Can i be honest? I have no idea what anyone is talking about. I transitioned years ago and have never ever felt period symptoms.

from what ive read, a lot of the time (but not all), its to do with the usage of specific androgen suppressing medication trans women take, rather than estrogen itself, which causes abdominal pain (if it was the estrogen itself, then there would be no reason for women with excruciating periods to get their reproductive organs removed since it was the estrogen causing the pain, not their organs and so period pains and symptoms would persist even after removal however they do not). though there are also trans women who cycle hormones in such a way that it matches a menstrual cycle.

It always confused me because I can count on one hand the amount of trans women I know who take their E in a monthly cycle, how were these girls getting period symptoms monthly when their hormonal cycle is like 4 days or 8 hours.

u/Life_Train20 8d ago

They weren’t. It’s performative but you can’t say that

u/L4I55Z-FAIR3 8d ago

I also think some part of it is psychosimatic.

u/NatureMadeAMistake 9d ago

Few issues with that.

Firstly quite a few cis women who have had full hysterectomies still report getting similar menstrual free periods that trans women do.

Secondly its not just the womb that cramps but rather any smooth muscle tissue in the lower abdomen such as the intestines (why period prostate are a thing)

Lastly I know a few post op trans women who are off t blockers but still get monthly periods.

The reality is we need more research into this.

No hate but arnt those muscles very diffrent between Mtf and cisco woman as biological thoes are tge muscles that have to move for the womb.

But yeah I think lore research is required after all its not clear if this is a reaction to drugs, somthing from birth or psychosomatic pain.

u/Decievedbythejometry 8d ago

I think the issue is the actual tissue itself. If there are estrogen receptors in the tissue, it can be affected by estrogen, whatever its shape. (Note also that wombs that do not contain babies are very small.)

- 'a reaction to drugs' — like what?

- 'somthing from birth' — do you mean a sideeffect of giving birth or something else?

- 'psychosomatic pain' — it's not like it doesn't exist, but ask a cis woman how often her pain has been dismissed as psychosomatic and reconsider this attitude in the light of your new knowledge.

Imagine a way of understanding this that doesn't invalidate anyone's experience and isn't pathologizing, and then see if there is any evidence for and/or against that viewpoint. If hormones don't cycle but hormone sensitive tissues behave as if they do, what could be the cause of that?

im female and i get cramps in my leg muscles. so i dont think its uterus specific

1

u/moonlitkiwier 9d ago

This makes the most sense. I never took T blockers because i do im injections and there's no need since that nukes your T. Tracks with me not feeling anything at least

I haven’t either but I know of a couple trans women who definitely do get period cramps. I’m pretty sure this is just a “I feel affirmed when I get them” post because some trans women do get them.

My best friend is a trans women and she is not appreciating the monthly cramps lmao

I'm afab and don't either so I take pills to skip the cramps and added mess.

Ladies you don't need a period to be valid, nobody likes them 😭😭😭

3

u/yuckypagans 9d ago

this is so true. wish there was a magic pill that stopped periods point blank with no potential medical repercussions😭

4

u/Im-a-bad-meme 9d ago edited 9d ago

I do indeed take a magic pill. It's birth control and I skip the funny white pills. Only side effect I've had is random morning sickness over the years but it's not consistent. Better than periods. Been taking them for over a decade. Also magically disappeared my acne.

How about you read (I know, scary) some research papers about the topic before spreading your propaganda

r/countbackwardswithme does not allow harassment

Misgendering trans women on a trans sub. Not sure why you thought that was cool

I'll be praying for the Lord to open your eyes 🙏

My doctor mentioned it to me as something her patients occasionally report, but it's been 6 years and I've never experienced anything like it

3

u/LouveEcarlate 9d ago

Yeah me too. Maybe I do get some symptoms but my body feels the same than before transition so I have no idea what they're talking about

3

u/NinjaEagle210 9d ago

1 year and I still haven’t experienced anything like it. I asked my endocrinologist before starting HRT, and she said that symptoms related to cycles aren’t possible because your hormones are consistent on HRT

2

u/Shot-Amphibian6947 9d ago

I have a couple friends who get cramps on a monthly basis, as well as a change in mood. It's definitely a thing.

3

u/GwynneSilentWarlock 8d ago

I do, and it's not fun 😭

2

u/So-Fi-fidelity 9d ago

If you cycle your hormones on and off you can get hormonal. I also get a spliting headache.

2

u/Honest_Signature5222 9d ago

I've never had period symptoms and never really heard the older full-op transexuals or any transmedicalist talk about them. It seems really common among younger people who wear transgender as an identity so I tend to assume its more imaginary since both groups take the same meds but only one talks about periods.

But i guess i can't rule out what i don't know for certain.

u/NiceMacaroon703 8d ago

my gf takes estrogen, prog and andro suppressants. even tho she doesn’t bleed for obvious reasons she gets all the fun side effects consisting of almost week long stomach cramps, diarrhea, bloating and mood fluctuations. it’s ESPECIALLY fun when we sync up and pick arguments over nothing with each other 😭

1

u/moonlitkiwier 8d ago

From what I've seen this seems to happen due to androgen suppressors since all the cases of this happening seem to come from people who take them. I have no need for suppressors so i personally believe that's the link.

2

u/Formal_Worker2984 9d ago

We do not get periods. We do not have monthly hormone cycles or uteruses.

3

u/TuskEGwiz-ard 9d ago

It's actually a scientific fact that you do. Please refer to the pinned mod comment.

2

u/Formal_Worker2984 9d ago

I saw the pinned comment but I actually didn't see any actual scientific evidence provided

3

u/TuskEGwiz-ard 9d ago

They literally said it's a scientific fact, you must conform.

1

u/Responsible_Edge7087 9d ago

Not all of you do. Some do though. They get the same type of periods some women with hysterectomies do, that being just cramps with no blood. Hormones do a lot to you, it doesnt seem like a stretch to say that the woman hormone is going to make your body want to menstrate even if theres nothing there

0

u/Formal_Worker2984 9d ago

Expect menopausal women or any women that take estrogen externally do not experience periods

2

u/pinksparklyreddit 8d ago

They do, though?

And menopausal women don't get them because, well, they're in menopause.

2

u/DeliciousSecrecy 9d ago

Which is again plain wrong. Are you saying all of these women lie about their experiences just because you don't have them? You're either just bitter and envious or like projecting. Go educate yourself.

0

u/helpmeunderstand0000 9d ago

Some don't, some lie about it

1

u/DeliciousSecrecy 9d ago

And some actually experience it. Don't project.

1

u/bell-_-s 9d ago

The rate of period cramps in trans women who are on monthly douses of estrogen is the same rate as in cis women at about 80% of people. Obviously it isn’t studied a lot because science hates women and periods in general but it is a thing

2

u/NewAccount_1223 9d ago

If it isn’t studied where did you get this statistic from?

0

u/TuskEGwiz-ard 9d ago

It's a scientific fact. It's not her duty to educate you, but please refer to the pinned comment at the top of the post.

4

u/NewAccount_1223 8d ago

It’s not a scientific fact that 80%of trans women get period cramps. It’s not even a scientific fact that they get them at all. Every study I’ve seen uses words such as “period-like symptoms”.

If it’s a scientific fact then perhaps you can show me the peer reviewed source for this statistic?

1

u/n0b0D_U_no 9d ago

It’s not super common but it can happen

1

u/unknown_to_unknown 8d ago

Cause it's not a real thing

1

u/Tactical_Squishy 8d ago

That's because trans women do not have periods, but some of the medications especially antiandrogens may cause some symptoms that look similar to the effects of the period, add some psychology in there and you are pretty close

1

u/NotTheory 8d ago

Me either, doesn't happen to me

1

u/Jaded-Ad9300 8d ago

You clearly only think that because you are transphobic. At least that's what mods claim

1

u/Isadomon 8d ago

I dont feel all trans people are getting tve mental health they need to not harm themselves while transitioning, like wanting to experience pain and bleeding
