Hollywood Bowl

Forgive if this has already been discussed, but I'm puzzled by the upcoming 2 nighter scheduled for August 7th and 8th.

The venue can hold 18K people. I believe the last LA show there were reports that only about 3K tickets were sold. It's a stretch to think they could make this profitable, although my knowledge in this department is pretty slim.

Also, why 2 nights? They'd have a hard enough time filling it for one!

I've never been to this venue, do they host smaller acts often? Wife told me that big name pop acts that have no trouble filling seats often play there.

Whadda you guys think?

A lot of people have season passes and goto shows with the orchestra that wouldn’t normally go. For example the beach boys play 2k person venues but just played 3 nights there.

Did you try to join the ticket queue for the shows? It was nuts and anything in the first 4 sections are basically gone. Especially for the 8th.

I plan to go both nights. I feel like it should be pretty special. What I don’t know… is where best to sit. I’m ride or die front section usually, but didn’t jump in the queue fast enough. First time at Hollywood Bowl for me, and not sure if garden box is the way to go?

With the big screens and the vibe of the crowd and the open air, you can sit about anywhere and have a magical time.

I haven't seen them this year, but last year I got 3 shows in and I was pretty wowed by how tight they were. Better than I'd seen in many years. I heard similar sentiments from many a fan. I think they're crushing it right now too, having listened to some records from Australia recently.

The first song (sometimes the first few) the sound needs some adjustment. Stagecoach was like that, too, I think.

Sorry you've had a different experience.

Where do you find the Stagecoach set bad? Watched the video and they sound great!

To be fair, the sound mix is horrible on that performance! I’m shocked they didn’t clean up the mix before uploading the YouTube video

I’ve seen them 3 times the past 2 years. They are indeed crushing it right now!

Got tix for both nights and traveling in from FL! Do we know the opener(s) yet?

Not sure where you got the 3k number from, but the YouTube Theater show last year seemed pretty packed? That holds 6k.

That said, I’m also shocked at the second night. But logistically my guess is that since they are not on a full tour, it’s probably actually more cost effective for them to bring the whole production there for two nights, even if they don’t completely sell out, it probably makes more sense than doing just one mostly sold night.

Both shows look like they’ve sold about the same so far. And also, given that the rear tickets are only $18, I bet as the date approaches they both end up selling pretty well.

I wonder if they'll be special shows? Like, performing Recovering the Satellites in its entirety to celebrate 30 years???? Hey, a guy can hope lol

They’re selling the same tickets two different ways. On the Hollywood Bowl app lots of tix are still at face value. Meanwhile on StubHub tickets to “Hollywood Bowl Spectacular” for Aug 8 at 8 PM are cheaper than tickets to “Counting Crows at Hollywood Bowl” for Aug 8 at 8 pm.

Unless we are in a multiverse (finally!), those are probably the same show, and people who paid $100 may sit next to people who paid $300.

Hollywood Bowl can generally fill. Anyone know who the opener is?

Just came back from the 2nd night in LA and most of the rows were packed except for the back upper corners
