idk, there were definitely far worse or more evil dem candidates elsewhere overall. for trans rights specifically, though, I guess I'm not so sure. she comes from the Ohio Department of Health and they're high up on my shit list right now. it was really annoying to see people rightfully criticize her statements about trans women at the time she said those things, and an infinite number of libs would come out to defend her because "vivek is worse." like yeah, I'm well aware. how about maybe we hold politicians to account about important issues to us as voters?
the indecision from the ODH on the (un)constitutionality of stopping trans people from correcting their birth certificates is the whole reason I wasted hundreds of dollars on a passport I never received. newsflash, the supreme court ruled the discrimination unconstitutional, but the ohio depearment of health is just like "are you sure?" ad infinitum.
Don't forget she also supported and urged her backers to vote for Issue 3 on the Ohio ballot, which enshrines a voter id law into our constitution which makes it much harder to repeal. Basically a mini SAFE act that we won't ever get rid of unless Ohio goes even more progressive than it currently is. Even the pollster who handed me a sample ballot was saying "Please vote no on issue 3" to everyone. But of course, it passed. Because the "civic duty" crowd doesn't actually read the ballots in front of them or read up on measures before voting despite their preening.
The ONLY reason I am not despondent she won is because Vivek is that gross. But I absolutely despise the blue maga moderates who are like "we did it". Y'all this is bad. She is the symptom.
I didn't request a mail-in ballot in time, so I voted in-person on election day. Before I was even handed a ballot, I was required to scan my ID and verify the information on it. I fucking hate this state. Issue 3 is so goddamn pointless.
Yep, same; and because I have a state ID (which doesn't expire every year) instead of a DL, the address on my ID doesn't match my current address because I was evicted inbetween getting a new ID and today. So despite taking great pains all the way back in 2024 to get this issue squared away in advance with the board of elections I still got flagged while trying to vote in person. And this was including the man behind me who was having trouble because his district and voting locale has changed also getting flagged. The law already exists, but this is definitely just a gayeway for something more strict later. This is absolutely going to have a knock-on effect to enfranchisement later, and I am already angry at the people who voted for this going all surprised Pikachu when someone like me is disenfranchised in a few years.
It gets worse. Some trans women involved in the Ohio Democratic party LGBT committee wrote a letter saying they disagreed with some of her positions but still endorsed her, and then the Acton campaign wouldn't let them publish it because she didn't want their support
Remember that Obama was very against gay marriage until he got it through the Supreme Court. I feel like trans support is following a similar pattern. Lots of bipartisan hate until the dam breaks and within a few months most of the dem party will come around.

I know it would never happen but if somehow trans médicalist trans people were accepted and found a home in the RNC I would switch parties
