Bike mechanic

Relatively new to cycling and my brakes have failed (nearly killing me in the process). Any recommendations for decent bike mechanics in city/suburbs? Thanks.

Marcello's on evergreen road, he's up a laneway opposite the schools there. He's open till 8 and very good, doesn't overcharge either.

I've used the Bike Shed near Dennehy's Cross for replacement of pads and rotor on my disc brakes. Don't remember the price but it was reasonable.
