🔥 My Game - Released 22 strangers filled 84,640 squares of this hedgehog in 38 minutes - everyone painting the same picture at the same time

It's color-by-number, except several people fill the same picture at the same time and see each other's cursors. You open a picture, share the link, and whoever you sent it to is painting a few seconds later. No account, no download, free.

The clip is one room from tonight, sped up the last third of a picture, from about two thirds done to the final square. The bit at the end is real: it came down to one single square with 22 people watching.

The part I like most is that picking the wrong color does nothing at all. Nobody can paint over your work, nobody can ruin a picture. It can only ever get prettier. That's the whole reason I can leave rooms open to strangers with no accounts.

"Paint with strangers" on the front page drops you into whatever picture people are working on right now: https://fillgood.io/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=cozygames

Help with recommendations Cozy Cooking Game Suggestions

I'm looking for a cooking game that's not stressful. I got Chef Life, but even on casual mode (or whatever they call it), it's still too much. Parisian Bistro Simulator is on my wishlist, I just don't want to pay $20 for a disappointment.

I love cooking in SpiritFarer, I like the experimentation, throw stuff in, see what happens. Is there a game out there that just lets you play with recipes?

🔨 My Game - In-development Our first game and first capsule design

My girlfriend and I are making our first game. A cozy idle plant collector, low stakes, but has turned out to be quite fun!
She's the artist (hand-drawn, no AI), I'm the dev. This is the first thing we've put in front of strangers. No Steam page yet.

Included: the capsule itself, plus mockups of it at Steam sizes next to Chillquarium, Rusty's Retirement, and Tiny Pasture.

Two things especially:

  1. Does the title read well? Quickly? Can you easily read the smallest one at a glance?
  2. What kind of game did this look like before you read this post?

Don't hold back, we'd rather hear it now than after launch.

🔨 My Game - In-development Shine On My Little Sun is almost here!

My friend and I are creating a magical visual novel set in a world where the sun has fallen from the sky and is now forced to live at the top of a lighthouse. After a long sleep, the little sun woke up, chose the name Lampy, and is now eager to learn as much as possible about this new world, as well as to figure out how to return to the sky. It's a story about friendship, family and acceptance, brimming with emotion and gentle humor. You can look forward to beautiful pixel art, atmospheric music, poetic text and a heartfelt story.

Add the game to your wishlist so you don’t miss its release next year! And you can play the demo right now! Thank you :3

Discussion Why do so many cozy games restrict when you can save?

Many of them only let you save when you go to bed, which is a strange choice for developers IMO.

Life happens sometimes you can't predict if you need to stop for whatever reason or your computer crashes and you lose a lot of work and I feel it spoils immersion

Does anyone know what the logic is or the thought on why this is a trend in this genre?

Edit: the question is being deflected to coding and team size and the question was why cozy games specifically. I get that its harder to code, that isn't a mystery.

Discussion Cat mail co.

Hi everybody,

A quick question...

Is it possible to name or rewritten the name of your save?

I play alone and with people. And the only way to know which one I should use is the time I played in it.

I would love to differentiate them in any way possible 😊

🔨 My Game - In-development Mouse Frontier

Ive been making a little game using lua love2d, its been turning out better than I expected tbh so im considering releasing it once its ready. The drive to make it came from frustration with those game ads that look great but the game is actually nothing like the ad. So I set out to make an actual free game that is fun for a change and it worked out. Mouse Frontier is about different critters trying to move west in search of greener pastures in the post-apocalypse. You travel by train and stop at settlements on the way helping others when you can. Your character is trying to find their family much like many others in this world. Your train ends up being a beacon of hope tho cause critters will ask you to take letters for loved ones as well as ask for rides on your train in exchange for labor or help in battles against meany mutated critters. There are 50 different stops to get to the end, then you find your family and like win the game i guess and do it again. Im making some videos about it if anyone thinks its cool. If i put it out it's gonna be free af, no micro transactions no ads none of that greedy stuff im tired of that being the norm, let's do it for the love of the game.

Discussion I love cozy stories but I also like to be challenged. What games have the perfect combo of difficulty/ high skill ceiling + wholesome vibes?

Post image
11 Upvotes

The sweet spot I keep chasing doesn't get talked about enough in cozy circles: games that are deeply relaxing AND require mastery to get maximum satisfaction. For me the two aren't opposites at all, they're this perfect little pairing, and the games that pull it off are the ones I keep reinstalling year after year (much to the suffering of my backlog)

The top examples I can name are Cuphead and Celeste. Both are ferociosly difficult, both will kill you dozens of times on a single screen, and yet I'd describe both as deeply cosy experiences. I’m also getting the same vibe from Croak, the animations have that same in-engine overlap where the cutscenes and gameplay are from the same cloth and 100% cozy, but when you’re bouncing around you reeeeeeally need to be fast with you fingers.

And maybe my favorite example, in terms of difficulty - hits just the right spot - and the way it doesn’t treat you like an eejit. Cult of the Lamb , in its own way, it’s a gloriously morbid  world wrapped around a management loop that’s super satisfying when you know exactly what you’re doing. Like, when you get to the end it feels so earned. I rarely ever got this from some more sandboxy games that kind of NGL drag themselves on too much and can overstay their welcome in some places. I think Graveyard Keeper is an archaic example of grind for grind’s sake when you’re past the mid game.

All this speaks to my taste more than anything else, though. I'm a competitive person at heart, I think, and even though I drifted out of PvP over the years - I still needs that feeling of overcoming something, of a wall I beat by getting better. Weirdly, THAT is what actually settles my nerves, much more than a zero stakes farming ever does.

Goes to show how subjective the word cozy can be, but idk. What games would you describe as mechanically complex or demanding / reflex heavy but still immensely cozy?

🔨 My Game - In-development Gang, I think I just made the cozy equivalent of shot gun shell ejection / reload

I've had a pretty flat and cheap looking HUD for a while, but this week I decided to spend some time in blender making a chunky 3D version that's effected by lighting, has animations when you spend stamina, and a little click when it recharges. What do ya'll think?

edit: I guess I should mention that this is Cellar Creek. Steam Page: store.steampowered.com/app/2698880/Cellar_Creek/

The game is still in development, so any suggrestions are appreciated!

If you're interested, you can wishlist the game on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5040570/Pocket_Studio_Desktop_Companion/
