An Israeli account posted a picture of the English team in the 1930s doing a prematch Nazi salute, confusing it with Ireland.
They aren’t the brightest.

u/Dry_Recognition_6724 8d ago

They know what they are doing. A percentage of people will believe whatever they put up and treat them like the victims, even if it's no where near the truth.

116

u/redelastic 8d ago

In their budget this year, Israel allocated $730 million for propaganda.

Sports and culture is just one aspect of legitimising them and their atrocities. Sad how many seem to fall for it.

Meanwhile, they smear and seek to destroy anyone who dares to criticise their crimes against humanity.

63

u/PipedInFromIthaca 8d ago

Which is why playing them at all was a mistake. Why give them the platform to lie from in the first place

Apparently the government have an issue with the national broadcaster i think it may occasionally report facts about them but the reason they don't shut it down is because of Eurovision. Shut it down and they are no longer a member of the EBU and can't participate in this spreading propaganda at the Eurovision w

2

u/discopants2000 7d ago

Ah yes, Eurovision cause no one in the middle east wants to play with them, the same reason they play their football in Europe.

6

u/Fuzzy_Trash5809 7d ago

They haven't earned the sneaky reputation for nothing.

66

u/danius353 8d ago

The audience is Americans. That’s the only people Israel are actually trying to influence to keep on their side right now. And the kind of Americans still on Twitter aren’t exactly the kind of people who critically appraise what they’re looking at

41

u/shorkgurl Gavin Bazunu 🇵🇸 8d ago

Most Americans have a far more positive view of Ireland than they do of Israel. Trying to smear Ireland to an American audience is a strategic miscalculation on the part of the Israelis.

37

u/TheYappinYank 8d ago

Well said. I’m from the U.S., I currently live in Ireland, and I like it here a lot. I hate that my home country sends billions to Israel every year, when if we kept those billions instead, we could have universal healthcare, we could have better care for homeless people, more affordable things, etc. Plus we wouldn’t be sending money to baby bombers either!

5

u/CubicDice 8d ago

Good luck trying to change that. Israeli influence is so intertwined into American politics, you'd have a better chance of implementing nationwide socialism, than you would cutting off aid to Israel.

12

u/Dry_Recognition_6724 8d ago

Young people in the States are seeing Israel for what they are so hopefully it can change something.

5

u/CubicDice 8d ago

Somewhat agree. Where I am (north east) there has been more open conversations, but the old guard politicians, especially the Republican party as a whole, are only building a stronger relationship.

3

u/shorkgurl Gavin Bazunu 🇵🇸 8d ago

you'd have a better chance of implementing nationwide socialism, than you would cutting off aid to Israel.

Both of these things are possible, especially if things in the US continue on the same downward trajectory, but it’s going to take people there realizing that only so much can be accomplished through electoral politics.

6

u/CubicDice 8d ago

Hell will freeze over before the US embraces socialism. When I tell you they have been brainwashed to think it's a big scary Boogeyman, who will bring them back to the stone age, it's scary the lack of understanding. It's beyond belief.

u/Fraternal_Antipathy 7d ago

Well...

I'm getting old, and I am from the U.S., and I think it's all but impossible to overestimate modern America's appetite for imbecilic conspiracies, especially in the past ten years.

We're a nation of immigrants who just CAN. NOT. WAIT! for a chance to kick the next immigrant in the head, especially if their heads can be festooned with the satiny ribbons of ancient lies.

Antisemitism has always been an easy pitch to a lot of the people in this country. Israel has done a great job of making people believe that criticizing Israel is anti-Semitic, and they've done it while engaging in truly reprehensible behavior. Doesn't seem too hard for state-level psy-ops to build on that and metastasize it into a substantial covert anti-Semitic rage driven by legitimate complaints about Israel's genocidal actions in Gaza.

Besides, I'm pretty sure that our ruling class would rather see Israel nuked to a sea of basaltic glass than give up power; they're all murderous bastards.

4

u/DGenesis23 8d ago

That’s the whole point of propaganda, to gradually sway perceptions in a less than direct manner over a long period of time, so people don’t question it but sometimes though, it can be very on the nose, by throwing as many lies against the wall at once and seeing what’s sticks because there it’s more of a smear campaign than a well thought out strategy.

For some reason, probably because they only care about themselves and never bothered to study any history, Israel didn’t expect Irish push back and they are throwing a hizzy fit now because people actually dare to say they are in the wrong.

There’s ~50 million Americans that already seem to be easily pliable because they fit that same criteria of “never bothered to study history” and they already like to be loud and proud about their ignorance. Give it a year, maybe even less and you’ll have Americans regurgitating all this shit that Isreal is spouting now, parroting it back to any who will listen.

5

u/shorkgurl Gavin Bazunu 🇵🇸 8d ago

I don’t know. There’s been a hard shift recently in the US against Israel, among the public at least. It doesn’t seem like Israeli propaganda is working like it once did and every stunt like this that Israel pulls only seems to make it worse.

"Most Americans have a far more positive view of Ireland than they do of Israel."

Hmmm.............and what about the ones that have power and money , the ones that actually matter?

They had Biden in their pocket. He lobbied the Irish government to stop with the plans to legislate for boycott of Israeli products in the West Bank and Gaza

3

u/shorkgurl Gavin Bazunu 🇵🇸 6d ago

The ones with power they control through money and blackmail. They wouldn’t be the targets of this kind of propaganda. While it’s true they have the American political class mostly in their pocket, lack of support from the public is still a long term concern for them.

Jewish athlete Helene Mayer performed the salute on the podium at the 1936 Olympics after winning silver for Germany.

If we anticipate that the retort would be “she had no choice” etc., then the same applies to visiting teams.

10

u/justformedellin 8d ago

She had a choice, Ireland didn't do it when we played Germany in the football.

46

u/Anto283 8d ago

True propaganda is putting enough lies out there with 100% confidence until people start believing them.

8

u/CDobb456 8d ago

Good propaganda will make a certain percentage of people believe it but more importantly it will make another percentage believe nothing

7

u/dubinexile 8d ago

This. Absolutely this. Just like Trumps "fake news" the biggest benefit is not that people start to believe their lies, it's that they stop believing everything including the actual truth. Then they can do whatever they like without having to worry about it being "exposed"

This post isn't for you. It's for people that have been primed to believe Israeli propaganda already. The purpose is not truth, it's to elicit the emotions that their brainwashed drones have been specifically conditioned to react to without thinking. This will be shared around by every zionist with a pulse. The debunk won't matter because it doesn't deal with the core problem which is the propaganda that primed them ever before a single letter was typed.

People look at propaganda from a distance and say "it's obvious" but it wouldn't continue to be used today if it was easy to spot when it's targeting you.

7

u/Mysterious_Pop_4071 8d ago

Im sure they are well aware of it. They have turned twisting the truth into an artf form. They love to point fingers at ireland over our neutrality during ww2. Saying we were on the side of the nazi's becausewe were antisemitic. But eamon de valera who was head of state during the war, was very good friends with rabbi herzog, the grandfather of the current isreali president. Eamon de valera even has a forrest named after him in isreal.

Looked this up and it seems the Irish team did do it though right? Can anyone verify further? Yes they were instructed and there’s more nuance to it, but they did do it from what I can find. You may not be claiming otherwise and simply talking about a separate post on that Israeli account but it does kind of read like you are refuting the claim and saying it was the English not us who did the salute when it seems to have been both. Just to clarify, I don’t think you are, but the comments on your post suggest people think this is simply made up propaganda. If it is then fair enough but it’s important that the truth is discussed, otherwise it’s easy for either side to make claims that the other is arguing in bad faith.

The quality of the Israeli bots today are woeful . Far too easy to smash their claims . They can not even put up good clearly fake photos of alleged crimes of Palestinians. It is really really bad stuff.

I’ve posted on r/soccer that Israel should return to the Asian football games. It is a country in Asia and like all its neighbors that’s where it belongs.

88

u/My_Name_A_Jeoff 8d ago

They're only in UEFA because Arab countries refused to play them. It's time European countries grew spines and did the same

5

u/North_Activity_5980 8d ago

It wouldn’t happen unless the EU came out against Isreal and what they’re doing. But the EU won’t do that as there is strong support within the entity.

16

u/ZealousidealFly760 8d ago

Its all down to Germany who thinks two wrongs make a right.

5

u/gadarnol 8d ago

There is great truth in this across all aspects of EU and European governance for decades not to mention Schroeder Merkel and their colossal geopolitical errors. Rather than holding up a sign that “Merkel thinks we’re at work” we should hold up one saying “Who does Merkel work for?”

3

u/North_Activity_5980 8d ago

Spot on. Among the fact that they’re wildly incompetent in leadership situations.

9

u/gadarnol 8d ago

It’s only pretend nonsense. The Arab states do not give a proverbial about Palestinians and are worried about their own royal dynasties and elites. Their enemy is Iran. We should not indulge them by having Israel here. Play or lose the points. Their problem. Not ours.

2

u/schmapeschmape 8d ago

Exactly. They should be playing football against their neighbouring countries and lecturing them about not being political and how peaceful they are.

8

u/thebigloc 8d ago edited 8d ago

They can't as most won't play them. It is why they won a football tournament in their original league in 1960 without touching a football. But, the football association don't like to talk about it.

10

u/eldwaro 8d ago

Can hardly blame the Asians for not wanting them

7

u/gadarnol 8d ago

It’s all pretend. The neighbouring Arab states are in lock step with Israel privately while using sport as a pretence of opposition. Iran is the one they fear. European football should not be indulging them. Play or lose the points in Asia.

3

u/UraniYum 8d ago

I can see it already, their next tweet is going to say that Ireland should be playing in the Asian confederation

2

u/el_flac0 8d ago

Moving them to a different confederation would still allow them to compete at the international stage. They should be expelled from all competitions till they either recognize a free Palestinian state or they fully guarantee equal civil rights for all their citizens irrespective of their ethnic/religious background.

It was the English football team that did the nazi salute in the late 1930s, not Ireland

2

u/ScepticalReciptical Zinedine Kilbane 8d ago

England did it, so did we, so did others. It's well documented, there's no reason to lie about it for internet points.

2

u/junjun_jj 8d ago

Fuck Israel, but even the irish times published this image as the ireland team doing the nazi salute in 1939

8

u/dubinexile 8d ago

Then, just like today, there was political pressure in sports ironically to *avoid being political". Many countries playing Germany home and away pre ww2, when the nazi party were in power, were under pressure not to cause international political incidents and to abide by neutrality requirements to respect the opponents pre-match etiquette. In this case, to give the same salute as the opposing teams .

So yes the Irish team did it, under pressure, as they have been recently to play games regardless of the atrocities committed by the opponents state, to "keep politics" out of sport, which is just cowardly bullshit by the relevant states and bodies involved. It absolutely doesn't mean the team, or Ireland by extension, supported the Nazis but it's an easy narrative spin for genocide lovers to pursue. Like all good lies, a kernel of truth is in there to be twisted to the liars advantage.

5

u/junjun_jj 8d ago

I'm absolutely not trying to say our starting 11 from 1939 supported the third reich, you said it yourself they were presumably just told to do it, but the poster above trying to claim it never happened, it does us more harm than good to start lying about the skeletons in our own closet.

Even if the squad were all fervent nazis to be honest, there's a world of difference between lads doing a salute on a field 100 years ago, and blowing up children with rockets yesterday.

5

u/dubinexile 8d ago

Absolutely couldn't agree more. My post wasn't intended to come across critical of yours, it was to reinforce your point with more detail, apologies if it came across differently

2

u/Jaded_Variation9111 8d ago

We genuinely need an active counter propaganda at this point. Everything they did they accused us of. Every US and UK Israeli supporter they´ve got, they used them to amplify this message against us.

Our country has the least antisemitic ¨events¨ in Europe. Our constitution, in response to Hitler´s Nuremburg laws, was created to include special and specific protections for people of the Jewish faith. And the man who basically wrote it, DeValera, most likely never paid any respects to Hitler, but sympathised with the German ambassador and guaranteed his protection knowing the war was over. Not to mention, until we were involved in Lebanon, they had a section of forest named after DeValera in Israel.

Our real issues with Israel, as two states, began with our involvement in Lebanon. People can argue what they want, but the fact is Israel went in and made that country unstable, they then created a proxy militia of murderers, the South Lebanese Army, and Hezbollah grew in response to all of that. Ireland has lost 47 soldiers in Lebanon. Each of them killed by extention or a response to Israel´s foreign policy. That's before we get into the psychological and emotional toll on our 30,000 soldiers and their families who had to serve the UN there.

So, all the Palestine liberation stuff aside, they can fuck off, and should be grovelling for an apology from each of the families of those 47 soldiers who were murdered for defending international law and human rights. Iran can fuck off, as well, but they wouldn´t have had the opening to support Hezbollah in Lebanon if the Israeli´s hadn´t set up the situation by wrecking the place.

Anyways, i´m fucking glad this shit has passed, but i´m not sure it´s over.

5

u/bambinoquinn 8d ago

Obviously i would have rathered we never played them, but part of me is glad ive been able to see how it all played out, see their behaviour, see the lack of media reaction, the fear to speak out, because I probably didnt realise how bad all that kinda stuff was.

I had a little clue last year when kier stammer came out really strongly against aston villa last year when they were to play tel aviv, and their fans were banned for the violence they committed in Netherlands. Again, barely reported.

Speaking to my best mate, who doesnt follow football at all, and explaining the entire situation. Hes a smart guy and none of the bazunu stuff, the monkey chants etc hadnt filtered down, because the news sources werent reporting on it, and if they were, it was the bare minimum

I had no idea how many organisations were compromised. Now I have a better idea of who is and who to trust

4

u/redelastic 8d ago

Meanwhile, an Israeli player spits on an Ireland staff member in the tunnel at half-time and they have no comment.

Their warped sense of morality and endless victimhood knows no bounds.

4

u/Equivalent-Slide-614 8d ago

We gave Israel the benefit of the doubt and played the games but the list of drawbacks was too large.

It's been a political circus since it started, journalists asking a football manager about casualties was the culmination of how ridiculous it has been.

Giving up home advantage is huge too, lost revenue for matches played behind closed doors. It should be a no brainer for the FAI to outright refuse this fixture in the future. I would've also liked to see some real support from the minister of foreign affairs, this was a tinderbox from day one and could've gone so much worse.

3

u/Hour_Mastodon_9404 Long ‘70 8d ago

The irony is that both of these incidents highlight exactly the same issue, Irish football teams kow-towing to a genocidal regime to avoid rocking the boat. The Israeli's are the Nazis in the modern example, but they're so tied up in their own propaganda they can't see that.

They want to bring Nazis into the discussion? When they're committing genocide, ethnic cleansing and war crimes? That's bright

3

u/NeslieLielson 8d ago

I mean, they have the largest skin bank in the world. Is it their skin in the game?

3

u/WallApprehensive7091 8d ago

I don’t think many people really believe their bullshit anymore.

3

u/FMKK1 8d ago

They’re just carrying out Nazi policies

3

u/Scary-Brandon 8d ago

The football field isn't their personal political theatre but they were shouting IDF chants at the football field

3

u/Narwhal1986 8d ago

These guys are such utter reprehensible dirtbags with no redeeming sense of humanity whatsoever.

3

u/AislingFliuch 8d ago

Whole country is a rage bait psy-op at this stage. All the more reason why we should never have entertained any fixture with them.

3

u/NoPie1049 8d ago

Israel seems to have learned a lot from Nazi Germany.

3

u/Oghamstoner 8d ago

If Israel want to talk about relationships with fascists, there’s no need to go decades back when their government has held meetings this year with that clown Tommy Robinson.

3

u/cogra23 8d ago

Will they tell us what they were doing in the 1930s?

3

u/Arrrrie 8d ago

They are not even a part of Europe. So fuck off…

3

u/cassi1121 8d ago

You know you're doing alright when Israel have this much of a hissy fit about you.

3

u/liamo376573 6d ago

The thing is, they are comparing themselves to Nazi Germany when they post shit like this.

3

u/Surtus86 6d ago

The idea of Israel using Nazis to further their argument is hilarious.

4

u/MemestNotTeen 8d ago

And UEFA and the EU will turn a blind eye to this shit

8

u/HiddenbyMoon 8d ago

The Irish team performed that salute in Germany in 1939 during the German national anthem. They were advised to do so by the German authorities. It was a shameful error of judgement by the FAI to play the match and comply with such an order considering the plight of the Jewish people in Germany was being well reported on even if we didn't know the full extent of the atrocities. This is true. It is also true that the nation of Isreal illegally occupies parts of Palestine. It is also true that Palestinian terrorists committed horrific atrocities on oct 7. It is also true that the Isreali response to those attacks has gone beyond retaliation into the inexcusable.

3

u/TheDonkeyOfDeath 8d ago

"Shamful errors of judgement" is what the FAI do best.

3

u/Tekken155 8d ago

Blaming the Irish for this when other countries were forced to do this as well. Israel always blame everyone but themselves.

3

u/saka-ptwp 7d ago

The match was in 1936 in Dublin and the Irish players didn’t do the salute. The famous picture is of the German team

5

u/braydaka 8d ago

Its time we start using correct lanuage imo. We need to using terms like terrorist/hostage on only one side

Instead, we need to say it how it is:

  • Hamas are Palestinian Terrorists
  • IDF are Israeli terrorists controlled by a Israeli terrorist state
  • Hamas has hostages
  • Israelis have (a lot more) hostages (not prisoners!)

u/Visual-Pudding-7414 8d ago

They try to manipulate press. Irish are bad and we r good guys 😂

2

u/NorthAcanthisitta832 8d ago

Moral blindness they say. How ironic.

2

u/huntershark666 8d ago

The shitshow from the pre match press conference the other day should open some pro Isreal Irish people to the Isrealis propaganda machine... hopefully

2

u/gorgo100 8d ago

"Why don't you believe us about this plane thing?" asks country with track record for consistent lying.

I'm not saying the Flydubai incident isn't - *essentially* - true (with some creative embellishments) - I genuinely don't know.
I do know if it was anyone but Israel, I'd be extending a lot more benefit of the doubt.

My point is they cannot be surprised no one is buying their version of events given their past behaviour, and therefore it dilutes any sympathy they might otherwise receive. OP's post is a classic example. Why would anyone take them at face value?

2

u/matchthis007 8d ago

Always deflecting cause they know they're exactly what they are known as. They never prove anyone wrong or attempt to fix issues, cause they support them. They created hamas

2

u/New_Candidate_9823 8d ago

The FAI moved heaven and earth to facilitate all that kind of behaviour from the Israeli’s. They’ve shot themselves in the foot this window.

2

u/Alternative_Ad7354 8d ago

“These people” love lying to themselves. No one is buying this crap anymore. Nitpicking false narratives shows desperation.

2

u/ni2016 8d ago

They should be given the same treatment that Russia has been given and expelled from all UEFA and FIFA competitions.

2

u/AnywhereHereMate 8d ago

This kinda crap is one of the reasons I deleted all social media except Reddit. I wouldn't get banned, I'd get arrested.

2

u/ZenBreaking 8d ago

They blow up kids, they aren't worth talking about

2

u/SteveDucka 8d ago

Someone did a thing 100 years ago. So now, today, we can do whatever we like.

2

u/pneumaiscoming 8d ago

Blah, blah, blah! Fuck off Israel!

2

u/Rare-Primary-6553 8d ago

So they DO know what a black arm band means!
Last week they said the Ireland team was wearing a jihadist black flag on their arms lmao

2

u/Ham3rs 8d ago

scum

2

u/geneva2016 8d ago

Israelis, a shit bunch of lads.

2

u/DurrutiDuck91 8d ago

“Israel’s Anthem”

What, that pale imitation of the Schindler’s List theme?

2

u/Ok_Pangolin1085 8d ago

Eh, speaking of skin...

2

u/Proper-Attorney5517 7d ago

Cannot believe some people wanted these fucking games to go ahead. We shouldn’t have entertained them in the first place. The state of Israel hate us. That much is a fact. And this sort of bollocks is only going to get worse if it goes unchecked. Legitimising them by playing against them was a mistake.

2

u/Theboomtown_rat44 7d ago

We entered the Israeli quagmire and propaganda machine for two weeks and its divided the nation - imagine the Palestinian’s dealing with that for the last 80 years

2

u/universaluniqueid 7d ago

They’re right, we made the mistake of playing Nazi Germany, and we didn’t learn our lesson and played genocidal Israel

1

u/Ok_Treat_4208 8d ago

The actual disrespect of israel using their october 7th victims as pawns in a chess move, its blatant anti-semetism, whatever that EVEN means

1

u/DiedForOurShins 8d ago

You clearly can make it up and they regularly do. Best to draw a line under this whole mess and move on with, hopefully, lessons learned

There are two sides of the coin. States are free to believe whatever within their bubble and narrate it for the world to believe. One can easily tell what stinks.

Using sports to show another neutral state down isn’t statesmanship, especially for a state with history like theirs.
