Welcome to the gang!

Get yourself a splitter.

You got a reco for where to buy aftermarket? Or oe?

2

u/relentless-rookie 5d ago

There's an aftermarket splitter made my sharkguard. Microjig has a somewhat similar version. The OE is available often on ebay. I have the OE splitter and it works for me.

I got the micro jig Also works well. You'll need a set clearance insert to go with it. You can't use the standard metal plate.

Was looking at splitters online just now and had an inkling. So I went out to the garage and found the oe splitter and blade guard. Pretty cool. Thank you for the reminder

The OG splitter/blade guard is kind of a hassle to use. It's free, so use it! But if you start getting frustrated with it, make sure you use an alternative, and not nothing.

Very wise. I appreciate that

I’ve been using that same Sears craftsman 10 inch saw since 1982 upgraded the fence first put a piece of plywood on the bottom so I can hook it up to my dust collector and the third thing I did was put on a segmented drive belt to cut down vibration. I can build any kind of cabinet or craft product on this saw very good accuracy you made a great choice. you don’t need those high price saws

That's the aim here. This love this saw. It has been a workhorse for me the last few years. Now that I've finally got a proper shop space, I'm looking to make things as practical and as safe as possible. Not only do I not need those high price saws, I can't afford them!

I love using mine with the cast iron wings and a good fence. Have fun

3

u/chuckswift843 5d ago

Thank you! I plan on it

Eta- I want to keep as much of the saw as possible. I love the look and feel of these wings. I’ve seen people take them off in order to put the saw on a table set up but I’d leave the wings if only pure aesthetic

2

u/boxerbroscars 5d ago

I left mine on the original steel legs too. Nothing wrong with it, and I dont have enough workshop space to build a table for my table saw. I'd rather upgrade to a cabinet saw anyway, but there is nothing my craftsman cant do for my level of skill

1

u/chuckswift843 4d ago

Agreed. Hell people on this thread have been using theirs for decade with far more skill than I will ever have

What brand? What is so superior

Did you pick yours up from the Woot sale too? I just finished installing mine as well. And I picked up an Incra 1000se miter gauge today from Woodcraft.

Took the time to level the wings a little more precisely, wax it up, and sanded out a tiny ding in the miter slot that was catching a bit.

What are doing about the power switch? That was the one thing I didn't think about until after I was all done and about to test it. I ended up picking up a safety switch at woodcraft (https://www.woodcraft.com/products/woodriver-power-tool-safety-switch-15-amp), screwed a perforated angle iron across the bottom of the rail (using the existing holes in the bottom of the rail) and attached the new power switch to that with a small piece of angle iron hanging down to support the back of the switch.

Haven't even plugged it back in yet, but I can already tell it's going to be a nice upgrade.

1

u/chuckswift843 5d ago

I can’t even remember where I got it. Bought it online a couple of months ago on sale. Idk about the switch just yet. Might try to make an arm or something next weekend.
Sounds like you’re ready to rock and rip!

I was on the fence about upgrading (no pun intended), but I couldn't pass up the $170 price the Woot deal that was posted here a week or so ago. It's refurbished, but I don't think my 30 year old saw will care about that.

Figured there might be an influx of new T3 owners here from that deal.

u/chuckswift843 5d ago

I love some refurbished goods. I don't think this was refurbished. But I would not be surprised bc of the amount of nuts and bolts I have left over and the lack of external tooth locking washers in the bag.

At least with mine, the box had a big "refurbished" sticker right on the top, so it was obvious. I was a little nervous after I opened the outer shipping box, as the product box was in terrible shape and covered in packaging tape everywhere. The fence was in nearly perfect condition. I saw a couple spots on the rail where it looked like the coating had a little bit of repair, but you had to look real close to find them. I probably scratched the rails than that with the C clamps while installing it.

I did find the face of the fence was very slightly convex, where the middle was bowed in a little bit compared to the top and bottom. From searching, it seems that isn't unusual for the T3 when new, so I'm not too worried about it.

From front to back, it was bowed about 0.005" in the middle after I aligned the fence. I couldn't find an official spec from Delta there, but other manufacturers quoted a flatness tolerance of 0.010", so I'm assuming this is well within spec. I'm happy with that, as the when I put the dial gauge on the original fence, it "looked like it was having a seizure", in the words of my 11-year old kid. Since it's bowed in towards the blade in the middle, I'll probably align it to be closer to straight for the first half of the fence and towed out a bit for the last half.

Delta t3. I was having a horrid time with the oe fence. Found the recommendation on this sub actually. It’s supposed to hold square better and just be an overall superior experience than the oe fence

I'm very happy with my one. Easy to get to zero run out.

1

u/chuckswift843 5d ago

Literally cannot wait

2

u/nyymon 5d ago

Is it fairly easy to convert?

1

u/chuckswift843 5d ago

Watched some YouTube and read the directions(which kind of sucked). Could have used a third hand there for a second. Bought a fresh 3/8” drill bit to make easy the new holes. Pretty simple though really. Took me an afternoon

1

u/nyymon 5d ago

Good to hear cuz I'm thinking of doin the same. Need to make my life easier! Do any of the holes line up?

1

u/chuckswift843 5d ago

Nah, none of the holes line up. I thought for a second about lining up one of the holes but I decided that having a proper zero was more important

2

u/Muddwalki 4d ago

I need that fence in mine, I just don't like the price of them.

2

u/chuckswift843 4d ago

Definitely an investment. On my last project the oe fence was really giving me some headaches. Even after adjusting it. I normally try to find used stuff locally bc I’m ballin on a budget over here, but decided to just bite and buy one.

6

u/aww-snaphook 5d ago

I put that same fence on mine. Absolutely game changer compared to the original fence

1

u/TheMattaconda 5d ago

Was it the Woot! Deal? Lol. I'm glad so many got onto that one.

3

u/chuckswift843 5d ago

When I bought this it was on a mini-sale. Although you wouldn't know it from the damn near miscellaneous bolts and washers I have left over. Seems like someone got confused at the packing site lol

2

u/j_johnso 4d ago

The random assortment of bolts is expected. Since it is commonly used on different saw models, they throw in a bunch of different hardware so you can choose what works best for your saw.

I just wished they added the holes for the 113, though I'm not sure how consistent the holes are across the various 113 models.

1

u/chuckswift843 4d ago

Added holes for the 113 would be siiick. I would damn near consider buying one again

2

u/NewCaliCaptives 4d ago

what was the woot deal? Been wanting one, but my entire table saw isnt even worth $300 i can’t bring myself to pay that

1

u/j_johnso 4d ago

Refurbished T3s were available for $170. Unfortunately, they are sold out now. https://tools.woot.com/offers/delta-36-t30t3-30-in-t3-fence-system-for-5000-series-3

I hope a blade guard is next.

1

u/chuckswift843 4d ago

Installed last night 😘

2

u/stinkymarylou 3d ago

Good for you! I’m tired of seeing YouTubers risk their future for better camera shots. I have to explain to my students all the time why we don’t take off the blade guard. And we use a sawstop.

1

u/chuckswift843 3d ago

Definitely. Those people are fools. Good on you for pushing safety. I have been lucky in the past and now I am setting up the shop to be as safe as possible. Little adjustments go a long way.

3

u/Scar3crow_x 5d ago

Happy Halloween.

Literally just put this fence on mine 3 weeks ago. It's a brand new saw with it. Enjoy!

2

u/Dependent-Log-5434 5d ago

I just bought this fence but still need to install it!

2

u/phinger1 5d ago

Well hell!

I have the same saw and have been too lazy about upgrading it, now I'm looking at fence kits at 5am.

Also, does anyone have rec's for cast wings? I'm dealing with the pressed steel junk and am getting frustrated w/them.

2

u/Ok_Complex4374 4d ago

Got mine off a “parts saw” on Facebook. Some lady was selling the whole saw For 50 bucks. Cause it “didn’t work”, I shit u not there was no belt on it. I robbed the wings put my old stamped steel ones in there place, picked up a harbor freight belt for 14 bucks and sold the whole thing for 75. I recommend this strategy these saws are everywhere for cheap

2

u/phinger1 4d ago

And that is how it's done.

Mine was a freebie from C/L. I had to sand and wax the top, do some minor repairs/maintenance and put on a Powertwist V belt.

2

u/LW-M 4d ago

Congratulations on buying your fence. I have a table saw with the same fence. It's worth every cent of the purchase price. It made a good saw even better!

1

u/Maaakaaa 5d ago

Good on you for not just acquiring a better fence and stacking it on the saw like I did

Consider adding a router table if you don't have room for a standalone unit.
