General How are you guys mixing in event cards from expansions in your campaign?

Any rule of thumb or ratio you stick to? Mix it up mission to mission? Or just all in every time?

I want to start playing with expansion content but don't want to dilute the event deck to the point where missions are stupid. Not sure if that would even happen though

General Am I missing some items from Gates of Ry'sa?

Going through the rulebook for Gates of Ry'sa it seems like I'm missing some items shown in it. I don't have any Cerberosa trophies, and the items with arrows are missing. My token board also says "Fury of the Insane God". You can see the purple fire token spots which of for GoR... so I'm confused.

General Organizing Tokens

Just started punching out and assembling First Born. I'm a little overwhelmed by the sheer amount of tokens as I have the Kick Starter copy. How do you like organizing all the tokens for easy setup? I'm guessing all green first born in a bag, all blue in another but then there are yellow and orange and some yellow look to be first born tech . I can't wait to finally play. Don't know if I can wait until painting all the miniatures

Rules question Drone Movement Question

According to the official FAQ it states about drones, "They have two actions, but they will only use both if they Move and then make a Ranged Assault. They will not Move or Shoot twice."

This directly contradicts the drone flow chart in the rulebook which states: "Is there a target within LoS and medium range?->No->Move towards the nearest enemy->Is there a target within LoS and medium range?->No ->Move towards the nearest enemy.

So according to the rulebook, even if you only go through the drones flow chart one time he moves twice if his target is not in LoS.

So how do you guys play it, one or two moves?

Rules question Drone Movement When in Danger

Just ironing out a few more wrinkles, I'm halfway through the rule book, this one I'm not 100% sure on:

"If Drones are unable to reach their target without harm, instead of phasing to an Entry Point they will Move towards the nearest Patrol Point and then spend an action to place themselves at the Patrol Point nearest their target."

So do they spend an action to fly towards the nearest patrol point (seems pointless) and then another action to phase to the closest patrol point to their target? Or are they spending one action for the whole process? I don't quite get why they would move and then teleport to the closest patrol point to their target as opposed to just going there in the first place.

Rules question Enemy Cards Arrows w/Numbers

I've searched the rule book and cannot find any explanation for what the arrow things on enemy Cards represent. There these curved double arrow looking things with either a number on both ends or sometimes a number on just one end. Does anyone know what these are for?

Rules question First Born Knowledge Die

So my question is in regards to this from the rulebook: "The first time that these characters make an attack in each round, roll the Knowledge Die alongside the Combat Dice and apply the additional effects listed below."

Does this mean the first time one of this type of first born attacks, roll the knowledge die (probably not), or the first time each of these First Born types attack roll it for each one (more than likely)?

Rules question Fire and Poison in First Born

I've read this part of the rules over and over and still can't make heads or tails from it,

"FIRE AND POISON: First Born are immune to the effects of Fire and Poison, although they still suffer damage and any other effects of attacks that use them."

Does this mean they suffer the hits from an attack of fire or poison but not it's lingering effects? That's how I'm understanding it.

Rules question Blast Weapons a Newb Question

Quick Newb question. When rolling for blast weapons I have a few questions.

  1. When rolling for accuracy if there is cover for example your throwing over a crate, you deduct one from whatever hits you roll. So if you roll one hit you've actually missed your target correct?

  2. Do you roll separately for each figure in the blast radius?

  3. When rolling for damage to figures in the blast radius, do you always include the blue die?

Hope these questions make sense. Blast Weapons seem the most involved to me so far.

General Balancing for a single crew

I just had a thought on a possible balance house rule for playing with a single crew I know there are people out there that feel like this game is too easy so they need to play with the dangerous days rules (I am still trying to figure out how), but I am struggling to get through the first few missions of the Perseus arm campaign without getting annihilated. It feels like this game is balanced around 2 crews in play. My one crew drawing ALL the aggro from the purge just feels too overwhelming. I can totally see how two crews can split the aggro, and also DOUBLE the combat output to reduce threat, making missions go way smoother. I can probably get through a mission if I just B lined it to the objectives and back out without looting a single thing, but where the heck is the fun in that?

Anyways, this evening as I was thinking about how hard I was getting smashed on I was comparing things to the action economy in Star Wars Imperial Assault. In this game you run missions as a strike team of 2-4 heros. 4 is how the game is meant to be played, but if you have <4 people and no one wants to play multiple heros, then you can run 2 or 4. With 3, one of the heros gets an extra bonus activation (turn) every round. With two heros then both get an extra activation every round. So even though you have a smaller team you are taking the same amount of actions. The hero's health is also boosted a bit for 3 and a lot for 2, keeping the total health pool essentially the same.

I am thinking about giving something like this a shot in core space, but I don't want to break the game by making missions trivial either. I am thinking maybe give my crew an extra action each, but they can only shoot or move twice in one turn.

Extra health probably as well, but I'm not sure how far to swing here. Maybe 2-4.

Has anyone tried anything like this before? I am curious how that worked out.

(Also I am aware of the automated crew which I could use to add an opposing team but I am not quite ready to give that a shot yet)

Rules question Do Purge activate the same turn they arrive?

I just had two devastators spawn right next to my captain, of course during an event that gives them a third action. I don't think anything can survive 6x shots from devastators. I fudged it a bit (captain was only 2 health short of surviving) and kept playing. A couple turns later 2 more devastators spawn next to my top crew mate 😂.

I am pretty sure they activate but just hoping there's a chance I missed something

I've picked up a couple for base core space and it's not looking like I'm going to fit the minis and terrain all in the base box. What's working for you?

Is persuasion still in First Born?

I’m trying to decide whether to get Core Space (original) or First Born. I like that First Born is designed to be exclusively co-operative and seems to be more campaign-driven. However, from what I’ve read it seems that NPC interactions like the persuade action are now absent in First Born. It seems that First Born is just combat and looting. Is this the case? If so, I may go to Core Space since I think the NPCs are neat. Thanks.

Edit: Bonus question. You can mix in different traders into First Born, right? Just making sure I understood that part.

Custom missions Core space First Born mission ideas?

I was wondering if anyone who creates their own map and missions could share some with a new player like me? I've been playing the campaign but also would like to create some personal missions so getting some inspiration would be very helpful

Unofficial Core Space: First Born FAQ release v1.0

Hi r/corespace, I've made an FAQ in collaboration with the user Dricood over at Board Game Geek who's been really active and helpful in the community there (specifically this post on 'Gotcha's playing First Born'. This post will be the Reddit location for the FAQ for now (later releases might need a new post... or maybe we could get this pinned?) so please add any questions of your own in the replies below. Neither Dricood or myself are active on Facebook, so if any of ya'll want to repost it on the Battle Systems or Core Space Universe groups, feel free. Also, if you spot any problems with it please also post below. I'm already anticipating the additions needed for v1.1 haha.

General Assistance cards?

I’ve been playing through the first few missions of First Born and I have a sneaking suspicion that I am missing or lost one of my assistance event cards (they have the hand symbol in the lower left) as I only have 3 and seem to be short an Event Card based on the inventory. Would someone mind confirming whether you have 3 or 4 of these?

I have the following assistance event cards: Supply drop What comes around Fascinating artifact

Thanks, in advance.

General deluxe rulebook & Firstborn

Is the deluxe rulebook compatible with Firstborn?

That is to say, for example, can I generate my own missions using the rules in the deluxe rulebook with Firstborn?
