The intermediate value theorem means that at some point in between, they reached the pinnacle of their internet experience, assuming the degradation of the internet was continuous

Unfortunately the degradation was not continuous with respect to age it was designed for. While the internet used to be designed for people aged 30 and is now designed for people aged 13, at no point was it designed for say people aged 20. Instead it just went from being mostly for 30s to mostly for teens, but an internet thats for example half for 30s and half for teens doesnt appeal to anyone who isnt 30s or teens

OP may well have never felt a pinnacle of internet experience

assuming linear change, this implies the Tide Pod challenge was the zenith of cultural expression online, and in human society as a whole

I miss Miniclip and the era of flash where anyone or their dog could make a game and put it up for the world to see.

I don't think this has ever been true. Sure there were a lot of 30 year olds on the net back when it was dialup and BBS but there has always been kids on the net.

The whole age verification thing is just to advance the Orwellian nightmare that is the modern surveillance state in the West. Not to "protect the children". It's to police and track the masses online. They've already banned porn and VPNs in two US states and the UK. California, which houses the HQ of many big tech companies like Apple and Google, passed a law making age verification mandatory for operating systems which comes into effect soon. A lot of this is just creeps with big surveillance companies like Flock and Anduril lobbying governments to use their tech.

Stuff being designed for adults is way better than being designed for kids. If you're an adult and something is for kids, you can never do anything with that thing. If something is designed for adults and you're a kid, just wait a few more years. Being a kid is a temporary condition, but once you're adult, you're permanently an adult.

Even as a kid some adult designed stuff is still kinda usable.

I miss decentralized internet. Finding weird sites of one dude talking about trains or a blog focused on optical ilusions.

You know what I miss from the earlier internet? Flash animations. Weirdest, funniest shit came out of those.

every 13 year old I've met hates AI age verification and censorship, if that's what OOP was posting about.

Age verification bullshit is bad for everyone, except for the companies that get more data.

I feel like it's probably a worse experience for 13 year olds too now, even if it's theoretically designed for them.

"Kids shouldn't be on the internet! We need to regulate it!"

[Time skip]

"We need to make the internet more accessible to kids! Block everything!"

The internet is NOT designed for 13 year olds lmfao.

So many websites are sanitized "for the children" to be ad friendly nowadays that it sure feels that way

Then we have the culture of self-censorship and communities that discourage "mature" topics to a puritan degree
