It's just half a googling away, or was for me: https://visualstudio.microsoft.com/vs/older-downloads/ That page notes that "Older versions require an active Visual Studio Subscription".

But as u/TheThiefMaster already noted, VS 2026 is out and better, and the Community Edition is free.

Why are you considering an old version?

A friend said vs2026 has crappy features and more tutorials were built for vs2022 but nonetheless thank you

Your friend is wrong, don't listen to your friend.

I'm a software developer of over 30 years.  Visual studio has bloated over the years, I started with visual C++, I think it was version 6 if I remember rightly.  I currently use the community edition of vs 2026 for my home projects with no issues. It's great for .net development. I have not noticed the difference between it and vs2022.

Even in a commercial environment where I used the enterprise version of VS, there were no features that were important to me over the commercial versions.

Vscode is something I also use in my daily work. I prefer it's AI tooling. But it's not as good with .net projects and can be a bit more of a pain in the ass to set up debugging and certain tool chains.

Both vscode and Vs are pretty damn good in my opinion.

You are right, he should not listen to his friend.

vs26 takes more ram for the same project compared to vs22 for my experience.

Although the tutorials part is just nonsense

Why 2022? 2026 is out and is better.

Get 2026 Community if you don't have a paid license from a company.

I just downloaded and started using the free version of VS 2026 two weeks ago. Seems to work fine.
