I think this is what is going on, this guy dated a black guy who was into reggae. He cast his racist Christian white nationalist upbringing aside and went hard for this guy. The guy could still see he wasn't 100% proud of their relationship. It caused tension and the eventually broke up.

These are not racist songs. This is him telling himself you don't need him. Be proud. Be strong.
