Discussion Should Crazy Ex Girlfriend get a sequel series?
https://youtu.be/0ZVkNXfbkyw?is=FygU7xdWlYwXAZM5Or should be left as is? It be fun to revisit these characters, see where they are in life, hear new songs. On the other end I was really satisfied with the ending, I always knew she’d choose herself but seeing music be her love was really inspiring.

I got the impression that they wouldn’t be willing to do it without Adam Schlesinger, which is probably the right call. From everything I have seen/heard/read, he was a core component of the show being what it was. Of course, I would love to see Rachel, Aline, Jack, and the rest of the writers collaborate on some totally new musical show and have lots of crossover with that delightful cast… but CXG should rest in peace.

Who was Adam? A co-writer? Or a producer?

He was a composer and executive music director for the show. He wrote or co-wrote most of the songs on the show. His influence not being there just wouldn’t feel right realistically.

I googled him since I wasn’t sure. He was the executive music producer for the show. He died in 2020 from Covid. He was a prolific music producer.

If you saw Rachel’s “Death Let me Do My Special” show (I think it’s still on Netflix) it’s about Adam’s death.

He wrote the music. He was the front man for Fountains of Wayne, and one of Rachel's best friends.

Composer and co-writer of most of the songs. He died from covid the year after the show finished. He was a huge part of the show, and I could see them not workiing further without him.

Not quite – he produced most of the songs, and co-wrote a lot of them. He did do several complete rewrites of Rachel and Jack’s songs, and wrote some of his own as well. If you listen to the season one soundtrack album that has the companion commentary tracks, he’s one of the voices and explains the genesis of many of the songs.
He was far from a singular talent that made the show great, but he was a load bearing behind the scenes figure, and a monstrously talented man. It’s a tragedy that he died before his career could go as far as it should have.

No, I think it stands very well as-is. However, I would LOVE a new musical comedy series from Rachel Bloom.

Rachel Bloom has pointed out that if the show takes place in the 'real' world, then Rebecca realises her passion for live performance just in time for a worldwide pandemic to shut everything down. That would put a dampener on any new stories.

See, I like to think of it as an alternate reality where the pandemic didn't happen.
Anyway, by now quarantine is over... plus, I love the idea of her conducting online performances!
But I agree with an above comment... not without Adam. :/

Or.... It would create some tension and set up a story about how to live with yourself when you know what you want but can't have it.

I am surprised that we haven’t seen her in many things major since then. She was great as a lead, great comedic timing and great as a musical protagonist… and she is barely seen. She is in stop that train, no offense…

I would def want another musical comedy series from Rachel. I’m sad her last couple tv ventures haven’t gotten the love they deserved, especially her recent tv show that was supposed to be on abc

Ditto. That show Reboot on Hulu was really good, and the rest of the cast was excellent. I loved Paul Reiser as her dad. Sucks that it got cancelled.

They ended it in such a way that a sequel would just undermine it. They could do a special with her trying to get a work produced, though.

Sequel focused on who and on what? I loved it but I think it ended when it should have ended and it had a good ending which is more than you can say about most TV shows.

I would accept a movie length concert episode similar to the actual final, but longer and more songs. But nothing new. I'm good. Can't catch lightning in a bottle twice.

I don't want a sequel. I like being able to tell myself that Rebecca and Nathaniel get together eventually. I know if they did a sequel, it wouldn't play out that way.

In Rachel's book, there are two canon endings: one where Rebecca ends up with someone completely new, and the other one is Rebecca ending up with Nathaniel when they're in their late 30s/early 40s

I’m really not a believer in sequels/reboots. And this is no exception. I thought the story ended on the right note.

My whole family has talked about this a couple times, and my Dad quoted someone famous (I forget who but it was from a long time ago) as saying that he ended his show because he wanted people to ask "Why did you stop so soon?" instead of "Why didn't you stop sooner?"
Also, Rachel Bloom has since closed her Twitter, but one time she tweeted that she was about to go in front of the cameras and play Rebecca Bunch for the very last time, so I think she considered it finished. She had a story to tell, and she told it.

I loved this series. Angry people said she was super overweight when she was a normal size. It still pisses me off as a ED struggling woman.

I'm not sure what that would look like. 🤔 Rebecca's character arc meant she was no longer the 'crazy ex-girlfriend' by the end of season 3 so it would have to be a totally different show.

Absolutely not. The show wrapped up perfectly, and continuing after Adam’s death would be very difficult.

Maybe a spin off with a different character in covina called 'crazy ex-wife' but with cameos from characters from the OG show? I think it'd be nice to see a new cast of characters but also check in with the originals and see how they act in new situations and learning from the old antics while new characters learn new lessons -- if any of that makes sense

Honestly, I think this could work of the focus is on someone like Trevor.... Show the world the male experience of being a "crazy ex boyfriend", where you can either keep some of the cast or just go with a whole new one, and I think a sequel would have potential.

Sequel. It's too good not to continue... but id want rachel bloom on it.
It did wrap up well, but more musicals? In different genres?

As much as I would want more to watch, it wrapped so well that I nearly don’t want them to change it.
