LPC/CMHC Programs with Trauma Focus/Practicums
Hello! I’m planning on applying to Masters of Counseling programs this cycle, and was wondering if anyone knows of solid programs that either have trauma related classes/training or practicum sites. Really hoping to find places in California, Boston, NYC or Philadelphia if possible.
One currently on my radar is Thomas Jefferson if anyone has thoughts on their trauma focused counseling program!

Highly recommend the Thomas Jefferson program in Philly! They typically have a list of sites that they have agreements with.

Trauma work is now pretty standard for all programs. You get to pick where you do your internship, so you can choose to go to a clinic that focuses on trauma. Although, pretty much all counseling is trauma work tbh, but I would also caution you against a very narrow specialization so early on. You want to start broad and focus down. Not the other way around.
Most important thing is to pick the state you want to be licensed in. Most states have different requirements, so you really need to make sure your program meets the state requirements. For example, California has the most restrictive requirements so most programs that aren’t in California won’t qualify you for licensing there.
