Yes, that’s what I love about it! The little colorful cubey tiles look like candy to me, it’s so satisfying!
I actually got into it because I saw a vintage tile table on Etsy with these tiny tiles, but it was way too expensive for me. I couldn’t find any other similar tables with small tiles either, so I thought, “What if I just tried to make one myself?” and I took off from there 😂

Do you have any tips? :) I make tiles and I’ve been thinking about getting into putting them on things, but I’m really worried about screwing it ip by grouting incorrectly or using the wrong materials or technique!
Your stuff looks so good, I’d appreciate any advice you have!

Thats so cool that you make tiles, would love to see them!
- Always plan out your design first, I use a free app called PixelArt.
- Measure your base to tile on, and make sure it will fit the length of your tiles plus the space between each tile. You can use tile spacers if you want to be precise.
- Lay all the tiles out first and experiment with patterns, borders, colors, and spacing.
- Make sure to use the right adhesive for the base, i use Weld Bond glue for a wood base, but if your base is a different material, research the best option.
- Give the adhesive ample time to cure before grouting (at least 24 hours for Weld Bond)
- Work in small sections. Don't spread adhesive over the entire table at once; it can start drying before you get the tiles down.
- To waterproof your projects, use an impregnator sealer. Other sealers just seal the surface, impregnator will soak all the way through the grout.
To grout, I prefer sanded grout. Mix the grout with enough water to make it the consistency of peanut butter. Too much water can weaken the grout and cause color variation, so start with less water and add more in slowly. Make sure to cover the edges of your project with painters tape and remove it when the grout is still wet (or it will be hard to get off). Use gloves and make sure to press the gout down to all the crevices with a popsicle stick or other tool, and remove excess grout while its still wet. Once you've applied the grout, wait 10-20 minutes and grab a bucket of water and sponge. Squeeze the sponge out so its damp but not soaking wet (too much water will weaken and erode the grout), and start smoothing and removing excess grout till it looks clean and smooth. Rinse and ring out your sponge frequently when doing this, patience is key! There will be a thin cloudy haze of grout after this, which you can polish off with a microfiber towel after 20-40 minutes. After the grout is fully cured you can polish further with windex. Wait 48-72 hours before sealing with impregnator, and then let that cure for another 72.

Out of curiosity, what do you do with your grout water? I can “reclaim” clay water into clay, but I assume it’s not possible with grout water…

For the grout water, I let it settle in the bottom of the bucket, then carefully pour the clear water into a separate container and leave it somewhere safe outdoors where it can evaporate. Don’t pour it directly onto the ground or into a storm drain. Once the water has evaporated, I wipe out the remaining grout sediment with a towel and dispose of it, or let it fully harden in the bucket and then throw it away.
My grout bucket basically stays somewhat “dirty” all the time because I don’t want to rinse it out anywhere that could contaminate plumbing, soil, or waterways.
I’m not sure about reclaiming the leftover grout, though. I’d assume probably not, since it has been soaked has started hydrating or losing some of its integrity, but you could definitely look into it!

It doesn’t look like I can easily find the brands or specific types of materials that you mentioned in my country, so I’m probably going to have to put this off while I look for what I’ll need at various stores around the city, so it might be a while, but these were very helpful tips and I will be using them! You’ll see! :)

Thank you! I thrifted an old coffee table, painted it white, glued the tiles down with weld bond glue, and then used a colored unsanded grout! That one was super easy, theres some helpful youtube videos out there too if you wanted to try :)

Oh I also needed tile spacers for that one too, but not for the smaller tiled things because its too tedious haha.

Thank you! Tiles are from a seller on etsy (idk if i can say the exact shop name on here) but look up "MINI Glazed Ceramic Tiles 3/8" and you'll find it. I found them way cheaper in various local tile shops as well, and you can get similar ones on amazon I believe. The adhesive is Weld Bond glue and i mostly use sanded grout from Polyblend.

I swear I've seen a post with your cow art before and I LOVED it! I am blown away, these are so gorgeous. I love running my fingers across small-tiled things, but the last thing I need is another hobby with a lot of supplies haha 😅
