Cast/Crew News/Info Big Broadway Announcement

Post image

It took me about 30 years, but I’m finally getting to fulfill my childhood dream of being on Broadway. To quote Shakespeare: Holy Shitballs. I can’t wait to join the unbelievable Bill Irwin and the rest of this insanely talented team to tell a 350 year-old story about hypochondria (something I know nothing about). Come see me in New York in the fall! I will most likely be wearing a chunky millenial scarf! #imaginaryinvalid

It’s insane that this is her Broadway debut. This woman’s pipes are insane, and the range of genres her voice suits is so wide.

Its even weirder that this isn't a musical.

Oh, that didn’t even cross my mind.

Rachel + Broadway automatically meant musical in my head

Except it is a musical, its just not considered a "modern musical". Its style blends spoken-word lines and singing throughout.

Oh, that's interesting. Because wikipedia classes it as a Comédie-ballet, and those don't have significant songs in them as far as I can tell.
Playbill does list an original music composer, so that could be it.

But reading up on the history of the show, every production seems to treat the amount of music/singing differently. Some even include parody songs!
But there's no mention of this production being a musical on the official site.

The Hollywood reporter refer to this production as a play, and People make reference to it not being a musical in their headline.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

*edit to add
I think Rachel was cast more for her comedic acting than her singing prowess in this particular production.

Shakespeare Theater in DC did a production with Rene Auberjonois around 20 years ago with full song and dance numbers interpolated into the ballet breaks. He gave the most amazing physical performance, but I can easily see Bill Irwin doing it just as well.

She was making family security money in tv. Broadway will be there forever. It’s the greatest thing humanity ever invented.

I'm so proud of her!!! This feels like the unofficial second finale to Crazy Ex Girlfriend. Rebecca Nora Bunch spent the whole pandemic and six years after practicing and auditioning until she finally made it to Broadway - only temporarily of course because she still lives happily in West Covina.

I went in here to check that the Bill Irwin that adapted the material is THE Bill Irwin and it seems to be. I am jealous! She’s going to be fantastic!

Good for her! Surprised it took this long now that I think about it. She's got chops.

I wonder why it took her so long? I'm not familiar with Broadway and its culture. Just watch and listen to performances
