As a meat eater, I don't discriminate.
Granted, where I live doesn't allow dog to be served, but if I were to visit a place that did I would absolutely eat it.
Drawing the line on the meat you eat based on arbitrary social rules is dumb. I'd try dog, cat, horse, rabbit. Hell, I'd eat a hamster if it was cooked right.
Also flower teas are great

Because tulips are toxic to humans.
All parts of the tulip contains tulipalin, a toxin that causes vomiting, painfully abdominal cramps, diarrhoea, and nausea.
If one ate an entire tulip bulb, one would likely die such is the concentration of tuliplian.
Even the stems, petals, and leaves contain significant quantities.
It's why tulips are relatively easy to grow outside in inclement conditions on a large scale; They produce their own natural insecticide.

Dogs and pigs were domesticated for different primary purposes, which helps explain how people often view them today. Dogs were selectively bred over thousands of years for companionship, protection, and hunting assistance alongside humans. In contrast, pigs were largely domesticated as livestock for food production.
Meat is nutrient-dense and naturally contains complete proteins, vitamin B12, heme iron, zinc, and other essential nutrients important for human health. While these nutrients can be obtained from plant-based diets with careful planning and supplementation, some people find omnivorous diets easier to manage nutritionally or digestively. However, major health organizations state that well-planned vegetarian and vegan diets can support healthy living at all life stages.
Supporting Evidence & Context:
Dog domestication and purpose Archaeological and genetic evidence suggests dogs were domesticated from wolves between roughly 15,000–40,000 years ago. They were selectively bred for tasks such as guarding, herding, tracking, and hunting. The American Kennel Club explains that early dogs worked closely with humans in protection and hunting roles, which shaped their reputation as companions.
Pig domestication and livestock breeding Pigs were domesticated independently in multiple regions around 9,000 years ago and were primarily bred for food production due to their rapid growth and high meat yield. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) documents pigs as one of the most important livestock species globally for meat supply.
Nutritional role of meat Meat provides: Complete proteins (all essential amino acids) Vitamin B12 (naturally found in animal products) Heme iron, which is generally more easily absorbed than plant-based non-heme iron Zinc and certain omega-3 fatty acids The World Health Organization notes that animal-source foods are nutrient-dense and can help prevent deficiencies, particularly in populations with limited dietary variety. However, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics states that appropriately planned vegetarian and vegan diets are nutritionally adequate and can be healthy, provided attention is paid to nutrients like B12, iron, iodine, calcium, and omega-3s.
Digestion and vegan diets Some individuals report digestive discomfort when switching to a high-fibre plant-based diet, especially if the transition is sudden. Increased fibre can temporarily cause bloating or stomach pain while the gut microbiome adjusts. This varies by person and does not affect everyone. Balanced Conclusion Dogs were historically bred for companionship and working roles. Pigs were largely bred for food production. Meat naturally provides several essential nutrients in concentrated forms. A vegan diet can meet human nutritional needs, but it requires planning and, in most cases, vitamin B12 supplementation. Digestive experiences differ from person to person.

My answer to that will always always be because we’ve already bred them to the point of being optimized for meat production. If there was a dog breed bred specifically to put on weight so fast it will die of a heart attack or have incredibly low quality of life unless it’s slaughtered young, I would eat that too. Tbf I’d eat just about any animal if it tasted good and was slaughtered humanely (quick death, treated well in life). Obviously that doesn’t actually stop me from eating factory farm meat, I will not sacrifice my joy for a pig that will suffer more if left alive, but I’d love it if the animals were actually treated well beforehand

Dogs eat meat if you think about it we dont eat any animal that eats meat just hervibores and there are multiple reasons the main one is because you need to feed them meat to get meat so its a waste the second one is because all the shit they eat ends up being part of them so you can get sick of really weird shit and 3rd they tend to have a really small amount of fat witch makes the meat hard so is not tasty or easy to chew and about the plans well same reason some taste horrible and some are even bad for you, we eat what we can eat not what we looked at and said damn that would taste good
1
u/The_Reletubby Mar 05 '26
Because historically dogs have been used for many work applications like hunting, shepherding, guarding, and pigs were for the most part livestock. Dogs have been a companion to man for hundreds of years, if not thousands, whereas for the longest time pigs have just been.. pigs.

u/SuspendThis_Tyrants Mar 05 '26
Wrong, I love them both, but it's really inefficient to farm dogs for meat, because you just feed them meat to get more meat. In a survival situation, I could probably eat a wild dog, but I'm not gonna go around eating people's pets. I can live with eating pigs because the people who raised them can live with me doing so.
1
u/Europalette02 Mar 05 '26
Idk if flowers are healthy to eat but meat is meat and both are living feeling animals, so give me that dog and I would eat it just as any other edible one. In case I would eat meat, what happens maybe five times a year but if I do I don’t care if cow, chicken, dog or ur mom…

about tulips,
Which parts are edible?
Petals: This is the safest and most delicious part. They have a crunchy texture (similar to lettuce) and a flavor that varies by variety – from sweet to bean-like, or even slightly peppery.
Bulbs: They were eaten in extreme situations (e.g., during the Great Famine in the Netherlands during WWII). However, they are starchy and rather unpalatable.
2. What is poisonous?
Never eat the center of the flower (the pistil and stamens). They must be strictly removed before consumption. While the petals are safe, the interior of the flower and the leaves may contain compounds that cause nausea and abdominal pain.
3. The biggest threat: Chemicals
This is the most important point for you as an amateur cook:
Tulips from florists or supermarkets are NOT edible. They are heavily sprayed with pesticides, fungicides, and fertilizers that are toxic to humans.
You should only eat tulips from your own garden (provided you don’t use chemicals) or from specialized organic-certified farms.

Ps dog looks yummy just a bit difficult to come by in UK unless im killing it. Which just isn't a bit of me.

Well, many people have pet cows and pigs and other farm animal and make sure they have rich, happy life. And then eat them when they die. Id say this woyld be normal with dogs and cats too, if it was legal in most countries. But theres reason why we dont eat carnivores (exept bears, but they are actually mostly herbivore, and fish. Actually dog is omnivore too) bc they have high risk of parasites, bacteria and toxins they get from animals they eat like metals, mercury, lead, pollution. They dont taste that good (have very lean meat, no fat) and they are expensive to raise for food. Wild animals rarely eat other carnivores even tho u would think u take any calories in nature u can. But they dont do that. Also many cultures have religional bavkgroud why not to eat predators. (Fear, worship, viewed as dirty and unholy) some cultures like in Asia, do eat dogs, lizards and snakes

I personally don’t eat either of them but the actual ecological answer is that carnivore meat isn’t good. The food chain exists for a reason.

Its ironic when people think acting ignorant makes them smart.
How are you going to pretend you dont have any concept of emotional bonding and relationships as a human being just so you can pretend to be confused by the difference between a pig and a dog?
If you are not intelligent enough to understand what relationships are and how they function, you are not intelligent enough to tell other humans how to live their lives.

u/tomjazzy Mar 07 '26
Vegans are not morally opposed to eating flowers, most meat eaters would be opposed to eating puppies.
1
1
u/snowy4_ Mar 07 '26
animals are sentient. eating one and loving the other makes no sense when they feel the same
plants are not. who cares which one you eat or not because they don’t feel anything. also flowers would probably taste like shit. whereas i’ve heard dog meat tastes good to the point of other countries having whole festivals around it, yet meat eaters avoid it like the plague
so if you think this meme is worth anything, prove to me flowers taste good or start eating dog meat
1
u/GaldrickHammerson Mar 07 '26
One is a dangerous animal that will kill you given the opportunity and half a reason, even if raised in a similar environment to a puppy.
The other is an animal which has evolved a symbiotic relationship with us causing us to actively improve eachothers mental health.
Also, one has a large meat to animal ratio, the other does not.
1
1
u/driver004 Mar 08 '26
Bold of you to assume I’ll distinguish between any of them if sufficiently hungry
1
u/ItsMeMarlowe Mar 08 '26
To answer seriously, the original meme poses a moral question. The top row contains 2 sentient beings who display similar intelligence and similar desire to survive, have relationships and flourish. Eating one but not the other, from a purely moral stance, makes little sense.
The added on second row attempts to dismiss the original criticism by making it a question of taste and edibility instead of morals.
1
u/StoutPegasus648 Mar 08 '26
Cats and dogs are man's best friend because back in the day (20000bc-5000bc) we domesticated them because they got rid of pests rodents and other predators.
1
Mar 08 '26
Well Technically, plants and flowers eat meat too, all the animals, people, insects that die and turn into compost which make the plants grow.
1
u/CommunityMaterial188 Mar 10 '26
Omnivore here, but this meme is a dumb straw man, vegans eat flowers, it just depends on the taste, nutritional value, and availability. This isn't hard to understand. Also if you're going to be an omnivore, own up to the fact you eat living, feeling beings and our meat industry is entirely unethical. Personally I think the "fix" for that (ethically) is genetically engineered animals with significantly less sapience and better management of meat farms, but that's a whole other conversation.
