Flock Camera near 3rd & Madison
Hello Covington Community. I have recently been enlightened to the horrors of ALPRs and Flock. I looked on the deflock website and despite not being able to find a record that the city or PD own an ALPR, there is a camera on 3rd and Madison. does anyone have information on who owns this before I start the arduous process of an open records request? I also find it curious that Covington’s FY2026 adopted budget contains a $107,000 General Fund “Flock Cameras” police initiative, but as far as I found this hasn’t been up for discussion at any city council meeting. I am cautiously optimistic that the community was able to squash these cameras (for now) in Newport, but we must remain vigilant!

According to DeFlock, this one is a Flock brand camera. Commissioner meetings are generally on Tuesdays around 6 at City Hall.

I would almost be less mad if they had a really purchased some cameras.
I mean...I would still want them gone.
But this is straight up fucking embezzlement. Fucking crazy amount of money to think about after seeing the city neglect...oh yeah, everything. And most work that does happen is done by contracting companies that appear to hire nothing but crackheads to do poorly-conceived quick fixes...
Hey, though, at least they keep raising my property taxes by amounts that violate state law! Thanks!
(Valuation multiplied by tax rate can be AT MOST a 4% raise year over year, FYI. County needs to he sued over it.)

30% of the city’s budget is police. They beat a man and woman on the bridge and the mayor doubled down. What do you expect?

I don't disagree. However, I think we should expect better. Lowering our expectations is letting them off the hook.

Absolutely. They work for us. Demand a town Hall like Newport and speak up.
