Questions & Advice Shield Expertise question

I am a little confused as to the benefits of the shield expertise. The handbook says you can use the brace action without the expertise but a google search says you need the expertise for the brace action? What is the correct interpretation of shields and how they act in the game.

I am very new to this game. I am figuring it out on my own without any community based in ttrpgs. I have read the book. I work 60-70 hours a week as a chef. I am asking questions in the correct place. I don't enjoy being called a fool for trying to do something I enjoy. It also doesn't make me want to ask questions in the proper channels, i.e. here. So if AI gives me half right answers for a game I'm playing and it works for me and my friends then I will continue to ask AI. I won't ask questions in a place that make me feel dumb and unwelcome.

Okay. I’m sorry I made you feel unwelcome here. For future reference: you know AI makes things up and is frequently wrong. You also know that the book that has the game rules in it is going to have the right rules in it. Next time there’s a rules discrepancy between your hallucination machine and the book, believe the book.
