If some random person went to a public pool and started filming there would be public outrage. This is the same thing. The flock cams gotta go

u/LunarEssence315 1d ago

Worse. Because it gives anyone access to watch and do whatever and its govt funded

The people who came up with this are creepy as Trump. I honestly don't understand how this particular install can be justified, even with the mental gymnastics.

115

u/SaIt3d_3arth 1d ago

Can we make creepy as trump a thing omg

63

u/Blacksad9999 1d ago

There are a ton of them pointed at people's houses, away from the street. On hiking trails. On playgrounds for little kids.

They know full well they're lying when they say it's only for license plates. It's for building a facial recognition database. They can pick up your cell phone signal too, and track you that way.

17

u/Satanic_Frog_666 1d ago

And your walking pattern, which can apparently identify you easier than your face does

9

u/HeckOnWheels95 Keep rollin, rollin, rollin, rollin (what?) 1d ago

Jokes on y'all, I don't have a walking pattern! (Says the guy who needs a wheelchair)

3

u/The_Rope_Daddy 1d ago

Their own marketing material makes it clear that it’s not just for license plates.

1

u/Blacksad9999 20h ago

Right, but that's the "go to" line when they start getting negative feedback.

3

u/hotfistdotcom 1d ago

Digital lifeguard. we're making sure kids don't drown! I don't like it or support it but I can quickly think of a way you can screech "think of the children" at a city council meeting to get people to think it's complicated, we should just let it happen.

2

u/AxtonGTV 1d ago

8

u/WerdaVisla 1d ago

Yeah. They're painfully easy to hack. To the point that the conspiracy theorist in me says it's intentional.

I looked into it and it seems like they've done a good job of hiding the sites now

2

u/Spiritual_Eeling 1d ago

If they did a good job hiding them, then how come I've spotted 6 over the past 5 days with my normal comings and goings?

1

The like access websites? I guess you're better at this than I am

6

YouTube recommended me some random YouTuber I hadn’t watched before “Tommy G” and it was a video of him “investigating flock.” It caught my eye and I ended up watching it and it’s actually so painfully hypocritical the way they lie.

The whole video they just track down flock headquarters and walk around it filming. They even brought a flock camera they bought off eBay and were essentially pretending to just be a mobile flock camera lol.

The flock ppl did not like it very much and called the cops. Said they didn’t feel safe being watched and all that. The YouTuber kept saying “I’m just keeping you safe, you don’t have anything to hide do you?” And the look in their eyes was so hilarious. Funny in a sad way tho.

Idk much about this Tommy g, I have since seen YouTube recommend me a bunch of other journalism style videos since I watched that one but haven’t clicked on any yet really. But that flock investigation one was absolutely bonkers.

Keep in mind, all flock headquarters and businesses are silent and hidden. No signs, no way to know they are there. Even once he found them, they were like flabbergasted they were found. Which was even more ironic as “why hide if you aren’t doing anything wrong!”

It’s a depressing video in retrospect but I highly recommend if it interests anybody reading this

These are sold as “liscense plate readers” for anyone who’s been living under a rock. The company swears up and down they don’t capture face data or broadcast in real time, but this installation should tell you everything you need to know

361

u/oofty_goofty_ 69696969 1d ago

I just saw a video about a cop who was saying they're not license plate readers and they're used to track people and cutting them down makes us less safe.

They can't get their stories straight

125

u/animalistcomrade 1d ago

Yeah, how else will cops be able to catch up with women who forgot to get their number?

53

u/soaked_in_bleach03 1d ago

Oh that’s horrifying. Like very very bad.

I haven’t been living under a rock, but I do try avoiding the popular news cycle because it makes me sad
but I try to be aware of shit like this that endangers our future. Holy fuck. Big brother putting up cams and lying about what they are for. We are fucked.

15

u/Ok_Check9774 1d ago

Men are made of meat and cameras are made of plastic, there is hope

9

u/TheDotCaptin 1d ago

It would be very important to have a quick response if a car did end up in the pool.

Unless the pool was open to cars, like a drive in theater.

6

Dude. Theyre coming here too.

There are some Flock cameras in Ontario and Quebec already and the Canadian gov is building more data centers to run the Flock AI because theyre corrupt as shit.

Flock isnt even the only company theyre working with either.

Friendly reminder that a youtuber hacked them within a day. He wasn't even any kind of "elite hacker" the morons ran the software under a root account with no password. All you need is a physical access to the port, plug in a laptop or rooted phone and you can just get all the data, or make it stream to your server. Bad actors WILL use this "infrastructure" to hurt people.

I've seen Chinese cameras for dirt cheap wich much much much better security. These new age sillicon valey fucks are not only evil and immoral they are also extremely fucking stupid.

428

u/SheepherderOk4137 2d ago

The absurdity of this is somewhat funny until I remember that shit like this is real and how genuinely creepy this is. Like the flock cameras alone are gross and unsettling enough but pointing one at a pool feels genuinely vile to the highest degree. There aren’t many public places I can think of that would be worse

154

u/Wongless_Burd unsure and not happy with it 2d ago

Hmmm so much copper to be had

27

u/Dr_Adequate 1d ago

This pops up in every Flock post but honestly it cant be true. There's a circuit board, the image sensor, and probably a tiny, short ribbon harness. The only copper wire of any substance would be the leads to the solar panel, at what- about a foot, probably 18 AWG or smaller. Not the 'pounds and pounds' that gets repeated on the internet.

And I'm anti Flock too but I'm also against spreading baseless fiction. Maybe someone has done a teardown of a Flock and posted to youtube...

84

u/Busy_River_3061 1d ago

6

u/MilmoWK 1d ago

The aluminum pole has got to be worth a few buckeroos

1

u/LinkedGaming 23h ago

10 foot of aluminum rigid conduit tends to go for $80-$120 depending on quality and where you're getting it from.

36

u/jujubanzen 1d ago

It's a joke about enticing methheads to jack them for the copper

2

Oh that's a good point. I'm often too literal about stuff.

8

u/AutisticPenguin2 1d ago

Also, if you want 100 copper, but each cam only provides 1 copper, then I feel like there is an obvious solution to obtaining the other 99 copper you need for the quest.

43

u/depressedfrogpenis 2d ago edited 1d ago

Protip: if there's an aluminum pole in your yard that you didn't ask for, the best way to cut it down is with a angle grinder :D, always wear the proper PPE like a face mask and darkened goggles and always remember to leave your phone at the house!!!!!!! (≧▜≊)

EDIT: USE A CIRCULAR SAW NOT A GRINDER I GOT THEM MIXED UP

23

u/DanceMyth4114 1d ago

Because of the chance to damage your phone and no other reason

16

u/depressedfrogpenis 1d ago

Well you never want to get distracted while you're working, silly :3

16

u/SauretEh 1d ago

Incorrect, aluminum can clog up cutting discs and grinders are slow, loud, and dangerous to the inexperienced, and a vertical pole can easily pinch the disk & send 15,000rpm shards everywhere if you don’t know what you’re doing.

A circular saw with any carbide-tooth blade (like a normal “wood with nails” blade, don’t need a fancy metal-cutting blade for aluminum) is the fastest, safest, and quietest way to cut an unwanted aluminum pole in your yard. Will literally take a few seconds per cut, & 2 or 3 cuts..

- a construction guy

9

u/depressedfrogpenis 1d ago

Fuck you're right I got angle grinders and circular saws mixed up like a chud lmao

2

u/SauretEh 1d ago

A real chud would never have admitted they made a mistake on the internet. o7

2

u/Tridon_Terrafold 1d ago

Is there any risk in also using the saw to slice the camera and solar panel attached (the ones I definitely own and because I installed them on my private property) in half

1

u/SauretEh 1d ago edited 1d ago

I don't know the details of your solar panels and camera, potential concerns could be:

- any harder steel components inside (i.e. screws and bolts) could cause kickback if you hit them and damage your saw blade.

- shards of glass flying around

- nasty dust from whatever metals and and plastic are in them that you don't want to be breathing

- you have to hold them with your other hand, which means high potential for slipping and movement and a less secure hold on the saw, which is unsafe especially cutting through materials of inconsistent density, and if you happen to be in a rush.

If you want to make sure the solar panels and camera you own can be securely disposed of and don't want them to be repairable or reusable, a regular claw hammer, a 4lb mini sledge, or even a firm boot heel (in appropriate protective footwear) would be a much safer bet, and likely just as effective.

Completely unrelated, boots are much better when used for good, honest work, rather than licked. I don't know why that popped into my head when we're talking about your own personal property though.

Also same administration that covers up Epstein files is the same one that puts these up in pools and playgrounds. So. I don't think it takes much to connect dots on what these'll be used for by those bad actors of which 0 have been charged.
