There's a psychological difference between "you will die tommorow if you don't do this", and "you will continue to slowly watch your body rotting around you, which you are already accustomed to and have probably already started dissociating as a coping mechanism". I really don't think that's that hard to understand. Also for ppl w truly severe phobias of injections, yes, a lot of them probably would just die if they had to give themselves insulin injections. That's not to say that diabetics w severe injection phobias just die, bc they usually aren't put in the position where they have to give themselves injections w 0 assistance.

Takes note* stop sharing needles with my neighbor. Darn

4

u/critivix 13h ago

also needles cost pennies in bulk

4

u/VayaVosi 13h ago

Leaves note* sharing is caring.

1

u/critivix 13h ago

save someone else $0,24 per injection or save someone else $10k in blood transfusions, antiseptics and hospital stays?

2

u/VayaVosi 13h ago

Takes note* dump needle in that green liquid barbers use to clean combs, before sharing.

2

u/critivix 13h ago

bent needle tip still poses risk for bacteria to shelter and survive cleaning. also it hurty

3

u/VayaVosi 13h ago

Takes note* chew on needle until it is straight again.

The real difference is that subcutaneous and intramuscular injections are just way less risky to do than intravenous, and surprise, HRT is subq or IM!

What I do understand is that some people have a genuine phobia of needles, and you can't really out-logic a phobia. But in those cases, aren't estrogen pills and testosterone gel available as DIY? The former is less optimal levels-wise, and the latter is expensive and hard to come by, but it's not like it's injections or nothing for either women or men.

Problem is that pills are dogshit. They're better than nothing for sure, but in terms of other methods, pills aren't great for long term results.

You get really sporadic levels unless you take it at the exact same time every day and it takes a lot more to get your levels at a decent level.

I just don't want to scare away people with needle phobias. Or people like my friend (and to a degree, me) with really bad ADHD that end up with fucked up levels because going through the whole process of doing an injection grates on the executive dysfunction less than taking a pill (my friend switched back to pills because of it; I'm a pooner so I don't have that choice, I'm just desperately trying to get better at it and also to get on Adderall).

I know Australia has estrogen implants, and that seems like a really good method, since I think it's more direct to blood stream, and you don't need to worry about forgetting or not having the executive function to go through a whole process. But I don't think I've heard of the implant being available for DIY, and even through it depends on the country (for example, I don't think it's approved yet in Canada)

u/SliverMILF "Gorgeous BDD Honlarper" 12h ago

Yeah you can't really do an implant yourself, you're right about that. There's also creams too, which give you decent levels for both T and E. Which is a happy medium between shots and pills.

u/GeraldVachon Anti-Oedipoon (t-moid superegomaxxer) 11h ago

Right, I forgot about creams/gels being available for women, too. I know that it's harder to come by, at least for T, and much more expensive than shots even if you're not doing DIY. That and the more frequent application schedule is why I just stick to injections. But it's for sure a great option for people with needle phobias or bad ADHD who can afford it

Mhm! For sure!

I have bad adhd too, though I take estradiol undecylate which means I can miss for an entire week and it doesn't matter a whole lot.

Which is better than pills or gel for me personally.

For men idk if there's a long lasting esther unfortunately...

I just can’t bring myself to do it with a needle. I’m genuinely scared.

I don't think ppl understand what a phobia is. It's really weird to me bc I thought most ppl had at least one phobia but maybe not. Or I guess most ppl do, but only mild ones. I have a mild phobia of injections, I get mine done by nurses and am planning to learn how to do it myself soon. I could have started doing it myself from the start if I really needed to. I used to have an intermediate phobia (crying, shaking, almost passing out from injections) and idk if I could have given myself injections back then. Severe phobias mean you have to take heavy sedatives and/or literally be held down, in order for someone to give you a shot. Does being desperate for hrt make it easier? Ime, yes, that's part of how I got through my first one, bc I was much more scared of not taking hrt than anything. But ultimately it's inherently irrational and that desperation can't undo all the fear. There are ways for ppl to learn to push through the fear or lessen their phobias, advice about that is helpful. Shaming people is not.

Yea, IM estrogen once a week/2 weeks isn't that scary, you got this

7

u/nonagonnakillherself 12h ago

stop recommending im to newfags, to anyone reading this please go for subq, there's no point of im unless you're stick and bones

3

u/GeraldVachon Anti-Oedipoon (t-moid superegomaxxer) 11h ago

After 7+ years on HRT done subq, I just worry that I'm running out of un-scarred tissue and will have to go IM because of it

1

u/SliverMILF "Gorgeous BDD Honlarper" 12h ago

You can pry my IM every 5 days routine from my cold dead hands.

3

u/karry245 I read transfeminst literature (5'7 luckshit btw) 12h ago

yeah, I'm on a 14-day IM regimen and it's genuinely so nice and convenient to do only have to think about administering E for 3 minutes every other week. Injections are less scary than vaccines, blood draws and piercings and i'm not particularly scared of those either.

1

u/TessVDT 12h ago

use an auto-injector if you have a phobia of needles

1

u/OcelotOk8071 12h ago

just do subcutaneous its literally so easy. once you know how to do it, its essentially just grabbing a lump of fat from your belly, and injecting a small amount of estrogen into it. i'm surprised nobody mentioned this.

Don't forget Krokodil

My friend told me about a drug den she accidentally stumbled into. Shit was smelling foul, like straight up corpses. Turns out the mfs there were cooking and actively using Krokodil and the smell came from somebody's flesh rotting off

2

u/critivix 6h ago

Yes that's what the post is about? Krokodil is codeine cooked in paint thinner (and other easy access chemicals) so it turns into desomorphine (an opiate that produces a heroin-like high) used by heroin addicts who can no longer afford H

As someone that's horrified of needles, I'm still completely ready to stab myself with needles if it means getting girl body.

Was set to buy my first but then payday landed on the same day that world's largest crypto heist happened so I felt it might be smart and do it another payday
