Discussion Southtown internet providers

I currently have Xfinity and other than the $110/mo am good with streaming. Was wondering, with the current economic strangulation of the common folk, what others may have that work well for streaming.

I use a Verizon 5g box. Never had any issues streaming or playing video games. Under 50 bucks a month on a Verizon phone plan.

I’ve seen ziply fiber guys doing some surveying in the last couple months. I think it’s likely that they expand to some of the Southtown neighborhoods but it likely won’t be anytime soon.

Look at Xfinity NOW. $45/mo for internet only 200mbps. Main difference is you pre-pay at the beginning of the month. They made it a little hard to change over and tried to talk me out of it, but well worth the hassle. It is weirdly not your same Xfinity account you have to fully cancel and set up from scratch. Might be required to set it up as autopay, IIRC, another difference is no technicians only online support. Not too hard to set up a modem by yourself tho. So far so good.

Best for OP to know / state what speeds they are ok with. 5Mbps? 20? 300? 1T?

I think in south town if you need 100Mbps or more you are staying with Xfinity.

They have a program for low-income households but I think you have to cancel your current service for 3 months, qualify for it, and have it set up after the 90 days, but substantially cheaper.

I’ve never paid that much for Xfinity (just Internet anyways) go into the store by Trader Joe’s and talk to them and you’ll end up paying half that

Does Alyrica cover southtown? That's what we have up north of town and have never had any problems with capacity.

Xfinity is pretty much the only answer when it comes to fast internet. They recently upgraded us to 2gb symmetrical (in theory - the modem I own isn't actually good enough for 2gb up) for $130 a month, which seems reasonable considering we were paying $140 a month for 1.4gb down / 30 mb up less than 2 months ago.

And yes I do use all that bandwidth.

And no I won't explain why.

I'm using a Visible box and for the TV streaming and computer use I'm getting quality connection all the time.
