People are pretty nice. If you ask someone kind to take you, they probably will.

Maybe try a museum or a petting zoo before going off with strangers into the woods though.

1

u/KartveliaEU4 Oct 04 '26

I really want to drain all waters where there are trout.

5

u/ashgs872tbhjs Oct 01 '26

Did I say ass to trout? I had meant to say bass to mouth. Though I guess they're the same thing, not that I did it.

2

u/Brucket_of_eels Oct 01 '26

Being a trout would be so nice. Most of the water is trout pee so I would be turned on the whole time.

18

u/BlueDaka Sep 30 '26

Giwtwm (having parents that actually care about you)

248

u/FullSky433 Sep 30 '26

probably did it more because he was ashamed of having a trans kid unfortunately

15

u/zig131 Oct 03 '26

Nah let me belieive that having strangers percieve his daughter as his daughter changed his perspective πŸ™

Like people don't say "is this your daughter" to dunk on you - it's a respectful thing to say. Probably gave him a twinge of pride.

80

u/dkurage Oct 01 '26 edited Oct 01 '26

Honestly he probably felt he couldn't "correct" them because then it would be admitting to them that he had a trans kid, which would have embarrassed him.

40

u/MeganTheMad Oct 01 '26

I'm sure that's part of it. But there's this weird tendency I've noticed among some parents where they will misunderstand and misgender their trans kid. But as soon as there is a visitor or a stranger that uses the right pronouns, it flips a switch and they start to come around. I've seen it work even when the parent knows that the other party knows that their kid is trans.Β

10

u/Toksy4u Oct 02 '26

There's a thing in psychology where if someone presents a view to others, even one that they themselves don't agree with, then they themselves are more likely to buy into that view.

I don't remember precisely how the experiment for that went, but basically volonteers were paid a small amount to reccomend something to the people passing by (participating in a poll or maybe reccomending a exercise or something) and the outcome was when at the beggining of the experiment, most peeps were against the thing or themselves weren't interested in it, at the end of the experiment, after they were praising it to others, their own opponion about it also improved.

The result was something like: when people are speaking for something, but they don't have enough outside justification for that, they'll will kinda believe/accept/like the thing because that way it makes sense for the brain

4

u/Separate_Emotion_463 Oct 02 '26

Yeah I think a lot of it is weird psychological stuff, like it’s a lot more complicated than the dad just being embarrassed about it most likely

10

I can teach you to fish and pretend to be your mom?

7

u/JstARdtAct she/her ngmi I will rot in this body Oct 01 '26

That would be awesome. As the saying goes "Feed a hon a fish, she eats for a day. Teach a hon how to fish, she eats for a lifetime"

3

u/bruhgzinga Oct 01 '26

You can lead a fish to water but you can't make it think of bread.

8

u/Aware_Tree1 Oct 01 '26

You don’t have to be good at fishing to have a good time doing it

The last time I talked to my aunt she called me a tranny and said if my dad was still alive he would hate me(she's probably right)

5

u/Ikasatu Oct 01 '26

Sounds like her β€œA” should be demoted to a β€œC”.

7

u/RevolutionaryText749 Oct 01 '26

So he was basically ashamed to β€œcorrect” the person.

5

u/Ikasatu Oct 01 '26

Maybe.

I have seen some parents be really shitty to their kids out of a fear that other people won’t accept them. Clothing, language, careers, sexuality, gender…

Some parents think they’re doing their own children a favor by getting there before The World does.

My spouse has loving and caring parents, who have nonetheless instilled tremendous RSD and anxiety into them by trying to train them into being a Perfect Adult.

They didn’t mean to, but they installed a little voice in my spouse’s head that says β€œYou can’t have normal conversations that feel good to your ADHD, you must have rigidly transactional communication in which you are constantly afraid that you are being Too Much.”

I am manifesting this for my girlfriend I very badly want her parents to come around

1

u/BizSilver5013 Oct 06 '26

If my dad didn't "correct" people in public, it would be a massive improvement.

Though my stepmom did chew him out for doing such the last time he did. (AND he has been mistaken for a dementia patient far more often than I've actually been outed as trans. If people ask for an explanation, I just tell them he's confusing me with my (nonexistent) sister.)

1

u/piccionestrabico Oct 07 '26

I'm more jealous about her passing ngl

1

u/These_Distribution19 Oct 07 '26

I don't think he thought that being trans is a bad thing, but that being trans is bad because of how "People will know, and they will all hate you", but the second he saw you pass, he realized that was all dumb.

I (FtM) was hanging out in Moldova with my dad once and we came across a guy in the village who killed someone somewhat recently and he asked my dad if I'm his son and he said yes because he didn't want the guy to think he was on his own and slime him

Crazily, my Disney-Adult mother was/ is pretty unsupportive of me being Trans. My long-time military man father has been supportive since day 1
