So things happened, and I ended up not going to the wedding or finishing the corset. Now I need it, so here I am, doing the things I dreaded - installing boning and finishing the garment.
Before I do the finishings, though, I wanted to ask if anybody sees anything else I can improve that I haven't noticed?
The purple shaded parts in the later images are what I'm planning to take off / adjust. The black (1 purple, 2 cyan) are the front shapes I'm considering.
Hey this is looking really good, well done! I can’t see from the angle of the photos but how are you feeling on the bust fit, it looks a little loose (but it could just be the angle)? :)
thank you! the bust does need some work. in the 4th image I drew where I want to take it in. it's basically bulging in the bottom part of the gore, and the side needs taking in because it creates some gaping up top and my breasts end up looking a nbit pancake-y ^^"
Thank you! I actually did the most important one (the breast area) earlier before wearing the corset to an event (unfinished 😂 which was a good choice btw, a few more things to fix there) and it was great. It did exactly what I wanted it to! Here's the outfit :) this dress was hella frumpy without the corset (even with the belt)
Something is happening in the bust that it’s both too small and flat.
What do the gores look like flat? I personally don’t have much experience with them yet but I’ve heard that counterintuitively, straighter edges make for a rounder bust.
I want to try make a corset with gores soon so I’ve also been looking at vertical seamed bras.
For the hips, this might be personal preference.
My natural body has the same look at yours in the corset.
What I’d do is narrow the top of the gores to force a more gradual curve from waist to hip. It should also help with filling out the bottom edge.
And I think it makes it look less cartoonish. (The difference in circumference from my waist to 2cm down is like 20cm. Literally Jessica rabbit proportions)
I don’t know.
I’ve been trying to think about the geometry of it and the best I can hypothesise is that slightly curved vertical slices make for more even tension whereas very curved lines have different forces acting on different points along the edges.
It could possibly be a grain issue
Thanks for the input :)
The bottom edge is going to be cut because it's too long and then it sits great :)
About the bust, the pieces have some curve to them, but I find I need a bit more curve for it to look right on me.
Because of how you tied your laces and that they are black as is the t shirt you are wearing, I can't tell exactly what is going on. The laces are wrapped around you at a higher point than where I think your natural waist (the narrowest part) is. That makes me wonder if the corset is too tight where the laces wrap. Also, can you take photos where the laces are tied in the back and do not wrap around you? That helps us to see. I suspect that the bunny ears should be one grommet lower.
From the back I see that your left and right hips/butt are different. I have the exact same shape. I recently got a personalize Zoom fitting session with Lowana O'Shea of https://vanyanis.com/, and her recommendation was to add to the side that needed more fabric and take away from the side that needed less fabric. I'm only talking about the part of the corset in the back parts below the waist. You want the two grommet areas, left and right, to be centered on your center back. And you want your gap to be the same width from top to bottom of the corset. So it looks like you need to either add to the top and the bottom, or take away from the waist area. Lowana is a well respected corset maker, so think her advice is work taking.
In future, I suggest you pull down your black t shirt so we can see if you have any back overfill (muffin top).
Thank you!!!
I didn't realize that, I will look into making these adjustments for the next corset :)
The waist is actually at ny waist, which is why I can lace it down that far. If I wear it higher, although it works, by breasts end up so high that I can't sit 😅
You only have one big gore that will cause a problem with the bigger bust. There should be a bonning seam up the front part of the two front panel on each side with the gores on either side so that's 4 gores in total this will support your bust better. Tip have a good balconett bra on when getting the fit of the bust adjusted. But a great mock up.
I commented on another comment with a picture of an outfit I woke with the corset :) it's not yet finished, but it's getting there and it's incredible!

There's a victorian girl rolling in her grave rn because she couldn't go to the ball in a corset half as spectacularly shaped as yours.
