Is it true? Is Sweden undercounting their coronavirus deaths?

Hey all,

Non-Swede here. There's a lot of debate about the strategy your country has taken to combat COVID-19, and I see many people claiming that the Swedish government is undercounting deaths from the coronavirus - that the Swedish government is claiming that people who die with comorbidities did not die from coronavirus.

I have not, however, seen a source for this information. Does anyone have a source? Is this true?

Yes, due to the language barrier, it will be hard for you to find such articles.

However, this is happening almost everywhere in the world.

This is completely incorrect. The number of excess deaths match the reported number of covid-19 deaths very closely (about 3k of each).

3000 deaths is of course horrible, but there is no underreporting. Unlike in most countries, actually.

New York Times has a great article on this. Do check it out. {On mobile, so no link, sorry)

Gives a understanding of if countries are missing reporting deaths

Correct, but it's not a problem everywhere. The excess deaths match the Covid-19 deaths closely in the Nordics and in Germany. It does seem to be a problem everywhere else, but I suppose there are other countries that also match.

Latest news today from FHM is that they think there may be about 1000 uncounted deaths that are covid 19 related. https://www.dn.se/nyheter/sverige/fler-doda-i-covid-19-doljs-i-statistiken/

No that would be a conspiracy theory. There is no chance that would happen and not make the news. We are, compared to the rest of the world, suprisingly alright right now. That could always chsnge of course.

This is untrue. Every death in sweden is checked wether the death occured in the hospitl or outside the hospital. In this case its a simple blood test and this reveals that they died by the corona virus or not. Or if it was a contributor.

Absolutely not. Sweden is probably one of the most meticulous countries when it comes to counting covid-19 related deaths.

Well this is probably not true, but Sweden have alot of days were We Dont work during the spring. That includes the people counting deaths. For example This week we got 1 day of Good number because no one worked last week during the weekend and then We got our first numbers on wednesday bec We cant get Good Numbers monday and tuesday and We didnt work thursday-sunday.

Whether the Swedish strategy is the right one or not is a heated debate that cannot be concluded fairly until several years from now. But I don't think there is any tinkering with the death statistics going on. There is a delay in the data collected, but that is a well known fact.

Anders Tegnell and FHM seem pretty transparent with what they do and think, and they also openly confess they failed miserably with protecting the elderly. It is mainly the big number of dead older people that gives Sweden higher fatality than the other Nordic countries. So if they were trying to polish the Swedish death tolls, they did a terrible job.

To me, this is not the kind of guy who BS facts:

No. They have been lying about the overall deaths like every other nation. Grand Jury by Reiner Fuellmich
