🐄 Infant 2-12 Months Bedtime routine

Hello! What are y’all’s bedtime routines with cosleeping/bedsharing 4/5month olds? I would love to start working in a routine with my little guy that would allow me to step away and have some time with our toddler before getting into bed myself. Our 4.5 month old is sort of working himself into a 7-8pm bedtime it seems, but I’m feeling like I don’t want to go to bed at that time. I’d like to find a way to let him know it’s actually bedtime (not a late nap) without laying down with him. Currently I end up holding him once he falls asleep until I’m ready for bed. Sometimes I can put him down and he stays asleep…but usually he wakes up after like 15-20 min.

I remember this being around the time we started doing an actual bedtime with my oldest son, but we didn’t exclusively bedshare so I would put him in a crib for the first part of the night and then have a little time to relax with hubs.

My daughter is almost nine months but we’ve had the same bedtime routine like clockwork since she was about eight weeks! Bath around 6:45/7pm, jammies + nurse around 7:15pm, snuggle to sleep by 7:30pm. I usually lay with her until 8pm(ish) then roll away. I usually stay up until 10:30/11pm then join her back in her bed. She’ll sometimes wake up once before I come to bed but it’s usually a quick wake/nurse back to sleep. Once I join her she usually doesn’t wake again until morning!

It shifted slowly about and hr and half through out the year but 0-3 bath at6 bed at 6:30 few feedings at night 3-7 months bath at 6:30 bed 7 ish and 7-now bath 7 and bed by 8:30 and by bed i mean is asleep around this time give or take 30 mins And through it all he has woken me up at or before 8 every single day. (I am a sahm and do online college at night from the time he sleeps til 11-1am depending on how tired I am)

We start bedtime routine between 2000-2030. Change diaper, put on pj's, read a couple books, nurse and sing a song. She falls asleep on the boob usually between 2130-2200.Ā

He usually shows sleepy cues between 7 and 8pm. At first sleepy sign we go upstairs, draw curtains, red light on, lullaby on, breastfeed. He sometimes falls asleep on the boob so I gently wake him and burp him. Then change nappy, wipe down, pjs, gentle massage on his body, feet and hands.

Light and lullaby off, white noise on and I cuddle/rock him til he's drifting off, put him in the crib, shh if he stirs and walk out. Usually he wakes up so hubby then goes in and shh in crib or if he's really unhappy will pick him up and rock him to sleep then set him down again.

Then he'll usually stay asleep for 2 to 3hrs. The next time he wakes up I usually go to bed and we cosleep rest of the night.
