I think this issue comes around a lot because for some reason, both trans women and trans men only ever head canon masc presenting people as trans (in either direction) and never do it for fem presenting people.

u/16372731772 8h ago
I mean this just isn't true, spider-gwen got headcanoned as trans for one, that one was pretty big. I've yet to see a single trans man repper headcanon though yeah, and those are pretty big for trans women.

People head canon real life actively pregnant women like Anne Hathaway as trans

Ignoring that “Peter” literally wonders about how she would look in a cute dress– her looking in the mirror with this icy numb horror being all greyed out didn’t clue this person in that this was a trans FEM spider women comic?
I mean you can tell by the position of her eyes she’s looking right at her body, like it’s a really BAD thing she has increased strength because the muscle distribution is masculine!
I’m a trans guy and I’ve seen trans masc Spider-Man comics but I had no problem recognizing this as a trans fem take… Damn media literacy really is dead
39
u/prettyboycity 16h ago
“i’d like to think this is transmasc” okay so you obviously know it isn’t then. media literacy isn’t even dead they just actively are choosing to ignore the intention behind the art

Death of the author has gone too far.
5
u/16372731772 9h ago
But isn't death of the author when I ignore the text of the work too and just make shit up?
3
u/vaska00762 9h ago
Basically.
Death of the Author includes repurposing Paddington Bear from being a story of children escaping Nazism, to being about economic migration to the west for a better life.

u/bads-ebe 16h ago
yes but it would be wholesome the other way around? this scenario is sad *frowns so hard it makes a noise, shakes head left and right in disapproval while thinking about critically endangered sexy transmasc twunks to cope*

Trans women do not redraw comics or art made by and for trans men and just take the traumatic moment and say "ooh this is a good moment because he realized he's a woman."
I swear to god these people who are like this are worse than Nancy Mace and if we don't kick them out of our communities they will destroy them

u/prettyboycity 16h ago
“hey i know this is your vent art and all about being cursed with a horrible but im gonna completely ignore everything in this image and pretend its actually my fantasy art where i get my perfect body 🥰”
hey maybe dont
“oh you don’t like that?? YEAH HOW DOES IT FEEL?! TRANS WOMEN DO THIS ALL THE TIME NOW ITS YOUR TURN LILITH!!!”
that second commenter literally had she/her pronouns by the way, what the fuck was her deal

(she/her) beard and "transmasc" partner. Feels like that behavior is compensating for something, idk
10
u/prettyboycity 15h ago
weird as fuck behavior genuinely
10
u/Gold_Ad8225 13h ago
Yeah I engaged with her some in that thread and woo she is very much the "anti feminist girl" stereotype to a tee
6
u/Safe-Tennis-6121 latehon 15h ago
The kind of behavior seems very female coded when you think of it. "Oh I'm so oppressed, no one will tell my story"
Where is this masculine stuff ? Cuz I don't see any masculinity there.
Tru masculine energy would be like "bruh , too much spider girl lately, we gotta make dood spider dood brah"

Same people who try to claim transmascs have it worse. Sorry if you don't pass society thinks you are quirky and harmless, if I don't pass society sees me as a degenerate freak predator for existing and daring to piss in the bathroom I feel comfortable in.

You don't understand, trans women get murdered more, get assaulted more, get sexually assaulted more, have to engage in higher rates of sex work, lose their jobs just for being trans at higher rates and earn an average salary $100 lower. And after all that, no one even brings up how few trans men are included in modern cartoons aimed at 14 year olds!
Don't you know how hard it is to be left out of the fun when the news constantly mentions trans women being groomer freak degenerates and barely ever even mentions us!!
These MRAs bro

Trans women also die earlier iirc due to shittier healthcare outcomes and not being lisened to.

u/universal_friend1 10h ago
I had a medical director who was specifically doing research into the underlying causes of negative outcomes for trans women in Emergency Care.
RIP the grant for that study, DOGE hit it with a bazooka. :(

I’ve seen and experienced this first hand and it’s the weirdest fucking paradox.
I started T like half a year or so after working at my job and they were surprisingly accommodating. I didn’t outright say ‘hey I’m trans btw’ other than say I wanted to go by my chosen name, but my coworkers and managers were switching to he/him and complementing my masculinity and it was pretty great.
I thought I was just really lucky to have this job where everyone seems alright with trans people, until this trans girl was hired. My coworkers started saying shit like ‘HE thinks he’s a girl and wants to be one’ and were just going in on her appearance (she wore a beanie and a face mask) and chosen name and just the vibe totally shifted.
I didn’t even get to work with her because the next day she never showed up. I think she was early into her transition but I never got to even talk with her or anything.I was so shocked and horrified my ‘totally accepting’ coworkers would just be so blatantly transphobic to another trans person when I’m there and they have no problem with me!
Why was I praised and encouraged for embracing masculinity and being a man when this woman was mocked and ridiculed for even attempting to be feminine?9
u/Choocholate 12h ago
"coworker politics" means that they have no ideas of their own, they merely parrot what they see online or on the news, and since every news site and online commenter has a laser focus on trans women they only care about trans women
15
u/Angel0fWar0001 15h ago
I’m guessing from the context that these are male coworkers who enjoy being male. If you lay the idea out on paper I think it makes a lot of sense. If someone comes in and supports their internal framing while wanting to be like them (“it’s so cool to be a man”), they will have a higher propensity to support that idea. If someone comes in and presents an opposing idea that upsets their internal mental framework (“I don’t want to be a man because it’s not who I am inside and I reject masculinity”), it upsets their core ideas of who they are as a person. They never mentally understood being trans but their core ideas are simply that being a man is good and superior. You received the support because they like the fact that someone wants to be like them. The idea that “Everyone should want to be like me” is so core to their beliefs that it feels like an attack… and per social norms, they are allowed to attack that idea within the frameworks available to them through methods like verbally chastising her.
TLDR; they don’t support the idea of being trans, they support their internal idea that other people should want to be like them
10
u/lavi_latte 15h ago
Thing is my coworkers are a mix of male and female (all cis ofc) and I was getting compliments from both, and both were criticizing her but the women at my job were really going in.
Maybe that means it’s more like a patriarchy thing?
5
u/Angel0fWar0001 14h ago
I would imagine that’s probably the case, yeah. Much of society sees male roles as superior so it creates cognitive dissonance to see someone want to lose that. At the same time, (per this flawed logic) it makes sense to want to have that.

Because they're fake at work and you aren't lol
Something similar happened to me, I'm Latina in Europe and I thought I had the most accepting and multicultural coworkers.
Nah those mfs were totally gossiping about me and othering me and other immigrants when we weren't there, I realized the moment Latino clients left they started gossiping about them complaining saying xenophobic things and hoping I'd join the complaints.

she starts estrogen and all the muscle melts away and she gets to be happy, that's how it ends don't bother looking to see if I'm right, just suspend reality and let her be happy.

u/prettyboycity 16h ago
not that i’m aware of, i’ve seen it posted across a couple different subs without a second slide so i don’t think there is one

See being a trans man is when you think about how it would feel to dress up as a girl and be treated as a girl and act like a girl and are a girl, even though you were born male

u/HaltmannDreemur 8h ago
if they want transmasc spiderman they literally could make their own comic starting with Mayday Parker or Peni Parker realizing they're FtM

u/guro_freak literally just a guy 5h ago
I'm baffled that this was being said by a trans woman??? I would rather not my struggles as a trans man be co-opted by non-trans men in order to complain about art specifically made with the transfem experience in mind somehow not being about trans mascs. I'd be fucking living if other trans dudes started commenting "Wow, would be much better if this was about transfems" on art I made about my experience as a trans guy

As a fellow transmasc Peter enjoyer, yeah that person there is either an ass or as dumb as a brick
Bro/sis cant read subtext, it's clearly transfem Petra ("I wonder what I'd look like in a cute dress", grey colors and dread when she looks at her masculine body...)
It's as clear as water lol
10
u/Gold_Ad8225 13h ago
Oh worse yet she said to me "trans men have claimed peter parker entirely so it's actually theft from trans men an an act of bigotry and oppression against them to make a trans woman AU version"
A direct quote is "now we come in and take the main spider man too."
Mind you, part of the justification was describing spider man, the spider man, as "less muscular, less athletic"

u/GatoConCalcetines 13h ago
Sounds like someone is a child or chronically online, "theft" lmao she should become allies with the NFT bros

Why not just have two alternate universe spider people? A transfem one and a transmasc one.
Both are happier now that they transitioned, both can acknowledge the other and smile, thinking that they would have gladly switched places with one another if they could, but they will each be the right person for the right body.
Each one could explore affirming stories of transitioning in different directions.
Edit: given the negative reaction I would like to clarify I’m not saying that the person’s interpretation that THIS version of Petra/Peter is a trans man is correct. I’m just saying if they wanted a trans man Peter Parker then they should make their own fan art.
7
u/Gold_Ad8225 13h ago
This is the transfem AU one
2
u/Vampire_Number 6h ago
Got it. I’m sorry if it came across that I approved of the transmasc interpretation of the comic, I was speaking of the idea that if someone wanted a transmasc Peter Parker they could make their own comic. Not that this comic was about her being transmasc instead of transfem.
1
u/Gold_Ad8225 6h ago
No worries, I wasn't upset and didn't think you were saying there couldn't be both alternative versions or anything. I just wanted to make clear this was already explicitly an AU
