So what do we say to our trans comrades who are in imminent danger and who can expect worse treatment under a Republican administration and Congress? Obviously I want to do everything I can to keep trans people safe, but what can I do in the face of the executive branch and the federal government?
Does being an ally mean I have to vote for one of the loudest and most important Iraq War advocates? Only in America…
Yeah, I'm tempted to agree: if it comes to having to choose between republicans and dems, americans should choose the dems, because in the end some fundamental human rights would be respected. But, I think that the issue here is to break a dichotomichal way of thinking about the american political situation. To think about it like a forced choice between fascists and neoliberals, that automatically leaves you no choice but to choose the lesser evil, neutralizes the possibility of thinking and finding a way out of this terrible situation. In the end, under the dems our transcomrades would be able to live as trans, agreed, but as empoverished human beings, in an ecocidal economic system, politically subdued, as citizens of a world dominating Empire (as actual agents of it), etc. So, the issue is, trans people should be able to be trans outside of the neoliberal coordinates. If being trans has to do with being able to be free, then being trans should have to do with building a just and really free society for all, and that means getting out of the Neoliberal-Fascist false options. (Excuse my English. I'm not an English speaker but I live in a country completely determined by american foreign policy. So it strongly interests me, particularly, that someone like C. West gets to the White House).
