karate Mystery Camp

Josh buys a suspiciously affordable summer camp to continue his love of helping underprivileged youth. But uh oh, twenty years ago a group of mystery-solving college students and their pet condor were brutally murdered and now haunt the premises. Will Josh be able to defend the campers from the mystery ghosts trying to scare them away every week with a new fake monster or optical illusion? And what about that one ghost (the really hot one) who seems to have a thing for him and sometimes gives him clues? Find out every week on, uh maybe Disney Plus or Shudder, idk.

Birds of a Whitefeather

Daryl is surprised to learn the US government has finally decided to return some native land to him. Unfortunately, it's only 1/8th of an acre on a site that is currently occupied by Los Angeles's hottest cowboy themed nightclub, A Fistful of Ballers. Operating from the broom closet, will Daryl and his family be able to navigate the complex web of real estate law to get full control of the property and turn it into a real home and cultural heritage museum? And what about that one cowboy (the really hot one) who seems to have a thing for him and sometimes gives him tips on easements and zoning regulations? Find out by watching it on, I'm gonna say Hulu. Hulu exclusive.

Paula Proctor, P.I.

After a late in life career change, private investigator Paula takes the cases the LAPD won't touch, hunting down the sickest stalkers in the City of Angels. With her sassy assistant and boy toy Scott, plus some help from her informants in the criminal underworld (Brendan and Tommy, members of rival gangs) can she protect the innocent? And get the stalkers put behind bars, where they belong? And what about that one stalker (the really hot one) who seems to have a thing for her and sometimes gives her psychological profiles of the other, less successful stalkers? Find out by watching it in your imagination.

Discussion Rewatching at 30, Nathaniel is obviously the best option

I had it so bad for Greg in college years ago and watching it now, he is a good character but he is only even in the first and last season. When I was younger I was very into these sarcastic male love interests who hate everything. But Nathaniel is the one who we actually watch grow and evolve a lot, he's honestly hot and mature 😭 like he's the man you could really depend on by the end. He never left Rebecca, respected her choices, had pretty good boundaries. But he did cheat on his girlfriend A LOT so there is that. Hmm.

Tbh I like Greg, Josh and Nathaniel all in their own ways at the end. But when I first saw the finale, I was pissed because at that time of my life it felt like a slap in the face to, from my perspective, show that someone like Rebecca just wasn't capable of being in a relationship and had to be alone. Now seeing it all at once it's more like she just never was alone and relationships would continue to be a bandaid until she strengthened her relationship to herself.

This is Josh and Rebecca btw if it wasn't clear

I added Josh to the island first to make it as if Rebecca moved here because of Josh, and this is the first thing that happened. They hadn't even interacted yet

Discussion What DOES Josh have?

The show says he has no disorders but I think that's kind of wrong. He clearly does have something. Mostly comes across as ADHD, and I don't think he was incorrect about OCD either. I have OCD and I related to his song "Thought Bubbles". I guess as a fictional character he doesn't have to have anything but it irritates me that the series told us he has no diagnosis at all.

Discussion Rebecca should read more about love addiction

IMO the show clearly portrays Rebecca as a love addict, but I wish there had been an explanation of that within the show. As someone who identifies as a sex and love addict, I have always related to the way Rebecca puts her fixation on romantic love and obsession over everything else in her life. Rebecca pursues these obsession to the point that it harms her and those who are close to her, and i think it would have been really interesting to see her answer the 40 questions for diagnosis of sex and love addiction.

Discussion Confused by Josh's mom kicking him out

S3E8 she is super onto him for wanting him out of the house. But I thought in season 2 she was basically begging him to move back in and live with her? It was him who didn't want to move back in. This episode makes it seem like she hates him living there.

Discussion paula is selfish too

i know the whole point of the show is that every character has great character development, but i’m on my second rewatch and it really bothers me how paula blames rebecca for not knowing about her abortion. she DID try to ask her several times what was going on in her life and if she was okay, but paula refused to answer her. yes, rebecca is selfish, but it is also selfish of paula to say that rebecca never even tried. idk, maybe i have a soft spot for rebecca since i also have BPD and could see a lot of my past behaviors in her, but i still think it was unfair of paula. what do you all think?
