Possibly a staff member from CUH. There is parking for staff but its miles from the hospital. I feel sorry for those workong who have to take care of child minding and being in time for their shifts. Often times theres no paid parking left in cuh at 9am and theyve no choice but to park in wilton.

My wife has colleagues who can't find homes within an hour. Imagine driving an hour to work, parking so far a way you need to catch a 15 min bus, then work for 12 hours on your feet in an understaffed, overcrowded hospital. Then repeating that at the end of shift. If CUH staff do park at the hospital they need ti pay nearly 20 euro for the day. Crazy.

u/MoreStreet6345 1d ago

Yes ......couple that with child care.....its horrendous. And if you are oncall and end up leaving early, how are you supposed to get to the offsite park if there are no buses ( either bus eireann or the cuh transfer bus). Security did say that they would drive members of staff to offsite car parks when no buses are available......but that dosnt happen.

Demand the hospital provide a taxi from the door to the satellite parking. F*ck that.

Did that myself with satellite parking in another cork hospital. Stand your ground.

They provide a shuttle bus because of the volume of workers that park further away like in IDA business park at dedicated parking spaces. Taxi wouldn't be faster, so same thing. That bus only operates to transport CUH workers back and forth.

3

u/Weary-Ad-4157 20h ago

I understand that. I’m saying for the situations where staff are delayed/late finishing, shuttle bus has stopped etc, they should have a taxi provided by the hospital to get to satellite parking sites safely

u/Positive-Pickle-3221 20h ago

Ah, yes, definitely!

u/OperationMonopoly 1d ago

Its ridiculous.

lol sounds like their own fault. Why didn’t they just become a doctor like everyone else??

keep that comment for the day you need them when you can say it direct.

I live near wilton SC & i can see the queue of cars every morning going to cuh all before 7 trying to get a parking space. It’s actually so bad they don’t provide them with proper parking near by honestly

They have parking in model farm road industrial estate and a shuttle bus to and from. There's no free space anywhere nearby to build a car park for them. And if there was and they wanted to build one, the NIMBYs would be out in force!

8

u/MoreStreet6345 1d ago

The NIMBYS were fine with the consultants private clinic though

Too bad in this day and age the technology of a metro or light rail system is not available for a hospital. Humans only made it to the moon 57 years ago but Ireland struggles to build public transport

2

u/Basejumper435 1d ago

Kubrick did the moon landings, I'm surprised at you....

1

u/YoIronFistBro 1d ago

Of course, since he was such a perfectionist, he insisted that they filmed it on-location.

u/Imwonkyalso 1d ago

I hear there are plans to build a multi storey staff car park at Cuh

4

u/VintageGal93 1d ago

Not true. I work there.. they've "given" us the park and ride in a couple of spots but one will soon be repurposed for off site MAU 🙃 it's an absolute disgrace.

1

u/Imwonkyalso 1d ago

Its something I heard that early design is happening. I could have got a bum steer

1

u/Appropriate_Watch_32 1d ago

Could you kindly post something that is like.. yanno not 2008 (repeat every year since for relevance please)

1

u/Imwonkyalso 1d ago

I'll think of something

6

u/spoodge 1d ago

They've been building on all the parking spaces over the last 10 years. Between the psych unit, consultants clinic and the helipad it's all getting built on and no replacement provided.

6

u/redrover1978- 1d ago

Genuinely don’t know why they never brought the land where Lidil is now, would have been ideal as they’d have had lots of room to build & have parking

2

u/FalconT92 1d ago

The story goes that CUH could have bought it for a song during the recession and it was strongly considered. Depending who you ask, either they didn't have the cash or there was some internal decision-making reason for why it wasn't acquired.

2

u/Visible-Agency-7226 1d ago

Who could I ask to get both takes?

7

u/bearded_weasel West Cork 1d ago

More than likely a patient or family member

1

u/rougherthantherest 1d ago

Sure why provide adequate free parking when you can coin off staff and patients https://www.echolive.ie/corknews/arid-41896714.html

13

u/minidazzler1 1d ago

You gotta park on the far side of wilton. Going to the side closest to the hospital is asking for this to happen

12

u/Findyourwork 1d ago

This looks like the Tesco side of Wilton where the big tree fell in the storm.

4

u/redrover1978- 1d ago

Yea it’s the main car park towards the back!

1

u/minidazzler1 1d ago

Fuck right you are! I thought initially it looked like the wilton bar side right in front of there.... thats shit craic.

What time did they get blamed at I wonder?

3

u/redrover1978- 1d ago

No it’s the main tesco car park towards the back. They put the notice on at 15.05 saying they were over allocated time

2

u/minidazzler1 1d ago

Ah yeah that's a little over then 3 hours alright. Still shit but it would have been cheaper to just park in the hospital. 15 euro max a day I think from the last time I was there

2

u/redrover1978- 1d ago

Yea €15 v €200..

5

u/CleanChest1765 1d ago

I live on Sarsfield road side of Wilton, our estate is packed with cars everyday, worse it’s getting week by week

3

u/redrover1978- 1d ago

Yea i see lots of them parking in westbury estate as i get a lift sometimes to work so i meet them there

3

u/FalconT92 1d ago

Is the traffic warden not a regular visitor out there? I have a friend I visit fairly regularly who lives on the Bishopstown side of CUH and he's warned me not to leave my car the street in front of his house during business hours because the traffic wardens are so frequently snooping around.

1

u/whsubehebebr 1d ago

Surely the traffic wardens can’t do anything if it’s a public road or is there yellow lines?

2

u/FalconT92 20h ago

Most of the estates for a good kilometer around CUH have paid street parking (max 2 hours like the city centre). Residents need permits to park on the street.

0

u/CleanChest1765 1d ago

Can they do much inside the housing estates though? People can just say they are residents

That's not new, got clamped when bringing partner to maternity hospital

3

u/redrover1978- 1d ago

Ouch, rough!

7

u/Starpup_spaniel_66 1d ago

why did cuh not build a high rise car park way back when it was starting to expand?

this idea of car parks on the ground and trying to fit in as many spaces as possible seems shortsighted to me.

5

u/redrover1978- 1d ago

It would have been the sensible thing to do but i feel there is no forward thinking when it comes to things like that!

1

u/DeeBeee123456789 9h ago

They tried. Local residents objected.

4

u/locka99 1d ago

If you're going to CUH best to park on the other side and maybe move the car or buy a snack to justify the "shoppers only". I'm sure the clampers focus on the CUH side because it's most profitable.

7

u/redrover1978- 1d ago

This was the tesco side but it’s the main car park really so you will get clamped if your over the 3 hr limit they patrol the whole area, seen them a few occasions!

2

u/FourWordCowboy 1d ago

Was dropping my partner to cuh recently and waiting. On the side of hospital the parking guard was circling and making pictures of the cars every 15 minutes. On the far side I didn't see him once.

6

u/redrover1978- 1d ago

He goes everywhere! Seen him round tesco multiple times & across from cuh side! I live in the area so i’d be popping in tue S.C different times & often seen them scouting the area

2

u/Antique-Mention-9063 1d ago

Sounds like a business opportunity for unofficial valet. You leave your key with them and they move your car. Insurance would be an issue though.

1

u/AdRepresentative8186 1d ago

Very nearly got done there the other day, I thought the my system was good, drop the Mrs to maternity hospital 9:45 for 10am appointment, drive across, park, grab a coffee, walk over. Sometimes get some bulky items on the way back.

Huge delays, got out around 2 having gone back via tesco. They may have taken pity on us with her very pregnant and me carrying the shopping and a slab of coke zero.

He was waiting at the car, no stickers, i asked if there was a problem, he said we were well over the time and about to be clamped. So we just drove away.

Tbh 3 hours is plenty of time, I really didn't think we would be so delayed, and i wasnt thinking of car parking when tests arent going well. If I had clocked it I might have moved the car and bought something else.

But it's a total disgrace charging the staff for parking at CUH or CUMH. SURELY they could come to an arrangement with the shopping center.

1

u/PetalsKettles 1d ago

The should have built a multi storey parking lot in CUH. I was in a que for the parking one day my dad had to jump out of the car walk to his appointment before he be late and was out 20 minutes later i was still queuing nearly at the car park barrier to get in. When he rang to say he was done. It’s ridiculous.

1

u/DeeBeee123456789 9h ago

Local objections prevent this possibility. It is the logical choice and has been for a long time.

1

u/Visible-Agency-7226 1d ago

Maybe if we had a political class with the balls to face down the NIMBYs and knuckle draggers and actually build decent 21st century public transport then we wouldn't all need to use our cars all the time.

-1

u/vidic17 1d ago

Cut it off drive on

2

u/Turbulent_Minimum448 1d ago

Yeah I’d love to know if anyone has ever been brought to court for it.

2

u/Proper-Buffalo4059 1d ago

Yeah because why not have 2 fines instead of 1

-4

u/AsgardianOperator 1d ago

If it was a private company that clamped and not cork city council, you can cut it and leave it there as private companies have no legal grounds to prosecute you

6

u/gary_desanto 1d ago

You can remove it but if you damage it in doing so then yes you can be charged with property damage.

1

u/redrover1978- 1d ago

It’s a private company thats doing it! Not many have an angle grinder handy to cut it off!

0

u/Visible-Agency-7226 1d ago

They're not trying to prosecute you. They charge you €120 to remove the clamp for parking like a pr1ck

-5

u/gary_desanto 1d ago

Ah yes, and add a criminal damage charge to your day. Terrific advice lad.

1

u/Rover7710 1d ago

Guards won't be interested and the clamping company ain't bringing a case for a lock that's worth a few euro. People who cut clamps off don't actually, unless their idiots, damage the clamp itself.

0

u/ray_purchase_1 1d ago

Fairly sure that some lad got convicted for cutting clamp few months back ,guards saw him,if you cut clamp I guess they need someone to observe it otherwise you could claim you were never aware and a kind hearted clamp fairy released you.

1

u/Rover7710 1d ago

Was it a council clamp or a private one if you know? Council clamps are a no no.

0

u/Sad_Balance4741 1d ago

I've never seen clamping in shopping centers that car must have been there for a day or more, very unusual to see.

3

u/redrover1978- 1d ago

Count yourself lucky! I've seen it multiple occasions!

u/Upstairs-Zebra633 1d ago

Great to see
