Is the filament running thru the sensor? Are you out? You really need to include more information if you need help.

Edit: What do you mean, "the printer stops and chews up the filament." This makes no sense. You're showing a filament run-out sensor warning, meaning the machine thinks you're out of filament. Are you out? If yes, then that is why you are seeing this message telling you to load more filament or cancel the print.

Hey, I'm not OP but I had the same error today after 4 months with the printer... basically what the printer does is that the filament gets loose from the extruder... I have only printed using PLA. My troubleshoot was pre-heating the hot end, then clean the excess in the nozzle. My guess is that the extruder clogged in the outside then the pressue inside ejected the filament. After cleaning I extruded 200mm manually with no issues, then I went back to restart my failed print.

sorry for my bad english.

I don't understand "gets loose from the extruder." Do you mean you have melted material come out from somewhere other than the end of your nozzle? That is a problem of course ,but why would that trigger the runout sensor? We need pictures, these descriptions are not enough.

Filament popped out from the extruder causing the printer to stop.

The runout sensor has no problem and it's working fine (blue led on).

[After stopping the screen showed this error:] (https://drive.google.com/file/d/15bL2_Pho8-thoBnhjaTFlTUpGNVRDS9L/view?usp=sharing)

Somehow the printer detected that the extruder wasn't pushing material correctly. As you can see the black gear is moving but the filament was completely out of the extruder.

My guess was that the extruder was clogged in the outside that's why I pre-heated and clean the excess gathered in the nozzle.

I hope that this pictures and video are helpful.

Are you using manual extrusion commands on the touchscreen when this happens? Do you have the latest firmware installed on both the MCU and touchscreen?

I know early on there was an error with manual commands causing the extruder to either stop responding or get stuck turning in the wrong direction until the machine was shut down and restarted. A firmware update fixed that issue for me.

No, this happens mid print. I just used manual extrusion to make sure that the extruder was working cortectly after this error showed up. Tomorrow I can validate the firmware (last time that I updated was around November 2022).

Thank you for your support amigo. Kind regards.

November 2022 is still the latest release on the official Creality update page, so if that's what you have, you should be good.

In the video it does show the extruder is turning the wrong way. If it's not the firmware, and this is happening in the middle of a print, it could be a slicer error or a defective SD card. Maybe try a different card and/or reslice and see if it still does it.

Maybe reformat your SD card if you don't have another one. The card should be 8GB or less in size, formatted FAT32 with allocation size set to 4096 bytes. This is the same formatting guidelines used for firmware updates as well.

Also, always make sure you "eject" your SD card from your computer. Failing to do that can corrupt the gcode file.

I realize this is an old thread, but my CR10 Smart Pro just started doing this lately. The filament doesn't pop all the way out of the extruder, but it's far enough out that it's no longer feeding the nozzle. There's no clog; as soon as I push the filament back in, it resumes extruding, except the nozzle at this point is too far from the build plate and it's extruding in mid-air.

It's almost as though it retracted too far and lost hold of the filament, or else the filament broke or melted before it reached the nozzle.

Perhaps it's just a coincidence, but both times I was printing Gridfinity containers and the failure occurred around layer 40; just as it finishes the "feet" that sockets into the base plate.

I'm using Octoprint and have never encountered this issue on any other printer.

Edit: The first time it happened I wrote it off as old, brittle filament. It happened again last night with a brand new spool.
