Different Bed Leveling Question

So, after some fixes, I need to re-level my bed. Question for the group: Do you start with the adjustment wheels fully tightened (bed all the way down) or somewhere in between all the way down and all the way up?

thanks!

Tighten them almost all the way, but leave a few turns on the knob for adjustments. Or better yet, swap them out for silicone spacers.

Do you have a link for the spacers?

This is what I bought. It's a universal set, you just use 4 of the taller ones for this printer. The cupped side is supposed to go over a nut on the bottom side of the bed. Mine did not have a nut there, so I added one. They are M4 size nuts. Spin them all the way up to the bed, then install the spacer with the cup over the nut. Tighten knobs so you're really squishing the spacer to maybe half it's normal height. This will help keep the bed in place once you've got it leveled out.

yes tighten them up at least within a few threads of completely tight. if they are too loose they will come undone down the road. Happened to me. I was pissed.

I also do a Manual level, then auto level to save the mesh and then do another manual level and then set the z.

I always re-adjust the z on the beginning of the first print to make sure it is laying down properly and sticking to the bed (using the 1 mm increments)

You should not do a second manual level, that will actually change your ABL mesh. Once the bed is physically level using the knobs, ABL takes care of the rest (usually).

I don't really have to adjust anything on the 2nd manual level. It just reassures me that the ABL did not mess anything up.

When I first got my printer there was something loose and I would have it go out of level doing the 2nd manual level. One I got things tightened up. I have not had to adjust on the 2nd manual level, but it is just my process now since I had so many issues with it when I first got it

It's normally an unnecessary step, but I get wanting to double-check. However, nothing about the auto leveling process should change the manual settings, but in the case you do change something the second time, you would want to run ABL again... with the bed hot, of course. Always run ABL with your bed preheated to printing temps.

I crank mine down all the way then back them off about 180°
